us, the audience, who are starting the podcast with episode one — we missed that story the first time you lived it. the first time you told it.

so, tell us again.

tell us how you met each other, tell us about your job. tell us the the destruction that no one but you survived, tell us about the way it shaped you. tell us all the hidden depths of the mongoose — tell us about your friends, the two lovers who cheated death together. tell us how you grew closer, throughout all of this.

tell us about the person who saw all of existence, who glimpsed the meaning of it all. tell us about the restless souls, the dissatisfaction — and how you reached out to that person at the center of it. tell us about a kingdom of robots. tell us, maybe don't admit it quite yet, but show us: the three of you growing closer still.

tell us a story about a time loop in a time loop in a time loop. where the apocalypse never ends, but your death never sticks. tell us how it affected you — for your actions to have no consequence, until they did. tell us how you'd do anything to stop the cataclysm, to break the loop, and tell us how for that, you were judged. tell us how you did good recklessly.

and tell us about the twins, tell us about the liches, about what you're willing to sacrifice. tell us how you leapt into danger to save a friend. tell us how you let yourself be saved. tell us everything you've finally had time to (re)-learn: how to care for each other and be cared for. tell us how you learnt to trust. tell us how, finally, you remember the mistakes you made last time.

we, the audience, missed that story the first time you told it. we need you to tell it again — but this time, this one special time, you'll have a shot at a better ending.

so tell us this story about time loops. tell us this story about stories.

revisiting the balance finale and I am completely fascinated by davenport immediately concluding that they need to leave on the starblaster and continue to the next cycle. that’s so wild. it asks you to confront the fact that, even though the stolen century was only a few episodes, it covers 100 times more time than the rest of the podcast. davenport is ready for these last ten years to be just an incident in a long list of incidents. he’s ready for another 100 years, however long it takes to figure out a better plan. the fact that it could bring lup back! the fact that if lucretia won’t agree, it’s better to kill her and talk about it next cycle if need be! the fact that none of them could stay even if they wanted to. the fact that davenport of all of them is the most willing to let the world burn. would he have waited to try and get the light from lucretia? would taako? imagine what the first moments of them reforming in a new planar system would be. holy istus i can’t stop thinking about it.

I've just started listening to the Welcome To Night Vale podcast, and I'm pretty sure that everyone in Night Vale only hates Desert Bluffs because they're the normal version of Night Vale.

I do not have the time nor the willingness to relive 14 years of Catholic school to write this but I can’t stop thinking about this one extract from the deluxe transcripts, the one for Desecrated Host. I know they’re not strictly canon, but we get some of Jon’s Thoughts On Religion here which keep rattling around in my brain. They’re mostly funny, calling crucifixes judgemental or saying he isn’t a fan of incense, but there’s one that sticks out. It’s when Father Burroughs is talking about how Father Singh listed all of his sins from childhood, and Jon comments that “Hm. Young sins can cut the deepest.”

Which! First of all! Wild thing to write down in your little blue biro on what is supposed to be a work document! But that feels like it has layers, intention or meaning behind it because no one just says that off the cuff. From both canon and the transcript notes he seems more jaded with religion now, or at least Christianity, but I can’t help but think of a young Jon, 8 years old and feeling like he has blood on his hands that somehow no one else can see. Like he’s gotten away with murder and it weighs so heavily on him he wishes he’d be caught, just to let up on the pressure of knowing at every moment that that should’ve been him. Sure, he hated that bully, but he didn’t want him dead and is this his fault? Did he wish somewhere deep down for this, a sick and twisted thing coming true that he’d desperately take back? In the books he read when the villain was vanquished the hero celebrated, but he just feels this terrifying ache in his chest, and wonders if this is just what happens to people who surround him. 

So he sits at the back of the church when his grandmother takes him on Sundays, and silently begs forgiveness. It’s not even that he’s thinking about some higher power fear of justice from above. He’d take that if it absolved him of something, repentance and atonement. He just wants to stop feeling like he did something wrong.
