friend of mine was sleeping whilst another friend and i were talking about nonsense. at some point we were talking about how trains honked anyway in the no horn zone that we had both lived in at one point. either without waking up, or waking up so briefly as to not disturb her sleep, our sleeping friend turned over to face us and solemnly intoned "Trains are required by federal law to sound the horn three times at a grade crossing". then she was gone again. we shook her gently- no response, out cold. she didn't remember it in the morning.

Imagine, as a human being, living under all this pressure and suffering, food, drink, displacement, and fear, and you do not have anything in your hands. Please, I am a mother with two children. I am not important. What is important is my children. You are needed. You can help me with anything. Please, I speak to you with your conscience and humanity. Everything has become more expensive than ever before, and we can barely get it because of the severe siege on us. My children have lost a lot of weight due to the lack of nutrition, and on top of all this, they have been deprived of their childhood. We no longer have a life. We could die at any time. At least your help can enable them to do what they need and to buy them what they want before anything bad happens. Do not be lenient. I know that you are fed up and bored, but at least you can help me and be a support to me and my children.

Bombs are still falling on Gaza, and the situation only worsens. Dina and her children have been living in these conditions for over a year. She deserves better, her children deserve better. Please help my friend, I don't want to see her family continue to suffer. It breaks my heart hearing the fear and danger they live in every day, and I only hear a fraction of what is their reality.

Please do your part. Don't just scroll past this post. You can make a difference for Dina and her family.

what's the price of a movie ticket in your area?

last week, i challenged you to "skip the takeout", inviting you to donate to a palestinian family instead. i also asked you to "skip the movie", but i was worried that wouldn't motivate you guys as much, because i wasn't sure people really went out to the movies anymore.

turns out they do!

so, i looked up my local theater, and a ticket for deadpool & wolverine is 13 dollars.

13 USD. less than 18 CAD. about 19 australian. under 12 euro and less than 10 quid. roughly 132 SEK.

deadpool & wolverine had a $200 MILLION production budget and a $100 million marketing budget. as of today, august 23, 2024, it has grossed over $1.154 BILLION. so, for disney, your $13 is a drop in the bucket.

but for a palestinian family hoping to escape the horrific conditions in occupied gaza? your $13 means a lot.

so this week, donate the price of a movie ticket to one of these families.
