Bose® RoomMatch® System Lets the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Handle Anything
Tumblr media
Part of a multi-year, $13.1 million renovation at the Arena, the new Bose® RoomMatch® system gives the venue the right coverage, with great intelligibility and configurability for a variety of applications
Framingham, MA, June 30, 2015 – With a 15-year track record of hosting some of America’s greatest entertainment acts, the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, is one of the South’s premier entertainment destinations. The 15,000-seat venue has hosted artists including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney and Usher, and events like the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, WWE, Disney on Ice and Winter Jam, in addition to serving as home ice for the ECHL-league Greenville Road Warriors hockey team. The venue’s existing sound system was pushed to its limits and beyond; in particular, there was a chronic sound “shadow” on the other side of the dasher boards that ring the hockey rink, dimming the sound for those premium seats nearest the ice. But that’s all in the past now. As part of a $13.1 million renovation that began last year, a new RoomMatch® system from Bose® Professional was installed in the Arena, and now meetings, shows and sporting events all have the clear and intelligible sound they need. “This venue is used for such a wide range of events, from sports to music to meetings, and the sound system in place simply needed to be updated to provide the flexibility for the different events and seating arrangements,” explains Ken Betsch, Principal at Betsch Associates, the architectural firm that designed the renovation, including the seating bowl, the concourse and the luxury suites. “The biggest issue really was the acoustical ‘shadow’ that was created by the hockey dasher boards. The sound would just fall off on the other side of them.” John Hodgson, Senior Associate at Avant Acoustics, the consulting company that did the acoustical analysis of the venue and specified the audio systems for the renovation, says those seats near the transparent acrylic wall are premium ones that should have the best sound in the house for hockey. “Instead, they had the least intelligibility,” he says. But that changed with Avant’s recommendation of a RoomMatch configuration. The system was installed by Pensacola, Florida-based Pro Sound & Video, based on the design from Avant Acoustics. During the design process Avant Acoustics’ utilized Bose Modeler® software to precisely define the room’s acoustics, leading to the determination that 16 RoomMatch modules would be needed for optimal sound quality. The arrays’ highly specific dispersion patterns aim the sound precisely onto seating areas and away from reverberant surfaces. There are eight arrays configured with one RM5510, one RM7020 and two RM7040 modules; four arrays using one RM5510, one RM7020 and two RM7040s; and four more arrays consisting of one RM7010, one RM7020 and one RM5560. In addition, eight RM5560 modules are suspended above the main floor, firing downward. These speakers, as well as a number of subwoofers, are powered by 22 PowerMatch® PM8500N networked amplifiers, installed on the catwalks. The result, says Hodgson, is seamless coverage of seating throughout the venue and the elimination of the sonic shadow around the dasher boards, as well as an increase in intelligibility for sports and other events held there. “That’s completely attributable to the RoomMatch speakers,” he states. “We had looked at traditional point-source speaker solutions, but they can have phase issues between the speakers in an array. The RoomMatch system gives us seamless coverage from speaker to speaker, zone to zone. Great coverage and control, in addition to heightened speech intelligibility.” The new sound system is also highly configurable, allowing elements of the system to be used selectively for when event stages are placed in the center or at one end of the arena. “Touring music acts are usually going to bring their own sound, but this system lets them use parts of the RoomMatch installation to extend those touring systems, assuring complete coverage of the room,” Hodgson explains. Ken Betsch adds, “I’ve always been impressed with Bose sound, and this installation is no exception. And it’s also given us great sound in the building for a very reasonable cost. That’s a great combination.”

Here’s a throwback with one of Dr. Amar Bose’s early designs for loudspeakers, and another of the man, himself, working away. Pretty cool!

Bose® RoomMatch® Loudspeakers Installed at Tropicana Theater in Las Vegas for Classic Rock Revue “Raiding the Rock Vault”
Tumblr media
As the rock supergroup settles into its new home, the RoomMatch® system is drawing rave reviews from band, production staff and audience members alike
Framingham, MA, July 7, 2015 – A RoomMatch® loudspeaker system from Bose® Professional has been permanently installed in the Tropicana Theater inside The New Tropicana Las Vegas, the home of the noted musical revue Raiding The Rock Vault, which features a supergroup of rock royalty from bands such as Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Heart, Survivor, The Offspring, Quiet Riot, Asia and Badfinger, and a set list that includes classic anthems from such legends as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Journey and more. Working with the show’s Production Manager Keith Marks, Bose Professional personnel took a hands-on approach to designing the system for the venue, using Modeler® sound system software to fine-tune the configuration to ensure even coverage throughout the space. Bose then collaborated with the IATSE union to install and tune the system. The venue seats approximately 1,200 and there is just one level of seating (though there is an upper area with lighting and other equipment that creates somewhat of an under balcony area). Booth seating at the front of the room offers a VIP experience. Bose products installed include two RoomMatch arrays with eight modules each (from top to bottom, one RM9005, four RM12005, two RM12010 and one RM12020), each flanked by a five-module RMS215 bass array; eight RoomMatch RMS218 subwoofers centrally arrayed on the floor under the stage thrust; RoomMatch single-array modules (RM9040) paired with RMS215s used as side fills for the musicians; RoomMatch Utility RMU208 loudspeakers used as stage monitors for those musicians not using in-ears; and 31 PowerMatch® PM8500N amplifiers with three ControlSpace® engineered sound processors using Dante™ networked audio driving the loudspeaker system. Additionally, Bose has been fortunate enough to be able to use the theater as a demo site and/or testing lab, either setting up new configurations and measuring the performance of new or prototype products, or previewing the existing system for contractors, system integrators, design consultants and FOH engineers. With more than 100 shows already under its belt at The New Tropicana Las Vegas, the system has been drawing rave reviews from the production staff, band members and the audience alike. Keith Marks, whose other credits include work with Styx, Night Ranger and others, has been particularly impressed. He stated, “It is a real treat to hear this production on the Bose RoomMatch system. Everyone thinks it sounds great. With years of experience as a front-of-house engineer, I know what to listen for, and I feel the system is very transparent – I can feel and hear the kick drum and every other element in the mix. And now that I know more about the different coverage patterns offered by the RoomMatch line and what these systems can do, I’m even more impressed. But I’m not exactly surprised – when Bose does something, they do it well! For regional installers and sound companies, I think this is a great rig to consider.” Tony Tauber, director of technical operations for The New Tropicana Las Vegas, stated, “The numbers in the show are iconic with signature vocals. With the RoomMatch system, we are able to get excellent clarity on the vocals above the instrument levels coming from the amps on stage. Overall, the band is very happy – particularly with the low-end response; the ground-stack subs that we are using as part of the RoomMatch system are a great way to deliver the bass. The band and production manager are extremely pleased with the rig.” About Raiding The Rock Vault: Raiding the Rock Vault is The Story of Classic Rock, performed by members of some of the greatest rock bands in history – a two-hour classic rock concert experience that transports the audience from the 1960s to the 1980s with classic anthems from rock’s top acts. This fully live concert experience features a stunning light show, video screens, actors, DJ Narrator, and high quality concert sound production. Voted Best of Las Vegas 2014 and 2015 in the Review-Journal’s Reader’s Poll and called “a fantasy football team in the form of a rock band” by Hollywood Underdog.

Day Three
I have had this blog to test out how well it would work for creating our own content. I plan to test out different types of posts, and the addition of a custom HTML.
Yesterday, I began learning how to write HTML, and I hope to create a custom look for the page. I also plan on creating custom tabs that redirect to the website and other resources.
I think this could be a good resource if there is someone to create the content; however, it could be difficult to keep up because it is almost all self created content.
