Home time :(
Finally after nearly 6 months its time to return to blighty. Having absolutely fallen in love with holland and this charming, calm and humorous country it will be a difficult change going back to normal.

Being done with university has been delightful! This is a park/ lake called kralingse bos in the north of rotterdam, it is a really great big park where you can bbq, swim, cycle, chill and even have a night time camp fire on the fake beach. Rotterdams answer to California living. In the last couple of weeks i have spent about half my life here.

“F#*king Brugge!!” the quote will be taken from the classic film in brugge. I met up there with my brothers for a boozy weekend. as its so close to rotterdam its well worth a visit. It is..... i think ...... the prettiest place i have ever been, but maybe thats just the cheep belgian beers talking. It was a bit annoyingly touristy but it was still an amazing place. If i had to recommend it to anyone i would recommend going in winter. I can imagine it is much less busy and it is the type of place that i think would just be really beautiful in long crisp nights all lit up.

ooops i have a couple of weeks pictures missing as i have managed to lose my phone :( not great timing, but at least it has gotten very much to the stage where i know my way around the city and i can arrange any outings and meeting people over facebook prior to leaving the house

the final bit of work for the year was too imagine yourself as an illustrator in 2030 and create a poster about it. I cant say this the most exciting bit of work i have done but it was definitely an intresting and helpful experience making you actually consider what you want to be doing in 13 years, as an illustrator with a fairly broad range of possibilities it was actually very difficult to decide what to do hence the range of icons that i ended up with

the final quarter was made up of lots of little projects, they were all quite simple but made you really concentrate on getting work out quickly and pushed people to work on a consistent ‘style’ something they hate back home but its nice to get a contrast. to be fair i did about the opposite and tried making different work for most of it, here is a website design that i made for one of them, its not a functioning website at all just a bit of handy photoshop

summers here.....pretty much. its just about started to get a bit warm, warm enough to visit the beech. i decided to cycle there, it is a nice easy cycle but its pretty sweaty in the warm weather. everyone else took the train and by the time they all faffed around i actually beat them there. also a well earned beer by the time i got there

The Gruffalo is here! well actually the illustrator is. we had a talk today from the illustrator of the Gruffalo, a lovely German man who actually studied in bath, so we actually managed to talk about Bristol and Bath which was very nice and quite strange. we than made out own Gruffalos for him (above is mine). It was a really nice experience that was set up for us that i found it quite inspiring.

bloody pigeons!!!!!! when a couple of pigeons made a nest on our balcony a few weeks ago, we thought ‘oh thats nice’, and then when a couple of eggs appeared we all went ‘awwwwww baby pigeons’ in reality it awful. pigeons make a horrible mess, by the time we got rid of them they were full sized and had completely caked our entire balcony in poo.

Going on an erasmus is all about new experiences, in life, work and everything. this was a great example for me of mixing the two, one friend i have made is into his graffiti, so me and him found out where we could legally go and spray paint. there is a wall up in the north east in a park that is there to be decorated over and over. it was a great new experience and taught me something from an artistic view.

FEYENOORD!!!! went to see Feyenoord vs Gronigen, 2-0 win to Feyenoord, top of the league, great atmosphere here, with drinking and smoking allowed in your seats its a fair bit different from the atmospheres found in english football grounds (still not the same as bramall lane). highly reccomended, but definately wear some warm clothes

Jenever or Genever, they can call it both, im a bit confused to be honest but im 90% sure its the same drink. this is the main spirit of holland, get it in its white form it is fairly awful to be honest, but get the aged dark one and it can be a delight. keep your eyes peeled for this one and your in for a treat.

I went to see the white lies in utrecht, utrecht has a great array of live arenas and good bands, if live music is what you want check out utrecht, and its only a 40 min train journey.
by this point i have used so many trains, if i had actually managed to get an OV personal card and upload a 40% discount i would have been so much better off, i would make this a priority.

This is in Ajax’s stadium, but dont worry i am no traitor, this is watching an international friendly between Holland and Italy. it was a great stadium and a good atmosphere before hand, but as far as football matches go it was awful, ah well thats what you can expect from international friendlies in the last quarter of the season.

same as england, spring means rain!!!!! the temperatures improving now but also that long cycle to university is getting a bit more unpleasant, i could recommend either getting a full set of waterproofs or taking a change of clothes with you.
