“Our notions about happiness entrap us. We forget that they are just ideas. Our idea of happiness can prevent us from actually being happy. We fail to see the opportunity for joy that is right in front of us when we are caught in a belief that happiness should take a particular form.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh

Medication Helps Me Be a Better Witch
I might be preaching to the choir some on this one, but many people still believe that mental medications dampen your spiritual connection/power. I have pretty severe combined-type ADHD and a mood disorder called cyclothymia. Here's how my craft has changed after being put on medication, including oh-so-scary mood stabilizers:
I haven't had a panic attack in months. I still feel genuine happiness and sadness, but it's within a healthy range so that I don't flip out in either direction. This helps me think things through a lot more rationally than I could before.
I have a lot better discernment. Because I have a better grip on reality, it's a lot easier to tell when something is genuine vs. wishful desperation.
I'm not shredding my wallet from impulse-buying witchy tools or supplies I like the look of but will never actually use.
I can get moving. Executive dysfunction sucks and stopped me from doing a lot of spells, meditations, etc. I'm still developing discipline, but it's a lot easier to follow through now. I also don't leave offerings rotting on the table for days anymore.
That frantic urge to rush is curbed, so I'm more content slowly building strong skills in the basics instead of taking on too much at once.
My interests have kind of shifted. As I've worked on myself, I've noticed I used some aspects of the craft as coping mechanisms, and they no longer serve me like they used to. That's fine, and I can be comfortable shedding them without fear or guilt.
All those snoody wellness tricks actually help some now. Nothing is worse than the "Go outside! Have you tried yoga??" people. (You ever just wanted to mug somebody?) You can't go outside if you're issues are keeping you paralyzed. With some of the pressure alleviated. I can actually do yoga, sit outside, take showers, etc. more easily. It's not a miracle cure, but it feels nice.
Remember to take your meds today!

I think the fast paced society we live in currently has brainwashed me into thinking i can upgrade myself and my life just as fast as when i restart my computer or phone. I have forgotten the natural cycles of life… how the moon takes her time to be full or how the crops take their time to grow their fruits.

I love how the search function on this site is absolute garbage. I can look up a post word for word and I will NEVER find it

I’m very excited for my latest craft experiment, where I rhythmically slap sale rank oil paint onto a canvas and I see how long it takes to dry so that I can finally touch the paint textures I stare at so longingly in museums. 12 hours in, still wet. I am beginning to think this might take longer than I thought which you can imagine is quite a burden, as I am absolutely horned up to rub this paint.

I feel like the line between “fluffy uwu self care” and “get your shit together self care” is thinner than people seem to think. Like, sitting in a quiet space with a book and maybe some twinkly fairy lights gives me the spoons to go call my damn doctor like I’ve been meaning to. Bath bombs or shower steamers make me feel content and/or sparkly, which gives me confidence to go out in public. (Plus, I bathed.) I dye my hair funky colors so if I feel like people are staring at me I can say it’s at that instead of whatever my anxiety wants it to be.
The two are not mutually exclusive, is what I’m getting at, and I never see that mentioned, just either “self care is being nice to yourself” or “self care is kicking yourself in the ass to function for a few hours”. Kick yourself in the ass with niceness.
