Though I love math, I am tired of numbers sometimes. The numbers that say my worth, The numbers that define my sincerity. People around me have put me on a number, A scale from one to ten. Suddenly, my worth is out of a hundred, And my intelligence is on a scale. Though I love math, I hate numbers sometimes, And I wish I was more than the numbers said. Because even infinity starts somewhere, But I always end in a digit— And the rest of me remains unread.

About Steel and the duality of yelling at her subordinates, openly degrading the guildmage, but then seconds later playing a good lap dog to the Emperor?! Agreeing to be glorified entertainment at a rich kid‘s birthday party… it’s giving mid level manager.

(Still love her and I will die on this hill, okay…!) 🙃

Meanwhile the blood in her veins is looking for something to kill her with. What is it looking for? Her heart? Her true name? The audacity?

Oh, and let’s talk about how Steel, like every mother ever, knows exactly what to say to Suvi to deliver maximum emotional damage.

And Suvi, oh my god, I could write essays about her ever evolving relationship to Steel, perfection, loyalty, family, love. Fortunately, Aabria (@quiddie) has been doing that for me since the beginning of this story, and made sure Suvi remains my favorite character of all time. Ever.

I‘ve been waiting for this reunion since Arc 2 and GOD IS IT WORTH IT!!!

Gina is an absolute MARVEL (and we knew that) but y’all really need to give it up for how hard a road she’s walking with Jade. It is SO DIFFICULT to play a character that is deeply new to the world in a way where the naivety and lack of understanding never encroach on the fundamental personhood of the character. It’s so easy to fall into a cartoonish “born sexy yesterday” pattern with characters that - on top of having to navigate believable intraparty cohesion (why does anyone care about this adult baby in the mix?) and the complex backstory reasons justifying these unique circumstances - must now contend with pulling their weight advancing the narrative while simultaneously navigating the limits of their own origins at every turn. What do they know? What is new and exciting? What is new but scary? And in what ways is their inexperience counterbalanced by some other kind of intelligence or ability?

There is SO MUCH happening under Jade’s hood all the time, and Gina makes it look effortless. She is earnest and menacing and wise and risky all at the same time and it makes sense. I love OP’s use of “inevitable” to describe her, because it’s exactly right; your jaw drops seeing Jade conceptually on paper, but then you watch Gina’s performance and can only think “Oh, of course. How could she be anything other than this?” Masterful.

Gina DeVivo is a wonder. Every line of dialogue she says as Jade surprises me and yet feels inevitable.

Jade is a crazy combination of understanding and ignorance and its fun and scary and sad and hopeful.

I'm obsessed.
