My wandering ramblings while quilting. I make quilts for friends, family & selfishly myself & my husband. He is my biggest fan, supporter, and financial backer. I think I am pretty awesome. I design a lot of quilts in my head, then use Illustrator to map them out and figure out the math for yardage. There are NO QUILT POLICE HERE. No mistakes, just happy accidents! Every quilt is a learning experience. Every quilt is love.

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Toddler-sized quilt for my niece's birthday last year. It's my second time using this pattern (made a larger version of this quilt that's since been given away, will have to track down some finished pics of it), and I'm seriously considering making a third.

This adorable table runner 13x24.5 inches, made using a grey swirly fabric with metallic strips of sparkles throughout it, and some bits of the charm pack called Hey Boo. I used the charm pack for another Halloween table runner.
This is 100% cotton and one of the quickest made table runners thus far. It was so much fun making this! The ghost print is adorable, and I loved playing with it.
8 hours x $27/hour + cost of materials = final price

I am actively making a thing for a friend!!

Just a simple throw blanket. I got fat quarters from the dollar tree, 10 of them, so they were about $13.30 including tax. It took me a couple hours because I was being picky about lining up the corners. I didn't cut them perfectly because I just wanted a simple project for the fun of it.
The border is going to be black or dark gray, I'll probably need to go in to Jo-Ann's to figure out exactly how much yardage I'll need for it. Thank goodness my mom's friend makes a lot of quilts, she gave me a good step-by-step for what I need to do next.
...and now I'm wishing I had swapped the orange pumpkins for the black pattered one so it'll look a little like a Minecraft geode. The little voice in my head saying I could still swap them is a liar.

Incorporating english paper pieced blocks in a largely foundation paper pieced design

Some shapes are a bad fit for foundation pieced designing. The chunky shapes I wanted for my gems were better accomplished with english paper piecing in 4 of my 7 swords.

I am not experienced at hand piecing, this was my second try ever. I hope to improve my stitching in the future, I’d like it to be more consistent in size and tension.

I found it hard to know how much smaller to make the gem patten, to account for the addition of slight bulk at the seams. I finally got it right on the last gem. (Also the easiest since it had the fewest seams to account for.)

FPP shapes only have Y seams where two FPP pattern pieces are being joined. For example, in the green gem the top group of 5 triangles and the bottom group of 3 triangles were separate pattern pieces.

I don’t think mixing techniques for this project distracts from the overall image, and I got the shapes I was looking for much more easily than if I had stuck to only FPP for the entire design.
10/10 will mix techniques again.

From October 31st to December 31st, I'll have TREATS23 active in my shop. Just put in the discount code and watch the price drop 25%. It applies only to items listed in my shop, not to commissions.
Help me clear out my shop (and put money in my wallet).
I have no intention of adding anything new to the shop, but if I do, the code will apply.
Here are a few listings, just to grab your interest.
Thank you! I look forward to having more space to put new things.

I had a weird year. My brother got cancer. I worked for several months as unexpected CEO. Our community took on large corporations to expand access to TB care. Weird.
But maybe the weirdest part of this very weird year: Rediscovering tumblr, and finding the experience lovely and funny and just altogether surprising.
So thanks for letting this unpaid intern hang around. I've got a simple pitch for you, and a thank you:
At http://good.store, we make awesome products--from soap to coffee to socks Hank designed during chemo--and then donate 100% of the profit to charities working to expand access to healthcare. This silly idea has raised over $6,000,000 in the last two years.
So as thanks for a surprisingly delightful time on tumblr this year, I want to offer you a 25% discount on anything at good store. Just click this link right here, or else use the code TUMBLRTHANKS at checkout We've got great gifts, great subscriptions, and much more. Code will be good until Monday. Thanks.

Just an FYI, cheap jelly rolls like you find at Joann Fabrics, Walmart, etc are not accurately cut. I've gotten a few and they're as much as 3" wide on parts of the strips. The stuff sold in quilt shops are accurately cut.
