🕯 ❚❙❘ She took the old cup from the table, inwardly making remarks of disappointment at how the drink was now wasted. But that was at no fault at the victim of course, who seemed to have similar feelings on the situation.

     ❝ What type of milk would you like? ❞ Giving a small nod at the request, Chico maneuvered behind the counter getting the tea ready. ❝ And feel free to pick a pastry, on the house. ❞ While it wasn't her fault the original order was ruined, it still seemed like something extra was needed.

The sigh that escaped her came from the very depths of her soul. She usually made her own tea at home and thus did not typically rely on the café, but when she had left her room where she had been flipping through magazines, enjoying a lazy early day, she had had to realise---to her shock and great dismay---that she had run out of her usual before-noon blend. It was a blend the café also sold so she had figured that she could just grab a cup there on her way to the tea store, but alas---fate had seen it fit to foil her tea acquisition plans twice in a row. And that, more than anything else, was the cause of her rather dramatic sigh.

"You know," she said as she rubbed the side of her face. "I think I'll give up on my previous order. Could I trouble you for a tea latte?"

༄ ❚❙❘ Rayne has a rather small part in the main story of Fairy Tail // Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest. She is seen quite often in the background, and compared to other guild members is shown fighting more often. It helps she is related to one of the main supporting cast, that added to her dragon slaying major makes her more relevant.

Ideally, Team Sound Waves would have their own Gaiden like Gajeel, Laxus, and saber tooth did. Following the two as they get mixed up with an accidental adventure in the black market aka the fanfic I want to write but keep putting off. That would be the only time Rayne would have an arc that focuses on her, rather than just the few chapters she otherwise gets in the main plot.

♫ ❚❙❘ There are two types of otp edits when it comes to Olexa and the ships surrounding her ( a debate for another time ) . Firstly, the more obvious, songs people associate with the ship. More Than Friend by Isabel LaRosa and I Wanna Be Yours by Arctic Monkeys showcase a slow burning friends to lovers trope that suits most of the ships associated with her. Are the songs perhaps a bit too pinning for the shy musician? Yes but that is the fun of making edits.

  The second type of songs are ones fans believe Olexa would write for her loved one. A lot of these consist of violin covers of other songs. From the Start by Laufey ( and other songs by Laufey honestly ) . People really link her music style to what they believe Olexa would write, which isn't too far off.

  There is a combination of the two. My love Mine All Mine by Mitski is a popular example of this. It is soft and slow, it suits the dynamics Olexa's ships display. While also hinting at what people view as her POV. The song puts the loved one on a pedestal, it's humbling to the singer, yet also an intense confession.

  Honorable mention: I'm Yours by Isabel LaRosa. The entire song might not suit the vibe of Olexa's ships, however TikToks are short. The lines " nervous trip over my words // you're so pretty it hurts // baby I'm yours " would be used often in these quick edits.

Is it drama or is a debate? Her introduction overshadowed the fandom tag that chapter release. Her character was received in two different ways. First, a group of Juvia fans who were excited to finally get a more in depth look at her backstory via Rayne. And second, the group who thought the long lost sister trope was a cliche.

  When the backstory between the two sisters was released, it split remained. Many people rolled there eyes at another sibling pair split due to the tower of heaven supporter raids. ( Angel and Yukino, Simon and Kagura, Richard and Wally ) . However Mashima is know for being repetitive at this point. To his credit, as overused as the framework was, the detailed still differed enough that many people enjoyed it.

  Up until then, Rayne was a plot device. The fans were happy she was doing her own thing in the guild, not sticking to Juvia, and the fact that she was purposefully weak to further explain her sister's strength was celebrated. In reality, that fact was meant to allude to her own growth, as some tried to theorize, but it was mostly ignored.

  Until 100 Year Quest came out and suddenly, Rayne had changed. She was still a side character, but now one with second generation dragon slaying sea magic. Once again, the fandom was at an uproar. The idea that she was becoming " her sister copy, but stronger now " floated around. She was accused of lacking originality and her own growth. It was an oversimplification of her character, viewing her to be motivated by imitation rather than admiration.

  Mary Sue, a common term given to any female in fiction deemed overpowered or sometimes just annoying. Most fans point out Rayne is shown to be struggling with her new powers, and no where near the level of the others she now shares this magic with. But to others, the fact that she went through such an upgrade is enough to give her the label. Only one thing is for sure when it comes to her, if Rayne Lockser is featured in a chapter it is used as ammunition for both sides of the debate.

A theory that is played off by the majority at first. She, who blends into the background, can't possible pose a threat to Fairy Tail. After all, her introduction she radiated the " I am just happy to be here " energy. She admitted as much in fact. The little bit that is known of her backstory states she grew up in Magnolia admiring the guild and the way everyone was treated as family. How could she possibly turn on those she spent so long yearning for?

  But then the user defends their stance with something else that was shown in her introduction. One simple line whispered from the master to Mira as he approved Olexa's membership. ❝ That child has an intense amount of magic... I wonder where that will lead her. ❞ Undoubtably meant as foreshadowing. But which direction? At the time it was thought that she would play a key part in an up coming arc. Yet, that never came up. Instead we see her moving in the background. Mentions of her activity, never to be properly spotlighted.

  Then the war happens. Her first appearance she is shown to be scarred, irritable, some would say aggressive. Rayne, her teammate, comes out with dragon slaying magic and admits it was only possible due to connections Olexa had in the black market. Posts start popping up talking about the theory again. What could a timid girl who specializes in music magic be doing at the black market? The answers come the next time she is shown, a short battle spanning a couple panels, where she is seen using her " lullaby " flute.

  Olexa copied a spell from Zeref. It was non lethal, but that didn't stop the fandom from dissecting that action. She is no longer someone they view as an adorable side character who likes to tinker. Any mention of team sound waves, is turned to build off their theory. Is Rayne in on it? What happened to her arm? Is it why her personality shifted?

     When will she finally snap?

  It is a theory that betrays part of her character, but also explores the parts the main story can only hint at. As happens with all side characters, headcanons are all people have sometimes, it bleeds into the fandom and suddenly, that is the character. Olexa Holl, Composer of Spells, and a ticking time bomb everyone is watching, waiting to explode.

🕯 ❚❙❘ She was no stranger to heavy accessories and clothing. Chico's fashion was fun, outgoing, dark, and sometimes clunky. These boots wouldn't fall out of what she would normally have in her closet. Yet, there was still a bit of hesitation as she turned the item over in her hands. Examining it, feeling it, weighing it. Something meant for battle was much different than the more modern styles mimicking it.

     ❝Do you really think so?❞ Erza's words sent a small wave of reassurance. Not that the ghost mage wasn't confident in herself already. But there was something nice hearing it from the queen of fairies herself. A tiny ego boost one could say.

  It helped that her invisible "friend" seemed to walk off pleased. Odd behavior from him considering how he was her most aggressive ghost under contract. Buying these shoes could be a strategic step in convincing him to lend her more power in the future.

     ❝How much are they though?❞ A real since of armor couldn't be cheap, and Chico ran off of coffee house earnings. ❝Do you happen to get a discount?❞

Circumstances suchlike this were favoured by the stalwartness incarnated; on opportunity to strengthen nexus and amicability with her beloved comrades. Generosity was a connotation that would depict yours truly, in equivalence of gentle brushstrokes swirling around blank canvas dexterously, with elegance. The bestowal of unfortunate circumstance at constancy, with consequent calamity and grief following thereafter was a repetitive circumstance that would remain ceaseless as long as their respiratory system is still in function. Thence, she would take advantage of such opportunities presented, to spend her leisure time with those who wield the same insignia as she does.

For now, irises of a chocolate complexion would gaze at the accessories presented in her vision with evident marvel gracing valorous mien. The footwear in question had an appearance from ancient times, akin to medieval ones with particular engravings placed meticulously, offering a far more pleasing aesthetic to the eye. No wonder why this captured Chico's attention.

A brief pause took transpiration, as momentarily afterwards she would cease such abrupt quietude.

♫ ❚❙❘ Even he said, yet it didn't feel that way at all. The musician's body tensed at the touch of marker on her cheek. Logically she knew he was joking, yet his tone did not help reassure that thought. Freed was displaying a mischievous side Olexa never encountered before. Would it be past him to temporarily curse her? Considering he was friends with the person who dared her to do this in the first place, perhaps so.

     ❝Wh-which is it?❞ Hesitantly her eyes opened and tried to study him, taking the marker back before any more damage could be done.

Well, considering her speech was only as messed up as it normally was, it wasn't the first rune he mentioned. The girl turned around, took a few steps forward, and turned back towards him, ruling out the second. Now a bit of confused mixed with worried set in. The possibilities were endless with the types of spells he could cast. She would not be able to tell, but she still desired to check. Digging in her pocket, Olexa pulled out her MCL, using the screen's reflective surface to examine what rune he placed on her.

  ...or not a rune at all, but a simple smiley face.

  She stared at him again, this time feeling defeated and slighted. This was meant to be his payback yet why did it seem like she was the one getting messed with more? Really she should be glad he only teased rather than following through with the threats, but somehow she had a need for revenge against his mind games.

  The retaliation lasted just a few seconds. Enough, however, for her to quickly uncap the marker and swipe it across his nose. Then her bravery immediately ran out. So, Olexa promptly turned around to do the same.

  She sure was gratefully he didn't curse her into walking backwards now.

He continued to observe her closely, amused and curious, yet aware of the delicate nature of the moment. It wasn’t lost on him that she was allowing their proximity now (for she could certainly pull away and flee if she wished), and that it showed the growth in their budding bond. The last thing he wanted to do was reverse the progress they’d made. He valued her friendship after all.

Seeing her steal a look at him at the mention of a rune, a mischievous smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

“Perhaps one that will have you speak gibberish for the rest of the day?” he suggested, “Or walk backwards everywhere? That would be fun, don’t you think?”

He wouldn’t truly use a rune on her of course, and he hoped she realised or even simply sensed that there was no real intent behind his words, only teasing.

“Cute?” He raised an eyebrow at her apparent attempt at persuading him to have leniency. He tsked again at her, affecting a slight frown, “Cute is hardly befitting my image.”

Sighing, he added, “I’m afraid you’ve committed a grave offense…This calls for a powerful rune indeed.”

He gently turned her head, swiftly but lightly applying the marker to her cheek with a small design. Withdrawing his touch, he shifted back in his chair and held out the marker to her with a satisfied curve of his lips. “There, I think we’re even now.”

LOVE DAY

☂ ❚❙❘ To no one's surprise, Juvia loves love day. Expressing her love to those she holds affection for it a daily occurrence, but that doesn't mean she views Valentines day as any less special. There were times in her life she did not have anyone particularly close to share the day with, and seeing other couples and friends celebrate their love brought her a bit of peace. The day yearly reconfirms that true love, in many forms, exists. It is a very comforting thought.

Plus she enjoys any reason to make more chocolate.

༄ ❚❙❘ As a fantasy and romance reader, Valentines day is the closest thing to those grand gestures of love books always have. So, it is only natural that Rayne treat those in her close circle is a grand way. Unlike her sister, baking isn't her strong suit. Cooking, however, is. When she was a waitress the special courses were ones she always wanted to try. They were peak of a classy dinner (and knowing the prices, that was not an understatement). Emulating that experience is something she wants to do for her "Valentines".

For herself, she simply wants to be swept off her feet. However there are no current romantic targets for her to expect such a thing from.

have they had any memorable experiences with it? Good or bad?

♫ ❚❙❘ It is hard to pin point the exact feeling her experiences with the love day extracts from her. She supposed it brought her a bit of peace seeing her parents celebrate the holiday so intensely. When everyday was usually met with tension, it was a reminder that those two could still be happy. There is a bitterness to the realization though. The happy couple could only be such if they completely ignore the "problem" in their relationship, aka their daughter. So, Valentines day was one she spent in her room most years. Never wanting to get in the way and spoil the other's fun.

Now adays the girl tries to go out with friends and enjoy herself. Yet, she has a strong need to be alone as if she is still trying to not get in anyone's way. Instead of staying in her room, at least Olexa can be found at the city's park, playing her violin for those that would like to hear a love song.

has their family or childhood impacted their view of it?

✰ ❚❙❘ Even after her father became the strict business man she grew up knowing, from what she could remember he had always treated her mother with nothing but care and love. The few years before Layla's passing, Love day was full of sweetness. She would not go as far as to call it an extravagant or luxury display of affection, but rather those early memories were filled with simple warmth.

When it became just the two of them part of her wished they could have spent the day together. Just as many other holidays, however, that quality time was lost on something else. A shame, but that disappointment didn't translate into how she sees Valentines. Rather Lucy chooses to hold on to the fragments of the softer days filled with love.

would anything cause their view or feelings to change?

♢ ❚❙❘ There was a long period of time where the maker mage thought Valentines day was a fools holiday. There was no love in the environment she grew up in. A day for such a fickle feeling was something only weak people celebrated to comfort themselves. But then she left that place. And as Lilian started to experience the real world, it softened her view.

A lot can be credited to her guildmaster and the dog. If she is spending the day with them, even if they end up doing some ridiculous activity, it wouldn't be too bad.

how do they typically spend the day? Any special plans?

🕯 ❚❙❘ People watching. A hobby that can be boring on a normal day, but extraordinary on the day of love. Chico has to work regardless, so might as well pay attention to her costumers. There are usually four types: singles who who treat the day with some fun (like herself), bitter singles who hate the holiday, happy couples (not very entertaining), and couples who are on the last leg but trying not to act like it (the most interesting). It is fuel for her gossip sessions.

If she doesn't have a date in the evening, which tends to be the case most years, she will go home and curl up with a spicy book. Gotta have a little fun for herself.
