Ravenclaw House Traits

Ravenclaws are known for their intelligence and think before they act, but will often say what’s on their minds or do what they want anyways despite being fully aware of the consequences because they simply don’t give a fuck (ie Luna Lovegood). One of the biggest misconception is that Ravenclaws are all nerdy and studious. While it is true for some, others think school is a waste of their gifts and energy and would rather use their talents for stuff they find more enjoyable or worthy. Therefore you get a lot of Ravenclaws who procrastinate or flat out refuse to do their work despite being more than capable of it. Ravenclaws are likely to be highly “gifted” but can often burn out or become disillusioned with life at a fairly young age. Ravenclaws tend to be highly intelligent but it manifests differently. Some Ravenclaws have a brain for maths and science while others for politics and economics and others for arts and music and history. Ravenclaws tend to be witty which is why their common room passwords are answers to riddles, and they can have a sharp tongue and very dry sense of humor. John Oliver is definitely a Ravenclaw. Ravenclaws are very observant and good at seeing things from different perspectives which allows them to see when a system is broken and point out the flaws. Ravenclaws can get easily frustrated though because their brilliance and unique ways of looking at things often don’t make sense to others. They can struggle to express their thoughts and feelings because while it makes perfect sense in their heads, it sounds like a bunch of chaotic nonsense to normal people. Ravenclaws often can come across as cold, patronizing, or snobbish because they get annoyed when people can’t keep up with their brains and get annoyed with stupidity. For example the characature of Mark Zuckerburg in The Social Network. Ravenclaws like learning for the sake of learning, and can get easily distracted. They might forget to do their homework because they got distracted by an article on baboon mating behaviors or started getting lost on Wikipedia clinking on link after link until 2 am. Ravenclaws are the most likely to have insomnia and likely to be depressed. Many Ravenclaws tend to be introverted and inward and quietly observe the world around them a bit like Luna Lovegood. They can appear heartless and analytical but usually are just slow to trust and open up. Ravenclaws are very independent and prize individuality and originality. They often don’t give a fuck what people think of them but the down side is that they can find themselves lonely and struggle to make friends because of their ecclectic tastes. Ravenclaws are often creative types and think outside the box and come up with unique solutions to problems, but they can often over complicate things. You can count on a Ravenclaw to have great taste in music, books, and art. Ravenclaw is a very complex house that is hard to label because the only thing tying students together is the loose overarching umbrella of being intelligent. Whom they are as people however is very different from student to student.

Reminder that today is the 2nd anniversary Of Leelah Alcorn’s death. She was a transgender girl who took her own life after coming out as trans to unsupportive parents who refused to see her as anything other than male, even going as far as to send her to conversion therapy.  

“My death needs to mean something. My death needs to be counted in the number of transgender people who commit suicide this year. I want someone to look at that number and say “that’s fucked up” and fix it. Fix society. Please.” ~Leelah Alcorn.

Please don’t forget about her. Please don’t forget that we still have a long way until trans people can be out and loved unconditionally by their parents. Don’t forget about the dozens and dozens and dozens of trans people who have been murdered or have taken their own life since 2014.Please don’t forget. Rest in power Leelah.
