listen,,,, nothing bothers me more than posts that have Eowyn wear the pants in their relationship and depict Faramir as incredibly feminine, moreso than Eowyn herself
this is genuinely one of the few relationships I’ve seen in fiction where both characters are grave, noble, understanding of eachother and perfectly equal in every way but Tumblr literally can’t handle any heteros where the gender roles aren’t complete reversed so the canon actually feminist depiction of their relationship is thrown out to make jokes about like…. how Eowyn has to bridal carry Faramir when he’s scared of a mouse

it’s just hard not to think about the fact that in 1915, JRR Tolkien went to war not with but certainly in the same army and many of the same battles as his 3 best school friends, all nicely upper class young men who had never known much loss, and only he and one other came back alive - and a couple decades later, he wrote a book in which 3 nicely upper class young men (and one very excellent gardener) who have never known much loss go to war together, or at least they start out together, and they all come home alive. (Though one cannot bear it, and does not stay.)

So anyway Christopher Tolkien literally took 70 boxes of his father’s disorganised notes and spent his whole life turning them into something that could be read, appreciated, studied and loved. Words can’t express how much this man did for everyone to whom Tolkien’s work means something…thank you so much, Christopher. Safe journey to the white shores under a swift sunrise.

middle-earth meme ☆ 4/5 families ☆ the mariner’s family
Thus it is, Ancalimë, and we cannot alter it. For men fashioned Númenor: men, those heroes of old that they sing of; of their women we hear less, save that they wept when their men were slain. Númenor was to be a rest after war. But if they were weary of rest and the plays of peace, soon they will go back to their great play, manslaying and war. Thus it is; and we are set here among them. But we need not assent. If we love Númenor also, let us enjoy it before they ruin it. We also are daughters of the great, and we have wills and courage of our own. Therefore do not bend, Ancalimë. Once bend a little, and they will bend you further until you are bowed down. Sink your roots into the rock, and face the wind, though it blow away all your leaves.

“...where the sorcery of Sauron and the power of Melian came together, and horror and madness walked”
I really like the idea of this area where the power of the two Maiar meet just being so ridiculously charged with magic that it warps reality a little and can't really be handled by any of the Children
