April 4, 1958: The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament symbol (aka Peace Sign) is displayed in public for the first time in London. The symbol was designed by British graphic designer and artist Gerald Holtom, and was quickly adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists in the United States and elsewhere.
