"A perfectionist, with both brush and a gun" - The Sharpshooter Anjum Moudgil India’s Medal quest- Tokyo Olympics 2021. 🇮🇳🥇 Sport: Shooting 🔫 Anjum started shooting when she was in grade 7. She was an NCC cadet, there she learnt her basics of shooting from NCC commander Colonel Chauhan. In 2010, she became part of the Indian Shooting team. She also is a great painter and her art is displayed in shooting clubs at Chandigarh, where she belongs from. She also often auctions her paintings to raise money for charities. Journey: She won a Silver Medal in World University Championship 2016 and then she took Gold in South Asian Games. In 2019, She won a silver medal in the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) event at the ISSF World Cup in Mexico. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) she secured the Silver Medal. In the 2021, ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, she secured a Silver in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions team event. Anjum would be making her Olympic debut, and would be hoping for a podium finish at Tokyo Olympics. "First Indian Woman to win a Gold at the World Shooting Championship" - The Veteran Shooter Tejaswini Sawant  India’s Medal quest- Tokyo Olympics 2021. 🇮🇳🥇 Sport: Shooting 🔫 Tejaswini Sawant is an Indian shooter who hails from Kolhapur in Maharashtra. She started shootings at the age of 13 in her village which had no proper facilities for the sport. However with all the limited opportunities and challenges, Tejaswini worked hard to excel in the sport. Journey: Her first notable achievement was clinching the Gold Medal at the South Asian Sports Federation Games in 2004. Consequently, at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She won two Gold medals in the 10m air rifle and 10m air rifle pairs categories. In 2010, she became the first Indian to win a Gold at the Shooting World Championships. She later won 2 Silver and a Bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi. In the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, she won a Gold and a Silver in the 50M Rifle 3 position and 50M Rifle Prone respectively. Although she has been in the sport for 2 decades now, this is the first time she has made it to the Olympics. She will be hoping to make it to the podium when she competes at Tokyo Olympics. "A journey from inspired to inspiring" The Eagle-Eyed Apurvi Chandela India’s Medal quest- Tokyo Olympics 2021. Sport: Shooting 🔫 Apurvi Chandela who is born and brought up in Jaipur and initially wanted to be a sports journalist but was inspired to become a shooter after watching Abhinav Bindra win gold for India in shooting at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She was also well supported by her father, Kuldeep Singh Chandela who is a hotelier and her uncle who was so impressed by her penchant for the rifle that he built her a shooting range in his backyard. Journey: She has won a Gold and a Bronze in a 10 m rifle shooting category at Commonwealth held at Glasgow and Gold coast in 2014 and 2018 respectively. She also has won a Bronze at the Asian Games held in Jakarta 2018. She has also won various medals at the ISSF World Cup held in 2015 and 2019. After having represented India at Rio Olympics, this is Apurvi's second appearance at the Olympics. She would be hoping to finish her second Olympic stint with a Medal. "A journey from PUB-G to Gold Medals" – The Golden prodigy of Indian shooting @divyanshsinghpanwar India’s Medal quest- Tokyo Olympics 2021. 🇮🇳🥇 Sport: Shooting 🔫 Divyansh started shooting at the age of 12, practising with his elder sister, Anjali's equipment at Jaipur. He was training under Kuldeep Sharma until he shifted base to Delhi in 2017. It is believed that because of his PUBG addiction his father, Ashok Panwar, sent him to the Karni Singh shooting range. It was then that he got a new rifle and a pair of shoes to train with. Journey: In 2018, Panwar won 2 gold medals at the ISSF World Cup held at Suhl in Men 10 m rifle and mixed events. He also won a bronze at ISSF world shooting championship held at Changwon held in the same year. In 2019, he won a gold medals at the ISSF world Cup held at Beijing & later won two Gold medals at at the World Cup Final event held at Putian. In the 2021 ISSF World Cup held in Delhi, he won a Gold medal in the Mixed team event and a Bronze medal in the individual category. Divyansh Panwar will be making his debut at the Olympics and would be hoping to make a podium finish at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. "World no.1 ranked shooter " - The Earnest @elavenil.valarivan India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport: Shooting 🔫 Elavenil comes from a family which was highly inclined towards education. Her father was a scientist who had a PhD from IIT Madras and her mother was a Principal in a college. She herself comes from a science background who later took up Arts in college. Shooting was introduced to her by her father’s friend’s daughter who was a shooter. She encouraged her to take up shooting and gave her a spare weapon to shoot, with that Elavenil took up the sport. Journey: 2018 was the turning point in Elavenil’s career, her hard work finally paid off when she won three gold medals at two ISSF Junior World Cup. Later in the same year, she won a silver medal at the senior level in ISSF World Championship at Changwon. Aiming for gold in her upcoming matches, Elavenil got her due when she won two gold medals at Rio and Putian in 2019. Maintaining her gold medal streak, she clinched one at the Asian Airgun Championship at Taoyuan. Elavenil Valarvian ranks World no 1 in Tokyo Olympics Ranking and ranked no. 12 in World rankings. A pride for the nation, Elavenil Valarivan would be hoping for a podium finish in her debut Olympics at Tokyo. "Youngest Indian Gold medalist at the Asian games" - The Marksman Saurabh Chaudhary India’s Medal quest- Tokyo Olympics 2021. 🇮🇳🥇 Sport: Shooting 🔫 Saurabh Chaudhary was born in Kalina village in Uttar Pradesh where his family’s main occupation was farming. He took up shooting at 13 and practised daily, travelling 15 km each way on buses to his club. Due to lack of facilities, he would often practice outdoors in the hard-hitting summers. Journey: In 2018, Chaudhary won a gold medal in Asian Games. He participated in the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Argentina and again won gold. He won three golds in the Asian Airgun Championship in the 10m air pistol competition, the team competition and in the mixed team 10m pistol In 2019, he won the gold medal at ISSF World Cup in Delhi. He also won a gold medal in the mixed event with Manu Bhaker at the IISF world championship held at Bejing. He won gold and broke the world and junior records in 10m pistol ISSF World Cup in Munich. Apart from these he also has many medals at the ISSF world cup won between 2019-21. Saurabh would be making his Olympic debut at Tokyo and is going to be a medal prospect for India. She comes from a family of wrestlers. Her father Dharamvir Malik, was an international wrestler himself and worked with the CISF. Her uncle Pawan is also a decorated wrestler. He was a SAFF Games Gold Medallist and a Haryana Kesari. At the age of 12, she saw her brother go for practice and joined him to begin her journey in wrestling. Journey: Anshu Malik has won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals in the World Cadet Championships from 2016- 2018 in the 60kg category. In 2019 in the Asian junior championship, she won a Gold medal in the 59-kg category. She won 2 golds and 1 bronze medal in the Asian Championship from 2020- 2021 in the 57 kg category. In 2020 she won a Silver medal at the Individual World cup event held at Belgrade. Anshu will be making her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Olympics 2021 and will be hoping make a podium finish. First Indian to break into the top 25 World Table Tennis Ranking - The Gifted Sathyan Gnansekharan India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport - Table Tennis 🏓 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran is an Indian table tennis player who hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He took up the sport of Table Tennis at a very young age and he rose through the ranks. However, his parents wanted him to pursue a safer route of engineering and hence he also continued his studies along with his table tennis career. In May 2019, Sathiyan attained his career-best World ranking of 24 and became the first Indian paddler ever to break into the World Top-25 ITTF rankings. "Walking towards the road to Olympics" - The Malappuram Express Irfan Kolothum Thodi India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport: Racewalking 🚶‍♂️ Irfan Kolothum Thodi hails from Mallapuram, Kerala. Coming from a poor farming family, he had to struggle to find ends meet, during his initial days. He started racewalking in 2004-05 after he was inspired by his friend who was a national-level racewalker. Later when he was studying in plus two, he wished to get into a good college on sports quota, and that’s when he took up the sport seriously. Journey: Irfan competed in the 2012 World RaceWalking, clocking a personal best of 1:22:09, and qualified for the Olympics. He couldn't even afford shoes ahead of the London 2012 Games. But popular Malayalam actor Mohanlal came to the rescue and donated an undisclosed amount for his campaign. At the London 2012 Olympics, he set the Indian national record in the 20 km walk with a timing of 1:20:21 and ranked 10th. In March 2013, Irfan finished 5th in the IAAF 20 km Race Walking Challenge event held at Taicang, China. He then won gold in the 2017 Max Bupa Race Walking championship in Delhi. Irfan had also qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics but due to a stress fracture, he had to miss the Rio bus. Irfan is now living his Tokyo dreams and wants to use all his experience and is raring to become the first-ever race walker from the country to win an Olympic medal. Her father and a cousin are wrestlers, who had an influence on her decision to pursue the sport. She joined for coaching under coach Ajmer Malik at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Sports Complex in her village. Facilities were inadequate to start with and the coaching academy did not have mats to practice on. The players had to train on the ground, but the ground would turn muddy on rainy days, forcing the players to practice on roads. Journey: Sonam Malik won a gold medal at the National School Games in 2016. In 2017, she won a silver in the Cadet National Championship, a gold in the World School Games, a bronze medal in the Cadet Asian Wrestling Championship, and finished with a Gold in the Cadet World Wrestling Championship. In 2018, she won bronze medals at the Cadet Asian Wrestling Championship and the Cadet World Wrestling Championship. In 2019, she again won the Gold medal at the Cadet World Wrestling Championship. The 18-year-old has defeated 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik in as many as four meetings. The youngster beat Sakshi at the Asian championships selection trial in 2020 and most recently in the finals of the 2021 wrestling nationals. In the 2021 Asian Olympic qualifiers, she beat Kazakhstan's Ayaulym Kassymova in the semifinals of the women's 62kg division and made a cut to the Tokyo Olympics and thus she also created history by becoming the “Youngest Indian Female Wrestler to qualify for Olympics”. Looking at her current red hot form, Sonam is a medal prospect for India at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. From calling it quits to scoring a National High - The Sensation @kamalpreet70 India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport: Discus Throw Kamalpreet Kaur comes from Badal village in the Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab. As a child, she was not interested academics. On the insistence of her physical education coach, Kaur took up athletics in 2012. She finished fourth at her first state meet. Journey: Kaur started taking the sport seriously in 2014 and her initial training began at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in her village. Her rigorous practice and natural ability soon began to yield results as she became the U-18 and U-20 national champion in 2016. Later, in 2017, she finished sixth at the 29th World University Games. Later At Asian Athletics Championships in Doha in 2019, she finished fifth. In 2018, she had to face the biggest setback of her life. She had to miss out on Commonwealth Games & Asian Games owing to a back injury. Kaur made history at the 24th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships as she became the first Indian woman to breach the 65m barrier in discus throw. Her initial aim was to throw 65m, which she achieved recently. And now she wishes to reach till 68m at the Tokyo Olympics, 2021.

First Indian Woman Sailor at the Olympics - The Sailor Nethra Kumanan India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport: Sailing ⛵ Nethra Kumanan is a professional sailor who hails from Chennai, India. She was introduced to sailing during a summer camp in her childhood. Although Nethra is an Engineer by her educational qualification, she took up sailing sport as a profession. She trains in the Canary Islands in Spain. Journey: Nethra Kumanan specialises in the Laser Radial Class event of Sailing. Nethra Kumanan has represented India at the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games which were held in Incheon and Jakarta, respectively. She became the first Indian woman to win a World Cup medal in sailing when she clinched a bronze medal at 2020 Sailing World Cup in Miami, USA. She competed at the Mussanah Open Sailing Championship, an Asian & African Olympic qualifier tournament in the Laser Radial category. After finishing 10 races in the category, she remained on top and thus qualified for Tokyo Olympics. With her qualification, Nethra Kumanan will become 10th India sailor and the first-ever Indian woman sailor to represent India at the Olympics when she competes at the Laser Radial Class at the Tokyo Olympics , 2021. From quitting modelling to qualifying for Olympics - The Determined Manika Batra India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport - Table Tennis 🏓 Manika Batra was born in Naraina Vihar in Delhi. She began playing table tennis at the age of four. Both her elder brother and sister used to play table tennis and this influenced her to take up the sport. As a teenager she had many offers in modelling, but she turned down all of it, just to pursue a career in Table Tennis. Journey: In 2011, Manika won the silver medal in the under-21 category of the Chile Open. She represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, where she finished quarterfinalist, as well as the 2014 Asian Games. She won three medals at the 2015 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, winning silver in the women's team event as well as the women's doubles event and bronze in the women's singles event. Manika won three gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games, winning the women's doubles event, mixed doubles event and women's team event. She qualified for the women's singles event of the 2016 Summer Olympics by winning the South Asia group of the qualification tournament in April 2016. However, her appearance at the 2016 Olympics short-lived. Manika led the Indian women's team to a gold medal win in the final against four-time gold medallists and defending champions Singapore at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. The Singapore women's table tennis team had never lost in the Commonwealth Games since the sport was inducted in the program in 2002. She defeated world number 4 Feng Tianwei as well as Zhou Yihan in India's 3–1 win in the final. Manika is now set to take part in her second Olympic games, and is hoping to make a podium finish at the Tokyo Olympics 2021. First ever sportswoman from Assam to qualify for Olympics - The Ringster Lovlina Borgohan India's Medal Quest - Tokyo Olympics 2021 🏅🇮🇳 Sport - Boxing 🥊 Lovlina was born to Tiken Borgohain and Mamoni Borgohain. Her father is a small-scale businessman and her mother is a homemaker. Lovlina Borgohain’s twin elder sisters were national champions in kickboxing and this encouraged her to take up kickboxing initially. Lovlina continued her career in kickboxing before she decided to switch her career to boxing when she found the opportunity to pursue the sport. Lovlina’s boxing talent was spotted by the national coach Podum Boro during the trials conducted at her school by the Sports Authority of India. In 2012, Lovlina joined the boxing academy and began her training under Podum Boro. Journey: After receiving training from coach Podum Boro, Lovlina participated in the junior and senior nationals' boxing competitions and excelled well. As soon as Lovalina’s boxing career began to progress towards the international stage, she came under the guidance of the chief coach of women’s boxing Shiv Singh. Lovlina’s international breakthrough came in 2017 when she made her international debut for India and won a Bronze medal in the 75 kg category at the President’s Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. At the 2018 World Women’s Boxing Championships, she won a Bronze medal in the Welterweight category held in New Delhi. She won the Bronze medal in the Welterweight category again in the following year at Ulan-Ude in Russia. In March 2020, Lovlina Borgohain became the first Indian woman boxer from Assam to qualify for the Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after she won the 2020 Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament by defeating Uzbekistan's Maftunakhon Melieva in the 69kg Welterweight category.
