Cyber Security
Cyber security is becoming an increasingly important need in the modern era, and the need to be upto-date with all the cyber-security trends is evergrowing. The game Nova Cybersecurity Lab is anb excellent way to learn about cyber security principles while having fun. The game showed how easy it is for computers to breakdown passwords, in mere seconds at times. This reinforces the need to have stronger passwords.
Another key concept was social engineering, particularly through phishing tactics. The simulation tested my ability to detect suspicious emails and deceptive links. This aligns with our course material highlighting how cybercriminals exploit human psychology, not just technical flaws, to steal data. The game illustrated how even a well-trained user must stay vigilant, since phishing techniques are always evolving.
The game shows how easy it is to mess-up a single piece of code which can have a cascading effect causing a mass failure. The need to debug code is ever important and was reciprocated by the game.
Overall, the Nova game helped me apply abstract cybersecurity theories in a concrete, interactive format. It reminded me that security isn’t just about tools but also about awareness, critical thinking, and constant vigilance.

Information Disorder
Here we look at cases of information that may bring about misinformation, mal-information, and disinformation.
Here, Elon Musk talks about the US President Donald Trump being a named individual in the Epstein files, which so far have not been fully declassified. Elon Musk alleges Donald Trump being in the files is why that has not happened. This is a case of mal-information due to Elon's spat with Trump, since the information has been spread about with the intent to harm the US President's public relations.
Here, we see the quote "Know yourself and you will win all battles" - Sun Tzu. This is something that Sun Tzu never said, but the quote is being used in good faith. This is a case of misinformation since the information is not harmful.
This post here blames then-US Presidential election candidate of staging the assassination attempt. The reasoning being given that Trump pumps his fist to rally the crowds. The conspiracy also suggests that the assassination attempt was staged so Trump could have extensive support from the masses. This is a case of disinformation.

Social Media: The Fine Line between Wit and Misstep
Social media is a powerful tool that can shape public perception in an instant. The difference between a successful post and a backlash often lies in tone, timing, and relevance. In this post, I compare two contrasting examples: a light-hearted but ill-timed jab by Ryanair and an informational post by NASA.
Tumblr media
The first example is NASA, which tweeted about the discovery of a black hole 600 million light-years away. The post is visually engaging and informs audiences about this galactic event in detail. It adheres closely to two important principles: value-driven content and audience engagement through education. NASA consistently uses its platform to spark curiosity and foster trust in science, aligning well with its organizational mission.
Tumblr media
In contrast, the second example is Ryanair’s response to a post by Arsenal FC, which said, “MAKE IT HAPPEN,” referring to their hopes of making a comeback in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. After Arsenal’s defeat, Ryanair quoted the tweet with a humorous “or not.” While humor and sarcasm are central to Ryanair’s brand voice, this post misreads the emotional context of a loss felt by fans and players. This violates the principle of audience sensitivity, one of the key tenets of social media best practices. Rather than building a community or showing empathy, the post alienates a large group of potential customers by mocking their disappointment.
Together, these examples highlight the importance of strategic tone and audience awareness on social platforms. Humor can be effective when used appropriately, but it must be balanced with empathy and context. Meanwhile, content that informs, engages, and aligns with an organization’s values tends to perform better in both reach and reputation.
In today’s world, brands can’t afford to treat social media as a throwaway tool. Every post is a chance to either alienate or connect. The choice and impact are up to them.
