Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: World of Color Update

Welcome to the World of Color Update! There was such a huge marketing push behind this one but there weren't nearly as many features are there are in mdoern Minecraft Updates.

The Achievement system has been reworked Again, so I get a bunch of advancements the second I logged on, as well as a bunch of recipes for the recipe book and the control tutorial

Wow, "Getting Wood" with a diamond axe twice and getting "Stone Age" with a diamond pickaxe in the same world. This world is going to get weirder over the next few updates, too.

I fixed the last Collection Section, and added the new one.

I then began glazing the terracotta, there are 4 categories of new items in this update, and they mostly come in the 16 dye colors, Concrete, Concrete Powder, Glazed Terracotta, and Beds.

It's also my first time ever sleeping, I am 50 hours into this world.

Here I am sorting my concretes and my concrete powders so I can put them in my collection.

Here are my first diamonds and my first seeds, which I got trying to make a hoe to breed my cows for new steaks, which I never actually do in this update

And here's me crafting the beds.

Minecraft Items Challenge: The Exploration Update: Finale

This post starts at my end portal, where which will definitely not waste my time.

A few pictures of me flying around the end at the start of my 90 minute shell grinding session, in The Exploration Update, looting does not effect shulker shell drops, so I had to visit about 8 end cities before getting my 40ish shells.

Weridly enough, I got enough XP from Shulkers to keep my elytra at almost half health.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Exploration Update: Part 1

Welcome to the Exploration Update, the one where I massively increase the file size of my world.

This update is full of absolutely massive Late-Game features, like rocket boosting your elytra.

Also, this is the first update that is supported by Vanillatweaks, my favorite resource pack

And now we are off, we are looking of a post-Bountiful Update village and a woodland mansion, which I go the complete wrong way to because I looked up a seed map and then typed in my seed wrong.

Here's the librarian that ends up giving me both maps, I had to make a little sugar cane farm in order to make the THREE STACKS of emeralds I needed to unlock the explorer map trades

Here's the mansion! The main strategy for Woodland mansions is to land on the roof and break in a window, and then go room by room clearing it out like an old shooter.

Didn't get a picture of it because Evokers attack you the second they see you, but here are my first two Totems of Undying

Here's a vindicator that jump scared me while In was digging through a chest.

here's a whole hole left by a creeper, holy shit!

on my way back I saw this village that got cut in half by an update so it's just a single villager house and some crops.

and I've made it home, lots of loot in hand, I managed to get a golden apple and a saddle as well.

I made a new Collection Section, Dark Oak this time, because every block in this update is a shulker box.

In this update I got the Totem of Undying, Ocean Explorer Map, and Woodland Explorer Map

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Frostburn Update

Welcome to the Frostburn Update! It sure was an Update.

I used the bones generated from my mob farm to build the new Collection Section and craft the first item of 4.

I grabbed Nether Wart from my brewing room and used that to make the second item and start the third item.

I grabbed the Nether Bricks that I had smelted somewhere around the Adventure Update, and used that to finish the third update.

And here's the Magma Cream, the thing I need for the fourth and final item.

And here's the update. I gathered Bone Block, Nether Wart Block, Magma Block, and Red Nether Bricks, thus completing the Frostburn Update

Up next is the Exploration Update, which, contrary to popular belief, is a real update that actually has features.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Combat Update: Finale

I added Mending to all of my gear, and I noticed that the cost had reset, which will make it easy for me to craft god armor when I get around to Village and Pillage

Get a good look at that, FINALLY fully geared up, it only took 7 years worth of updates.

using the elytra in the mountainous terrain between me and my end portal, it's really starting to feel like modern Minecraft, which makes it all the more frustrating for all of the missing features.

I grabbed all of the chorus fruit I need, as well as a single chorus flower, I now have everything I need for my new Collection Section (I was sorting through my inventory earlier and I saw a second elytra and dragon head, so I must have found a fourth end city and not taken a screenshot of it or found any loot of value, I don't know why, it's been a while since I played that post)

After I got back, I built the Combat Update part of the Collection Section.

I crafted up all of the items I needed after I headed back

I then brewed up the lingering potions and the splash water bottle I needed.

I then put all of the stuff in the Collection Section and with that I've completed the Combat Update, in this post I gathered Beetroot Seeds, a Beetroot, Beetroot Stew, Elytra, Dragon Head, Dragon's Breath, Purpur Block, Purpur Pillar, Purpur Slab, Purpur Stairs, End Stone Bricks, Lingering Potion, Tipped Arrow, Birch Boat, Acacia Boat, Jungle Boat, Dark Oak Boat, Spruce Boat, Popped Chorus Fruit, End Rod, Shield, Splash Water Battle, Chorus Flower, Chorus Fruit, End Crystal, and a Spectral Arrow.

Up Next, the Frostburn Update, which is jam packed with 7 new features, 4 of which are applicable to this challenge.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Combat Update: Part 1

I'm back, and welcome to the combat update! This Update reworked the combat, and updated the end.

There's a new world selection UI, which is cool, we've pretty firmly reached a much more modern version of Minecraft

Taking an unbreaking 3 book with me to make sure my elytra is safe. I'm also crafting a new set of boots because mine are almost broken and I need to put mending on them

I now have a shield, the most powerful item in Minecraft

I went into the nether and grabbed myself some ghast tears to respawn the dragon.

I upgraded my beacon to the legendary MEGA BEACON, making me basically unkillable in my base

look at how crazy the FOV is with Speed II

Brand new bow to slaughter the dragon easier.

Oh hey, boats are good now.

oh, this did not resummon the dragon, I had to go into a new world with the same seed as my current world and see what elevation the portal is in, and then put the end crystals on obsidian there so the game registers that I'm trying to resummon the dragon

Ranking all portable ways to play Minecraft

Minecraft Java Edition (Steam Deck or other Portable PC): This is basically cheating, but it's super easy to set up on basically any portable PC, It's updated to the latest version, it has betas, it has full mod support, and the controls can be whatever you want thanks to Steam Input

2. Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition: this is the last version of Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, so it has all of the love and care that that version had, with the bonus of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. This version runs silky smooth with about a 10 chunk render distance, and has the easiest multiplayer on the list, assuming you can find other people with a discontinued version of Minecraft. This version of the game lacks a bunch of features because it was not updated past the Update Aquatic

3. Minecraft Playstation Vita Edition: I adore the playstation vita, and this is the other portable version of Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, although there are some limitations that come with being on weaker hardware, like Multiplayer being limited to 4 players, a slightly lower render distance (about 5 chunks), and a smaller world size. The game controls better than the Switch version because the Playstation Vita is more ergonomic than the Switch, but other than that it's basically the same game.

4. Minecraft (Android/IOS): Minecraft on Phones is better than you'd expect, but not much better, it has an 8-20 chunk render distance depending on the speed of your device and how okay you are with frame drops, which speaks to how much less stable this version of Minecraft is compared to the Java and Legacy Console Edtions are. There is mod support, but it's really lacking, and you are updated to the lastest version of the game. However, the touch screens just do not give Minecraft justice, so you would need a bluetooth controller, which have latency on both Android and IOS. Minecraft Bedrock Edition is missing a lot of the love found in the Legacy console versions, which really hurts it in the ranking.

5. Minecraft New Nintendo 3DS Edition: Despite sounding like a legacy console version of Minecraft, it isn't, this one was developed by Other Oceans Interactive, and thus is also missing a lot of the love found on the Legacy Console Editions. this is also the least updated version of Minecraft on this list being stuck in the World of Color Update, it's also the weakest system Minecraft has ever had an official port for, being about as powerful as an Xbox or Wii, and that leads to a lot of technical limitations. Like the 4 chunk render distance and the fact that the game freezes when it autosaves, it also hangs in some worlds when large structures are being loaded. the controls are about as good as you could reasonably expect for a 3DS, and you get used to them very quickly. The UI is strange and in some parts unintuitive. Multiplayer is about as easy as it can be on a handheld because of the 3DS' Download Play feature.

6. Minecraft (Nintendo Switch): This is the version of Minecraft that replaced the Legacy Console Edition, and it's bad, the render distance is 7 chunks and even then the game is quite framey, the touch screen literally does nothing, not even the presses buttons on the main menu. Multiplayer is somewhat easy in terms of split screen, but it makes the performance even worse, and the online features are barely there, (except for the marketplace, that works perfectly). The game is unstable, I've played for about 5 hours and in that time I got 7 crashes to the switch's home screen.

I've been playing on a survival world with some friends recently, so I thought I'd show off the design concept for my "Beta-Style" base that I am using in my Minecraft Items Challenge and here is what that base looks like as of The Combat Update

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Bountiful Update: Finale

I updated the last of the visible oak in my base, replaced it with dark oak.

Then I brewed up 6 water breathing potions to deal with the ocean monument

I bred and killed some sheep so I could get mutton.

I then set off to look for an ocean monument, encountering sheep and pigs stuck in leaves, which appears to be a Bountiful Update glitch that was fixed in The Combat Update. I also found a chunk error shockingly close to my base.

I killed a bunch of rabbits in order to get their drops, which is alot easier because of how much slower rabbits are in this update than in current Minecraft. I got the rabbit's foot after just 11 rabits, which was really lucky considering rabbits only have a 2.5% chance to drop their foot in this update.

And there it is, the main draw of the update!

It is really dark in here for a structure with its own unique light block

Here's an Elder Guardian

Mining out a bunch of the monument blocks, I don't think i will use this in any build, but it would be nice to have when prismarine slabs and stairs are added in Update Aquatic

I stumbled into the sponge room, even though I thought I had explored the whole monument when looking for Elder Guardians, and then I went back to the central room for the gold blocks

on my way back I stumbled into a mob spawner on the surface, and it had a name tag and diamond horse armor in it

I forgot to pick up my bed, so I have to run through the night, I would literally never do this pre-Combat Update, but I've gotten really used to classic Minecraft combat, so I'm feeling confident (perfect timing too, considering this is the last update with the system)

Oh hey, a beacon, that must be my base

uh, where is my base, oh my god the game did crash right before I explored the monument, my base must have gotten reset again, dammit, now I have to go back to a backup and do the update again

Oh wait, this is just my end portal, I totally forgot I had a beacon there, and I can't even use the end to get back to world spawn, because I left my bed 4km away on some random island

Up next it was time to craft up the rest of the items I needed.

I also fixed the Beta 1.7 collection system, the pistons were extended when I swapped out the glowstone in my floor for redstone lamps, so I replaced some of the pistons with wood, I decided to fix this issue by swapping the redstone lamps out for glowstone right above this part of the collection section

I also removed the redstone lamps from the smelting room at the base of my tower and replaced them with sea lanterns

In this update I added Cooked Mutton, Raw Mutton, Rabbit's Foot, Rabbit Hide, Raw Rabbit, Prismarine Shard, Prismarine Crystals, Wet Sponge, Prismarine Bricks, Prismarine, Sea Lantern, Dark Prismarine, Sponge, Cooked Rabbit, and Rabbit Stew, thus completing The Bountiful Update

Next Update I will finally finally finally get an elytra. And hopefully the dragon refight doesn't glitch like the original fight did.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Bountiful Update: Part 1

Welcome to the Bountiful Update, this is another one of the most played old versions of Minecraft if you want to play a version of the game that has really shitty combat. It's also the last update before an extremely long time with no updates, and the first update in the Microsoft Era

New world selection screen. Still no world thumbnails.

Oh goodie, my skin is complete!

My Alpha Slabs have broken, and will remain that way until Update Aquatic.

After the time I spent fishing last update, I think I might have too many saddles.

This update added a bunch of new Wood Blocks, so I thought it would also add better signs, but apparently those weren't added until Village & Pillage

New Collection Section out of Red Sandstone.It was either this or prismarine, which would be a better choice, but it would stop me from building the Collection Section until after I've raided an ocean monument.

I then crafted up all of the new Stone blocks, and I have to say the crafting recipes for Diorite, Andesite, and Granite have to be the most obscure recipes in the game

Up next is banners, only the 16 basic ones instead of the 12.7 quattuordecillion types that you can make with dyes, I built a little cow pen because I've noticed that animals are spawning less and less frequently around my base, and I want a consistent source of food for when I get to bigger updates like The Combat Update and those that make up Modern Minecraft

Also, my nether portal is broken, unfortunately it will not stay that way for long, when I go into the nether for Magma Blocks in the Frostburn Update the portal will fix itself

Chiseled Red Sandstone, Diorite, Andesite, Granite, Polished Diorite, Polished Andesite, Polished Granite, Armor Stand, Iron Trapdoor, Chiseled Stone Bricks, Coarse Dirt, Slime Block, White Banner, Light Gray Banner, Gray Banner, Black Banner, Brown Banner, Orange Banner, Yellow Banner, Lime Banner, Green Banner, Cyan Banner, Light Blue Banner, Blue Banner, Purple Banner, Magenta Banner, Pink Banner, and Red Banner.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Update that Changed the World: Finale

First things first was a Dark Oak and Black Stained Glass update to the base

Something I noticed about my skin, is that the outer layer is missing, so my belt, collar, and cuff are missing on this skin, however the glasses, which are on a higher layer, are there. This is not a glitch, the outer layer only existed for the head until The Bountiful Update.

Anyways, those fish I totally didn't forget are getting put in The Collection.

I went through a seed finder to look for the three biomes I need. I'm looking for an Allium, Packed Ice, and Red Sand. It's a long journey, but off I go, here's another picture of a chunk error

It's weird seeing terrain with grass, the alpha terrain around my base doesn't have grass, and my base in my main world is made of moss and has been grass free since Trails & Tales came out

Item #1, the Allium, I missed this bastard at the last flower forest when I was looking for Dark Oak and Acacia wood.

And right next to the flower forest, way closer than I thought it would be, is the Ice Spikes Biome. I tore down an Ice Spike and continued on

Oh no, a fire in the distance, that's the first time I've seen that since beta 1.0

I was not looking and I fell in a ravine, ravines did not exist before this update, so I had my guard down

I found a new friend! He didn't like me :*(

Hey! Blacksmith and Desert Temple

FUCKING FINALLY, only took me an hour and a half, not the worst exploration I've had to do, but long enough to be annoying, grabbed 3 stacks of the stuff for when Red Sandstone is added in the next update.

After another podcast episode, I return to my base.

I crafted the stained glass and stained glass panes, this is quite a large chunk of the update.

Okay, fishing time! I was going to make an Auto Fish Farm, but those don't work until the next update.

okay, after 40 minutes, I've gotten a name tag I threw away my fishing rod because I won't need this ever again, also, here's the haul.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Update that Changed the World: Part 1

Welcome to The Update that Changed the World, which is the largest Update so far but the raw number of items I need

New Features in the Menus, Twitch Integration (Which doesn't work anymore), Built in shaders, which were such fun for the few updates they existed, and language settings, which are great for accessibility.

The tutorials are in the game now, and also there's a new chunk loading system meaning I get a lovely look at this when I open my world.

Achievement system has been reset again, meaning I get to get "Taking Inventory" again.

Also, the current skin system is implemented, meaning I am no longer Minecraft Steve.

My sugarcane farm has finally broken because of the ice. This is because of the new chunk loading system I mentioned earlier.

Here's a look at the shaders, I'm doing some fishing, and I totally remembered to put the fish into the Collection and didn't forget.

Also new in this update: The Z-Fighting Glitch and the Item Stitching Glitch, both of witch are still in the game as of the latest snapshots.

Wow, also new, being able to see item durability, hitboxes, and chunk borders with F3.

Okay, Heading North to look for new terrain for the new trees.

Here's the Chunk Error, we are now out of a1.0 terrain and in 1.7 terrain

Finally fixing my issue from Beta 1.6, I am grabbing a fern, apparently I could have gotten one in 1.2, but I didn't know, oopsie.

Also new, and relevant to the challenge, Flowers, I've got to get a bunch of them.

Don't make me boat again, I'm gonna get flashbacks from The Adventure Update. Also, you'll notice I've got the vibrancy shader on, I turned this off because it would cause lag spikes when I looked into the distance.

I'm running out of inventory space, I'll need to fill my e-chest with flowers and the like

About damn time, only 5km from spawn is the first of the new biomes, the Roofed Forest, home of the Dark Oak Trees.

This might be one of only a few worlds to get "Getting Wood" with a diamond axe legit, twice!

The first Horse in this world, not in The Horse Update.

This glitch is apparently still in the game as of The Update that Changed the World, I first saw it in The Adventure Update

and just under 6km from spawn, I have finally been graced by a savanah, unfortunately, I ran out of inventory space before I found a badlands, so I will need to explore more in the next post

On my way back I noticed that Sugar Cane now change with the biome color, I think that this is an Adventure Update feature but I've just noticed it now.

I grabbed 2 stacks of ice on my way back, thinking I could craft them into packed ice and blue ice, but blue ice isn't added into the game until the Update Aquatic, which is also when the crafting recipe for packed ice is added, so I need to find the ultra-rare Ice Spikes biome for my packed ice.

Okay, back at base and I've made the Collection Section, this is the last one without colorful signs, expect less oak in the future

In this post I added a White Tulip, Pink Tulip, Oxeye Daisy, Azure Bluet, Fern, Orange Tulip, Acacia Planks, Acacia Log, Podzol, Red Tulip, Dead Bush, Blue Orchid, Peony, Rose Bush, Lilac, Sunflower, Dark Oak Log, Dark Oak Planks, Acacia Sapling, Dark Oak Sapling, Acacia Leaves, Dark Oak Leaves, Acacia Stairs, Acacia Slab, Dark Oak Stars, and a Dark Oak Slab.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Horse Update

Welcome to The Horse Update, there are no horses in this post, I did go looking in the plains around my house, but there weren't any there.

This little guy was outside my base, he's my new friend.

First up, terracotta, very fun to craft and leaves 7 behind to turn into glazed terracotta in The World of Color Update

Holy shit, you can't dye carpets, I could've sworn you could do this

I've made a sheep farm to compensate for this inability

I also realized I was running low on certain types of dye, so I've made an Automatic Cactus Farm and a simple cocoa bean farm, both are far bigger than I will ever need.

After a bit of grinding I've made carpets for my room and my main hall.

Okay, my plan here is to find chests in the nether fortresses and just reset the nether until I get all three forms of horse armor

Chest #2 contains both iron and golden horse armor, I had to run back to the overworld before I reset the nether and grabbed some obsidian and a flint & steel.

Upon resetting the nether, the chests aren't here, which makes sense with what I know of Minecraft Worldgen at this time, but it does mean I have to scour the fortress for chests.

there we go, chest #3 has diamond horse armor, I have gotten lucky again.

I put my return portal somewhere safe and headed back.

I have made another mistake in the Items Challenge list, I originally put Name Tags in The Horse Update, which is when they were added, but I did not realize that they were dungeon exclusive until The Update that Changed the World, and I don't do dungeon exclusives after Beta 1.4 because there is just no reliable way to find them. Even if I do find a dungeon Name Tags only spawn in about 27% of dungeon chests, meaning I might need to find 2 or 3, which would take days that I don't want to waste when I can set up an auto fish farm a single update later.

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Redstone Update: Finale

Woo, I reset the nether again so I can mine a bunch of Nether quartz

Okay, I'm bored now, I'm just gonna dupe these, I don't want to waste my pickaxe before they add mending.

I forgot to grab the ore, so I needed to head back to the nether.

This has to be the most forgettable crafting recipe in the game. Occasionally I have to look up an obscure recipe, but this one I entirely forgot that quartz pillars exist, despite the fact that I've used them in recent builds in my main world, but even then I was using a stonecutter.

There are parts of my base where you can still find oak planks and cobblestone on my base in little crevasses that you can't see from the outside.

In this post I obtained Nether Quartz, Nether Quartz Ore, Block of Redstone, Quartz Pillar, Chiseled Quartz, Block of Quartz, Quartz Slab, Quartz Stairs, Redstone Comparator, and a Daylight Sensor

Minecraft Items Challenge Attempt 2: The Redstone Update: Part 1

Welcome to The Redstone Update, we will not be interacting with redstone very much in this update.

First thing I did was turn my mob grinder automatic by adding the brand new hoppers and lowering the depth.

Wow, the underside of my base is truly ugly, and I'm certain it's only going to get worse as I change my base more.

Menu navigation FINALLY works the way it does in modern Minecraft, mostly. This is by far the most annoying part of going back to classic Minecraft and I'm pleased that I no longer have to deal with it.

I went to craft carpets before I realized that was next update.

I begun to craft all of the new items that I don't need quartz for, most of these are redstone mechanisms that I don't have use for.

I then built the new Collection Section, this time out of Redstone Blocks.

This post I added the Activator Rail, Nether Brick, Heavy Weighted Pressure Plate, Hopper, Trapped Chest, Minecart with TNT, Minecart with Hopper, Light Weighted Pressure Plate, and the Dropper.
