“I rushed outside and there was this little fence right outside the school. I remember climbing on that fence, trying to look inside the bus windows as the buses pulled up. At one point, I actually thought I saw her and my heart was pounding.. It was just momentary because I realized it wasn’t her. 

I can’t even begin to describe the feeling when the last student walked off that bus, and there was no one left to get off, and Rachel wasn’t there.”

“I spend a lot of time at Rachel’s grave. I was there one evening, and I started thinking about the two dates on her grave stone - August 5th, 1981. I remember every detail about that day. I remember holding her for the first time. This is where I get emotional, so I have to fight it. I remember her first cry. I remember every detail about that day. 

Of course, I remember everything about the day she died. Every second of that day, I remember vividly. But as I was looking at the two dates, I also started thinking about the space between the two dates. Because that was her life.” - Darrell Scott

“They proceeded to shoot and kill 13 people. One teacher and twelve students. They also took their lives that day. While most of us would be here hoping that we would honor those who were lost. We believe Eric and Dylan were lost, too. So I’m here to honor the 13 who died. But I’m also here to stand up for the Eric and Dylan’s of the world. Who are, for whatever reason, angry. And feel like they don’t belong, and feel like they need to take it out on someone else. Because I wish someone would have got to those boys sooner.
