Leon shrugs it off. He could be angry if he let himself, but he's been through too much at this point, done too many things he's ashamed of. If somebody got to know him well enough to pick him apart, they could find those little corners of him that they wouldn't like.

Better to play dumb. He's just the muscle, right. When you call yourself the brains, people know there's more to you. That was Luis' mistake.

"What's the point of being angry? The world's fucked up enough without being angry at somebody who's trying." But he can't quite help himself. He adds, "Sort of."

ooc. i think the main way to get leon to like you is to activate his abandonment issues. like, luis may act as shady as humanly possible and ditch him in dangerous situations multiple times, but leon manages to get pretty damn attached to him in a short time. ada pretends to be dead for years and leon would literally do the stupidest shit for her without question. ashley runs away from him because she's scared, and leon says some of the softest shit you've ever heard to cheer her up.

My thoughts on Leon's childhood.

Note: I have only seen that one fictional interview where he mentions his childhood and decided to keep it and expand on it. If there's some kind of fanon consensus that I'm going against, that's ok.

(Honestly nervous about putting any of my headcanons out there because I am so new to this canon but... I have been thinking about this a lot so I want to write it down.)

So, short version is that his parents were sort of middle class suburban drug dealers. They were trying to climb the ladder and expand their business and overstepped with the wrong people, so their house was attacked and the parents and Leon's siblings were killed, but Leon found a place to hide until the police came and found him. He was able to give a description of the guy who was threatening his parents before all this happened and had to get on the stand to describe what happened with the support of the police officer who'd found him and was basically the only person who could reach him at that point. He was put into witness protection for a while until the main guy ended up dead.

I am also kind of thinking Kennedy wasn't his name originally, and he picked it up from whatever family took him in? I don't know if I'm going to stick with that, but it's always kind of bothered me that he's apparently Italian American with that name (ignore that I am Italian American with a very un-Italian surname shhh). Also thinking he could be from Michigan? Am not keeping the concept of him immigrating from Italy or the family crime being mafia-related.

Anyway, these are my thoughts right now. Feedback is welcome if you're nice about it~

hc. my very spicy sunday headcanon is that leon really, totally loves a lot of people, but rarely has any romantic or sexual feelings. he just has a lot of capacity for caring about others and is emotionally satisfied if he knows they're happy and safe even if he doesn't stay in their lives. (And he's aware that staying in their lives might make them less safe and happy in the long run.)

"Yeah..." Leon's never been good at responding to someone else being worried about him. Putting himself in danger is what he does, and probably all he's ever been good at, so why would anyone worry? It'd be like getting shot at and then asking your body armor if it's doing all right.

Ashley probably would do that, though, and the thought makes him grin a little. "I'm not that easy to kill."
