Alte Frau - Jean Etienne Liotard 1760
Depiction of a foot stove, a Kieke, as called in Northern Germany. A wooden box, open to one side and often with holes  at the top. In it, a bowl made of pottery or metal with burning charcoal was placed. Ancient ways to stay warm in winter without central heating or electricity.

Do some research on shelters and minimal space for living. Living with essentials, close to nature, not necessarily in an autarchic way, but with a responsible approach regarding the use of electricity and water.
The first part of exhibition looks at the history of Lloyd Kahn’s iconic California-based Shelter Publications through an immersive installation of photographs and stories that highlight the human need and drive to find and make shelter. A seated resource area will provide a reading space for visitors to explore in depth the many diverse stories featured in the Shelter books, taking them on journeys round the world, looking at different materials and building techniques, cultures and craftsmanship. | https://www.bothyproject.com/shelters/
