ok LOL i dont mind just telling you- it's a very frequently asked question. so the writers answer is that i was 17, i liked that dees was seed backwards, thought it was a fun nickname for what his full name actually is, and deez nuts wasnt a meme yet. when it HAD became a meme, i stubbornly refused to change it. "memes are fleeting," i smartly and wisely thought 10 years ago with no prefrontal cortex to speak of, "it probably wont even be a meme for more than a few months". so anyways deez nuts ended up being a meme for more than a few months

the comic answer that i'll keep vague (we are maybe 8 years away from the dees chapter that i am so fucking excited to make) is that his name is actually desmond: without saying too much, "someone" kept accidentally calling him the wrong name over and over much to his personal annoyance. he simply had no choice for awhile. but that's all i'll say! hope it satiates for now

if i were to remake the comic (which i once tried to do but quickly realized that it is impossible. there's like a million pages and all), i would probably change the name dees to something less distractingly close to a meme lol. thanks for askin!

hey thank you for this sweet ask..! i think i say it a lot but i'm genuinely always (happily) surprised to see other people connect with my work at all... to me it often all feels too personal and self indulgent and inconsistent to truly resonate with an audience, and i'm grateful for the reminder that that is not necessarily always the case.

ever since you sent this ask in i've been chewing slowly on the phrase "accomplished creator" in my brain, bc it surprised me so much. i don't think i've ever thought of myself as accomplished (not that that's a bad thing at all! i've just never considered what i do to be what one would typically regard as successful or masterful or anything. again, not that that's a bad thing. i think as long as you are always meeting yourself at the threshold of your own passion then that's always successful enough). but as i chew, i do really appreciate your kind words..! its very sweet that you felt so strongly about my art and stories and work that you felt the need to tell me, and asks like this always make me smile. and like i said: i'm generally always blown away to hear that my work has had any positive impact at all on anyone, and grateful that it resonated with you.

hi! i just finished (another) reread of stbu and wanted to say that its one of my favorite comics, ive been reading it basically from the beginning and the characters and worldbuilding rule, and your art style is awesome!

i also was wondering if theres any particular inspirations/influences that go into it, worldbuilding or otherwise?

HI THANK YOU !!! very very sweet, thank you! i actually answered your question in this post right here that you can check out at your leisure.... hilariously i was going to start off answering this ask with a long apologetic paragraph about how long it takes me to answer asks, but as it turns out that i don't need to do that. because i did that in the linked post already! LOL!!

i will add a special little something to that list though, just for fun. a lot of the impetus for soil that binds us was definitely unbridled teenage passion for the characters that live in my brain, it's true. 70 percent i think was just sheer willpower and the joy of creation. but i think i'm old and brave enough to say that it was also an extremely effective funnel for an attempt to process many many genuine experiences with the supernatural that i've had (and continue to have). crumb of tess lore for you. but just a crumb!

so if you're looking for a little extra inspiration i cant recommend enough directly experiencing the vastness of what lurks within the immaterial plane. preferably in an intimate and life altering way. i hope that helps!!

orchard corsets!!! they're very well made and have a lot of tutorials and tips for beginners...... i still love my corset very much and fully recommend it if you have the patience to learn how it works and to break it in. good luck!!!!
