I removed the scale from my bedroom this week. There's nothing helpful or healing to weighing myself every day. It creates an obsession with arbitrary numbers instead of an understanding of how I feel. This is the body I have. I only get one. I love fireworks. I do. But I don't love what they do to our natural world. To our pets. To our friends and family. Did you know silent fireworks are an option? One than many municipalities forego in favor of the loud booming gunshot-like sounds? Haven't posted in a full week. The anxiety of what to post next felt daunting. If I share something personal will it feel right? Too much? Will someone make an inappropriate comment? Will people talk about it with each other? Are people judging me? Should I just act like I haven't been thinking about what to post? Will it even get any likes or comments? Is it worth it? Should I even bother? Social media does this to us. It exhausts us. It makes us second guess and question everything. And all for what? So we can share a highlight reel? Share a story with our family and friends. Let people know we're okay even if we're far away? Build a following to sell whatever it is we're selling? I don't have the answers. I'm just here sharing my thoughts and hopefully someone needed to hear that they aren't alone in this way of thinking. And probably that someone is me. I used to be afraid of storms I used to hate being alone But last weekend, I was alone in an apartment, and I watched the storm roll in from my balcony. It took years of baby steps to be okay with storms. Gentle reframing over time. And I'm still not in love with being alone, and I don't care to ever be fully on my own. It's a constant learning experience to be comfortable with solo time. Two years ago, we were wandering around Ross Castle in Killarney National Park. As I scrolled through my Amazon photos memories of the day, I was reminded of what a gift it was to travel with Brian's family to Ireland.
