Gally x Reader Chapter 35: The end

Y/N'S POV

I felt a cool salty breeze blow over my face making me groan. I wearily opened my eyes to see I was lying in a wooden hut. I grunted in pain as I got up from the bed. I pulled up my shirt to see bandages around my stomach. I slipped on the shoes which were next to the bed and lifted the thin veil over the entrance. I walked out to see a sandy shore ahead of me. So this was the safe haven everyone was talking about.

"You jerk!"I turned my head to see a bunch of kids messing around. Looking on, I saw a small settlement with people walking around or talking with one another. I stumbled as I walked around, watching in wonder while people worked with some stopping to watch me passing by. Looking in front of me, I saw Thomas, Frypan and Minho approaching me. I waved at them before Thomas pulled me into a hug.

"Thank god you woke up"His voice was muffled as he hugged me tightly.

"How long was I asleep?"I asked when he let me go, only for me to be pulled into more hugs from Frypan and Minho.

"Almost two weeks"Frypan replied.

"Please don't ever run in front of bullets again"Minho half-joked.

"I can't make any promises"I chuckled as they rolled their eyes"So, where's Gally?"I asked them, my heart pounding, dreading any more bad news.

"He's fine"Thomas assured me"He's just resting for the first time since we got here"

"He hasn't been resting?"I questioned.

"He wouldn't leave your side"Minho said softly"Wouldn't sleep, wouldn't eat. He wouldn't even shower. I'm surprised his smell alone didn't wake you up"I smiled at that before looking down. I saw the guys look at each other before Thomas took my arm.

"Come on, I want to show you something"I waved to Minho and Frypan as Thomas led me to a center area that had a huge rock in front of it with dozens of names carved into it. I ran my fingers over the names: Teresa, Winston, Chuck, Alby and.....Newt. I paused at his name, staring at it.

"I miss him Tommy"I said quietly.

"I miss him too _______"He put his arm around my shoulders"Gally said he found you clenching this"He opened his hand to reveal the tubular pendant which was now open"I found some letters inside"I looked up at Thomas as I picked up the pendant.

"What did they say?"

"I found one addressed to me and one for you"He pointed to the paper curled inside"Don't worry, I didn't read yours. Whatever Newt wrote, it isn't for me to know"He smiled softly at me"I want you to the keep the pendant. I have my letter, it's enough for me"He kissed my forehead and patted my shoulder before walking away.

I made my way to a cliff side just beyond the huts and sat down. I took a deep breath then with shaky hands, I pulled out the letter and read it.

Dear _______,

I don't know when I last wrote down something this important. Not since before the maze, I suppose. But I feel you need to read this because I know you're probably shutting everyone out like you do when things begin to wear down on you. But I can't let you do that, love. I can't let you waste away just because you believe I'm gone. I'm not, I promise.

I won't relay when or how I got infected but I've had it long enough to accept my fate. I'm not scared of dying but I am scared of forgetting those I love. Every night before I sleep, I've been saying their names over and over. Alby, Winston, Chuck. It reminds me of what we used to take for granted back in the glade; the sun shining over a new day, the wild yells of bonfire night and you.

I always hoped despite the fact you always said you loved us all equally, that perhaps you felt something more for me as I have always felt for you. Alas, your heart wasn't mine to take, it was made for Gally. I want you to be happy, you deserve it, whether it's with Gally or without but I don't want you to waste your future because it's not just your future, it's ours. As long as you're living your life, I'm not gone. So I need you to live again, I know what you and Gally have is special, don't let it fade away. Thank you for showing me how to live. Goodbye my love Newt x

GALLY'S POV

I made my way to the med hut, grumbling as I remembered Minho and Frypan shoving me out despite my protests, while Thomas blocked the entrance.

FLASHBACK

"I need to be there when she wakes up!"I struggled against them.

"Gally, you smell worse than a sewer. She's going to faint when she smells you, especially if you're sitting right next to her"Minho groaned as he pulled me further away from the hut.

"You need a shower man!"I ripped my arm out of their grasp as Frypan panted.

"I'll shower when I know she's okay!"I ran back to Thomas"Out of my way Thomas"

"No Gally. This is for your own good"He tackled me, knocking me over"She'll be fine for a couple of minutes while you shower and eat"I stopped struggling as I fell back against the sand, weak and exhausted.

"She was shot right in front of me, how can I leave her alone anymore?"I said, staring up at the sky.

"She's not alone, Gally. We're finally safe"Minho helped me sit up."And besides, _______ doesn't need protection, she needs common sense not to dive head first into danger"I chuckled at this and stood up.

"Fine. I'll shower but I'm eating here"They nodded in agreement and I glanced back to the hut as we walked away"She's going to be okay"

FLASHBACK

I pushed past the veil and my heart dropped when I saw the empty bed. I turned around, sprinting to where Thomas was standing, staring out onto the sea.

"She's gone!"I grabbed him by the shoulders, my words coming out jumbled due to my panic"I looked in the hut and she-she is just gone. Thom-"

"Gally! Breathe!"He pushed me off him"_______ is fine. She woke up while you were resting. She's right over there"He pointed to a small ridge overlooking the sea where a figure was seated.

"Right okay"I calmed down, breathing deeply"Thanks"I waved him away as I made my way to the ridge. As I approached, I felt a sense of deja vu when I saw her shoulders shaking as she stared at the horizon. Just like before, I felt I should walk away but she turned to me before I could.

"Gally"Her voice was hoarse and her normally bright _____ eyes were dull and rimmed red.

"Hey _______"I awkwardly sat down next to her while she wiped away her tears. I noticed the tubular pendant around her neck and the tear stained letter in her hands, with Newt's distinct handwriting. I looked away, unsure what to say"How are you feeling?"

"Physically? Fine"She answered"Mentally? Like shit"She scoffed"How have you been? I heard you wouldn't leave me alone"She looked at me with soft smile.

"Yeah, well it was my fault you got hurt"I muttered, my cheeks turning red"I should have seen that bullet coming"

"Gally, no"She sat closer to me, shaking her head"It was my stupidity that got me hurt and you know what"She looked down, slowly interlocking her fingers with mine before looking back at me"I would take a bullet for you every day of my life"

"What about Newt?"I found myself blurting and I wanted to punch my brain as her eyes flashed with pain while she removed her hand from mine"It's just I know he had feelings for you and you clearly felt something back"I rambled.

"And you know this how?"She asked me, her gaze intense.

"Oh come off it _______"I scoffed"You weren't exactly hiding it, what with the constant hand holding and lovesick glances"My fists curling while I spat this out"I've known from the start that you weren't really mine to love. I shouldn't have come back, I should have died-"I was cut off when she kissed me suddenly, pulling away before I fully registered what happened.

"I forgot just how dim you can be"She gasped, holding onto my shirt"Gally, hear me out and don't interrupt alright?"I nodded, still speechless"Yes, I cared for Newt more differently than I cared for the others and yes maybe if you hadn't come back, something might have happened between us"I opened my mouth but she held up her finger"But I also know that seeing you again was the day my soul came alive once more. Newt knew this and because he loved me, he knew I would only be truly happy with you. You have and always will be the world for me. I love you Gally"She finished softly.

"I'm sorry for all the hurt I've put you through sweetheart"I cupped her face gently"I always hoped I would find you alive and we could start over again. That things could be different."

"Well, this is our chance, my love"She held her hand over mine, smiling"I don't ever want to be apart from you again Gally"

"I'll never let that happen _______. I promise"I smiled. We slowly leaned in and kissed properly. I felt my heart soar as I pulled her closer, savouring her natural taste of sweetness, a taste which couldn't be found anywhere else. After months without her, I was dying to have more but I pulled away with reluctance. Her eyes remained closed for a second before she opened them with slight confusion.

"Is something wrong?"She asked, her eyebrows knitting in confusion.

"Everything's fine"I run my thumb across her cheek"I just want to savour our time together"She blushed at that and slid her arms around my chest, crawling into my lap as we faced the sea.

"I like the sound of that"She smiled as I held her close, placing her head on my shoulder. I kissed her forehead and slipped my hand into hers.

"Our forever starts today"

Gally x Reader Chapter 34: Limbo

Y/N'S POV

"What the bloody hell are you doing 'ere?"I opened my eyes to see Newt looking down at me. He looked normal, his face was clean shaven and his eyes were their regular dark brown.

"Newt!"I leapt up into his arms as he laughed and swung me around"But wait...how is this possible?"I asked him when he put me down"Am I dead too?"

"Well, you did jump in front of a gun"He shook his head at me"Again"

"The bullet was going to kill Gally"I said quietly, looking away"I couldn't let him die too"

"And what about your life _______?"He gently spoke"You really think Gally wants a life without you?"

"Gally deserves better than me, Newt"

"Perhaps"I looked at him as he shrugged"But he wants you because he loves you"I sighed at his words, sitting down on white ground. I looked around to see white nothingness while Newt sat beside me.

"What is this place?"

"I'm not sure"

"I mean is this where we go when we die? It's a bit of a let down if I'm honest"I muttered making Newt chuckle.

"You're not dead, not yet at least"He said"And yes before you ask, I am dead"I closed my mouth with a snap at his words.

"So you're just a figment of my hallucinations while I lie in limbo"I muttered.

"And what's wrong with that? It gives me a chance to see you again"This made me smile at him as he brushed my hair back behind my ear"Gally truly is the luckiest slinthead in the world because he has your love"

"You have my love too Newt"I slipped my hand into his as I said this but he shook his head.

"Not the way Gally does. I knew a long time before you revealed it that you loved him and I hate to say it but I despised him for it"He chuckled"I always thought, man he's got to be just phenomenal in bed for _______ to put up with his shit, plus I'm clearly way better looking" I laughed loudly as he said this making him wiggle his eyebrows"So you agree I'm better looking?"

"I'm not answering that you twat" I giggled

"I know the real answer anyway"He grinned"Ah who knows, maybe I'll get lucky in the next life and get your love before he does"We sat in silence for a while, just holding hands.

"I can't stay here can I?" I sighed.

"Do you want to?"Newt raised his eyebrow.

"I don't know. I'm scared I'll forget all this ever happened when I wake up"

"You don't have to remember everything to know it happened love"

"But if I leave, I'll never see you again"I sniffed, my tears starting to fall down my cheeks.

"_______, I won't truly leave you. You know that" He ran his thumb across my cheeks, wiping away my tears"You're a strong person _______, now I need you to be strong for everyone okay?"

"Of course Newt"I hugged him tightly, burying myself in his chest as he kissed the top of my head. I looked up at him, taking him in for the last time. He brushed away the stray hairs from my face as he held it in his hands before softly kissing my forehead.

"I love you _______"

Gally x Reader Chapter 33: Goodbye

Y/N'S POV

"Okay we need to get outta here now"Gally grabbed the bag which he had loaded with serum vials and shut the vault door"You stay close to me and _______. Stick together" He handed the bag to the oldest looking kid he saw"You guard this with your life. You understand?"He nodded quickly.

"Let's go"I nodded, slipping on my mask and we opened the door, standing ready for soldiers. We made our way to the parking lot, sticking to the shadows and ducking as we saw soldiers running by"Stay low!"I urged as Gally pulled out his radio.

"Brenda, where are you? We're here"He said before a bus screeched in front of us. We loaded the kids onto the bus, keeping an eye out for the enemy.

"Wait, where's Thomas?"Brenda asked as the kids got on.

Gally and I looked at each other with concern then back at her"We were hoping he was with you"She began to get down but Gally stopped her"Wait! You and ______ stay here with the kids. I'll find him. Just wait for us"

"I'm coming with you"I replied. He sighed and put on his mask.

"We're not going anywhere"Brenda assured us as we ran off. We ran for the top floor lab when all of a sudden Gally pulled me into a pillar. We saw 3 soldiers running for the outer fountain, one of them yelling that the suspects had the test subject. Looking at one another, we realised they were probably talking about Minho, Thomas and Newt. We ran behind them, blending in.

"Don't even think about it"They yelled as Thomas reached for his gun"Get on your knees with your hands in the air"We turned and shot at the soldiers before they could make a move. They lay twitching as we ran towards the guys, pulling off our masks and making Minho gasp.

"Gally?"

"Minho"Gally nodded, looking back at the window they had just crashed through"You guys are nuts"

"We'll explain later"I grinned as we ran. We ducked, almost squatting as we ran to avoid the spotlights, finally hiding behind some bushels and trees.

"Well, they're definitely pissed"Gally panted as we caught our breath.

"How far are the tunnels?"Thomas asked.

"Uh, maybe 12 blocks from here"Gally guessed. I felt Newt wheezing beside me before breaking out into a violent cough"We can make it"

"Newt, how are you feeling?"Minho asked.

"Terrible"Newt groaned"It's good to see you though"He weakly smiled, patting Minho's shoulder.

"Here, take this off. It should lighten the load on your chest"I pulled off the vest, avoiding looking at the paling Newt. Minho met my eyes and I gestured for him to talk to Thomas as I tried to distract Newt.

"I don't think this is quite the place for this behavior, _______"Newt chuckled before coughing. I shook my head at him, blushing as he tried to grinned through his pain.

"Come on, we've just got to reach Brenda"Thomas came and helped me lift him up. Newt stumbled, grunting as we kept him steady. I saw Minho look back at Gally with suspicion.

"Why are you helping us, Gally?"He asked"I put a spear through your chest"

"Yeah"He looked at me as he answered Minho"Nobody's perfect"Just then a huge explosion went off in the distance making us turn and stare as debris exploded"We're supposed to take down WICKD, not the whole damn city"

"Gally, come on"I pulled his arm, forcing him to look away and run. Thomas and I helped Newt along as Gally and Minho kept check in front of us.

"Shit! Stay low"We hid behind a plant display, away from the view of the police barricade.

"What are they waiting for?"Minho whispered just as an explosion boomed behind us causing a rush of an angry crowd. We took advantage of the chaos and ran to hide in an abandoned shop.

"Brenda, are you there?"Thomas shouted into his radio.

"Thomas, I'm here"Came the crackled reply. There was another explosion, blowing me into Newt who grunted.

"Shit! You okay?"I frantically got off him.

"Relax, I'm fine love"He gasped, rubbing his arm.

"Gally, how much further?"I turned to him, my eyes stinging.

"Not far but we have to keep moving"He replied as I took Newt's arm again. We continued our journey, hiding behind trucks and buildings as fighting ensued"Alright.Newt, we're almost there"He encouraged, looking back at us.

"Just leave me"Newt muttered as we hobbled along.

"Never"I said through gritted teeth. We ducked down as an exploding car flew past us followed by an angry crowd and helicopters.

"Shit! It's them, we gotta go"Thomas turned back to Newt.

"Go without me"He spluttered, blood leaking out of his mouth"You should just-"He launched into a coughing fit, wheezing as I wiped the blood.

"Minho"Thomas said"You gotta run ahead, grab the serum and get back to us as soon as you can"Minho looked at him, worriedly"Minho go"

"He's right. I can cover"Gally added.

"_______, go-go with him"Newt wheezed.

"I'm not leaving you Newt"I told him fiercely.

"Forever the stubborn one"He gasped before clenching Minho's arm"Thank you Minho"

"Hey, you just hang on"Minho patted his shoulder before running off. Thomas watched them run through while I turned back to Newt. He was breathing heavily, black veins covering his face and his eyes were constantly dilating before constricting.

"Newt! Newt!"I shook him to get his attention.

"Hey! Hey Newt!"Thomas shouted"We're gonna try this, okay?"

"No! No!"Newt struggled ripping open his jacket. He tore off the tubular pendant he wore, holding it up to my face"Look, you gotta take this"

"We gotta get you up now"I tried to lift him.

"No just take it!"He screamed at me. I stopped and placed my hand around his"Please"He breathed harshly"Please, _______ (nickname) please. I need you both to have this"He took Thomas' hand and placed it with mine. I nodded then Newt dropped his hands, his breaths ragged as I put the pendant in the chest pocket of my shirt.

"Newt, you need to give everything you've got okay? We can make this"Newt nodded as Thomas gestured for me to grab his other arm. Grunting with effort, we dragged Newt to tunnels as bombs and bullets flew past us. We entered the broken doors of the station"We're almost there, Newt. Just stay with me, come on!"Thomas panted.

"Newt, no no. Hey!"I gasped as Newt gagged and fell onto the ground. His breathing was rapid but Thomas and I grabbed his arms and legs, trying to pull him along. We didn't make it far before we collapsed.

"Thomas?"Teresa's voice came on the PA system"Can you hear me? I need you to listen to me. I know you have no reason to trust me but I need you to come back. Thomas, you can save Newt"I looked at Thomas in shock as we both slowly stood up.

"There's still time for him. There's a reason Brenda isn't sick anymore. It's your blood. Do you understand? She isn't sick because you cured her"I felt my blood run cold at Teresa's words"She doesn't have to be the only one. All you have to do is come back and this will all finally be over. Please. Just come back to me. I know you'll do the right thing"

The lights turned off all around us with just two of the high beams faced our way. I looked back to see Newt standing up, only it wasn't Newt. He turned towards us, his face a mess of black veins, his eyes dilated and a stream of black liquid poured out of his mouth.

"Newt?"I whispered before Newt growled and tackled me"Newt? Newt, it's us. It's Thomas and _______!"I pushed him backwards, making him heave.

"Kill me!"He panted, his eyes constricting as he fought the flare within him.

"Newt I'm here"Thomas reached for him and Newt crawled on top of him, choking him"Newt please"He relaxed before reaching for Thomas' gun. He held it up to his head before I smacked it out of his hand, making him howl in anger. He pulled out his knife and we fought as he tried to stab us with it. Thomas punched him in the face and he turned to lunge at me. I quickly grabbed his arm and shoved the knife into his chest as he pulled me close.

"I'm sorry Newt"I whispered as we fell to the ground in an embrace. I held him in my arms as he lay gasping.

"Thank you _______"He stroked my cheek with a bloodied hand as I felt tears pouring down my face. I watched the life ebb away from his now blackened eyes while Thomas fell to his knees beside me. I heard the pattering of feet but I ignored them as I held Newt in my arms.

Wiping away the blood from his face, I softly kissed Newt's forehead as I felt Thomas pick up something then leave. I closed his eyes with my hand then laid him carefully back on the ground. I finally looked up to Minho, Brenda, Frypan and.....Gally. I ran towards Gally with a sprint, almost knocking him over as I wrapped my arms around his chest, my tears flowing. His arms tightened around me, stroking my hair. We stayed there for a few moments, before I heard a bomb explode just outside.

"Guys, we have to go"Gally shouted over the explosion. He lifted my head and wiped my tears with his thumb"_______ we need to get back to chopper, okay?"I nodded and he gestured for the others to follow. We started making our way back when we ran into some rioters.

"There's the Immunes"One of them yelled before aiming his gun at Gally and firing a shot.

"NO!"I screamed and jumped in front of him, feeling my body ripple as the bullet landed in my lower abdomen. I felt myself fall into Gally's arms looking up at him while the others fired back.

"SHIT! No! No!"Gally frantically pressed his hands on my wound. "______ stay with me. We can fix you up"He shouted over the bullets. I lifted a hand and pressed it against his warm cheek, holding his face. Perhaps it was due to the life leaving my body or maybe I was just delirious but I smiled up at him"Please _______, I can't lose you again"He begged, placing a bloodied hand over mine.

"My captain Gally"I whispered before my world went black.

Gally x Reader Chapter 32: The kidnap

Y/N's POV "Hey"I glanced up to see Newt approaching me as I fiddled with my switchblade.

"Hi"He sat down next to me, with a sigh"Are they back yet?"

"Not yet"He rested his arms on his knees"You alright love?"He gently asked.

"Yeah sure I'm fine"I mumbled back, turning the knife over in my hands.

"_______, talk to me. What's got you upset?"He nudged my shoulder with his, making me look up at him.

"It's just.....this whole situation with Gally I guess"I softly sighed"I believed Gally was dead, that the man I love died in the maze because my Gally would never have done those horrible things"I sadly smiled as I thought of our time together in the maze"But seeing him here alive.....I don't know how to feel"I muttered. I didn't mention the fact that I was ready to cry with desparation when I thought of Newt's condition.

"You'll get through this" Newt replied, running a hand through his hair as I watched him, my heart hurting at the thought of not being able to cure Newt. I must have been staring intensely because he shook a hand in front of my face, grinning"Hello, Earth to _______"

"Huh? Sorry I was just-"

"________, really you don't need to worry about me"He placed one hand over my fidgeting fingers and his other hand stroked my cheek"I'll be fine, okay?"He smiled and I gave a weak one in reply as we heard grunting. We jumped up to see Gally and Thomas placing a blindfolded Teresa in a chair. I gave Gally a lookover, meeting his gaze which made me blush and look away as Newt pulled the blindfold off Teresa.

"Gally?"She gasped, looking around at us.

"Here's how this is gonna go"He placed a piece of folded paper down and crossed his arms"We're gonna ask you some questions and you're gonna tell us exactly what we need to know"He pulled a chair out and dragged it in front of her as he spoke"We'll start off simple. Where's Minho?"

"You guys don't seriously think-"She was interrupted as Gally slammed the chair down in front of her.

"Don't look at him"Gally blocked her view of Thomas"Why are you looking at him? Look at me. He's not gonna help you"Her gaze faltered while Gally continued"Now we know you have Minho in the building. Where?"

"He's with the others in holding. Sublevel 3"

"How many others?"Newt asked.

"28"

We looked back at Jorge and Brenda who placed a card down with a smirk"I can make that work"

"No. No, you guys don't understand"Teresa pleaded"The whole level's restricted. You can't get in without a thumbprint ID"

"That's why you're gonna come with us"Thomas leaned forward.

"Well, I don't know. We don't necessarily need her. Right?"Gally shrugged, throwing his chair backwards"Not all of her. We just need her finger"

"Gally, back off"I spoke, watching as Teresa's eyes widened when Gally approached her with a scalpel.

"What are you squeamish?"He turned to me"I guarantee you she's done a lot worse to Minho"

"That's not the plan. Back off"Thomas stood up in front of Gally, taking the scalpel off him.

"It won't make a difference"She spoke confidently"Do whatever you want to me. You still won't get through the front door. The sensors will pick you up the-"

"We know. We're tagged"Thomas knelt down next to her"Property of WICKD. You're gonna help us with that too"He held up the scapel as she glanced around. Gally dragged the rest of the medical table over and she began first on Thomas while the rest of us waited by the other table.

"Here see if these fit"Newt handed out some clean clothes to us while I looked back to where Thomas and Teresa were stiffly talking, my gaze naturally sliding to Gally's clothed back"You should talk to him, instead of oogling him"I turned to see Newt holding out some clothes, his smile not quite reaching his eyes.

"There's nothing to talk about"I took the clothes off him, looking away.

"Oh so we're all just imagining the tension between the two of you that's so thick, you could cut it with a knife"He chuckled as I blushed.

"I'll cut you with a knife"I muttered, throwing his shirt at his grinning face. I hid behind a pillar and began changing into the darker but clean clothes. I was just about to pull on my shirt when I saw Gally appear"OI!"I yelped, covering my chest as he covered his eyes.

"Shit! I'm so sorry _______"I saw his face turn red under his fingers.

"It's fine"I quickly pulled on my shirt"It's not like you haven't seen it before"I mumbled as he lowered his fingers. We looked at one another and he opened his mouth before closing it again.

"Be careful, it's a dangerous mission"He said, swallowing slightly"I'll be there if you need me"

"I've survived this far without you. What difference does it make?"I replied, not breaking my stare and not forgetting his hurtful remark from earlier. I saw his eyes harden and he was about to say something when Newt came around the corner.

"Everything okay? I heard you yelp"He looked between Gally and I.

"It's fine"I pushed past Gally when I heard Thomas shout.

"Do you really expect me to?"He glared at Teresa"You made your choice"

"Everything okay over here?"I asked.

"Yeah, we're done"

~SOME TIME LATER~

"Frypan? We're in"I said into my radio as Gally worked on the power circuits"How are you doing?"

"Yeah, I'm getting there"His voice buzzed"Tell Minho 'Hi' for me"

"Hang in there buddy"I said before turning to see Thomas who was receiving a status update from Brenda.

"Alright, let's go"Gally loaded up his bomb then shut the power box. I fell in line with Gally as Teresa was kept in the middle and Thomas and Newt ran in front. We opened the door to the security room, shooting the soldiers down with tasers. I pointed to a sealed door where I saw movement inside. Newt checked inside before opening the door and pulling off his mask.

"Come on, let's go"He gestured for the Immunes to get out while we opened the rest of the doors.

"Come on, you guys are okay"I held the door open as they cautiously came out of the cells.

"The vault. How do I get in?"Gally held a gun to the soldier's neck.

"You can't"He panted. Gally ignored him, bringing his bag of explosives to the vault door.

"Guys, this might take some time"He called out.

"Shit. He's not here"Thomas checked the empty cells before turning to Teresa"Where is he?"

She checked the computer base as we stripped the soldiers for the ammo"Somebody's moved him up to the medical wing. Thomas, that's on the other side of the building"

"Okay, take me to him. Right now"He grabbed Teresa's arm.

"Alright I'm coming with you"Newt loaded his gun.

"Newt, no you're not"Thomas picked up his helmet"You have to stay here, wait with Gally for the serum"

"You can't do this on your own Thomas. Minho comes first, remember?"I said, coming to Newt's defense"I'll stay with Gally, you guys bring Minho back"I gave Newt a quick hug and kissed his cheek before staring at him worriedly, ignoring the burning gaze of Gally's eyes"Stay safe"He nodded at me before slipping on his mask.

"Just go! We're wasting time, we'll meet you out back"Gally yelled out.

"Alright let's go"Thomas nodded.

"Hey Greenie"They turned back to Gally"Good luck"

Gally x Reader Chapter 31: Moving on

Y/N'S POV

"No there's gotta be another way"I sighed as Thomas shook his head.

"Like what?"Gally argued"You've seen the building.She's our only way in"

"You really think she's gonna help us?"

"I don't plan on asking for her permission"

"Am I missing something here?"Brenda sighed"This is the same girl who betrayed us, correct? What's going on?" Thomas sighed and leaned against the table.

"What? Afraid your little girlfriend's gonna get hurt?"Newt broke the silence in a harsh tone making us all turn to him"Hmm? Because this has obviously never been just about rescuing Minho. Has it?"

"Newt!"I interjected but Thomas turned to him.

"Wait, what are you talking about?"

"Teresa"Newt spat, standing up"She's the only reason that Minho's even missing in the first place"He slowly pushed Thomas back against a wall"Now we finally have an opportunity to get him back. And what? You don't want to because of her? Because deep down inside, you still care about her, don't you? Just admit it"Newt stared Thomas dead in the eyes.

"Newt, I....."Thomas began but Newt shoved him against the wall.

"Don't lie to me!"I jumped up towards them as Newt yelled"Don't lie to me!"He began to shake him.

"That's enough Newt!"I shouted, grabbing his arm. He turned to me and I shook my head"Calm down"He took deep breaths before turning back to Thomas.

"I'm sorry"Newt muttered then rushed out of the room. We all looked at one another in concern at Newt's outburst.

"Come on Thomas"I made my way to the roof where I knew Newt had been spending his time recently. We opened the door to find him and slowly made our way to the edge where he was seated.

"Sorry about that. Back there"He looked up as we approached. I sat down next to him as Thomas stood"I guess I can't hide this anymore"He pulled up his sleeve to reveal his arm which was covered in black veins.

"Newt....."I reached out my hand before I could stop myself, to touch it but Newt grabbed my wrist with his hand. Looking up at him, I felt my eyes stinging as he gave a straight smile, shaking his head no.

"Why didn't you tell us?"Thomas looked down, his voice scratchy.

"Didn't think it would make any difference"Newt sighed"All I know is that WICKD must have put me in that maze for a reason. Maybe it was literally just so they could tell the difference between immunes like you and people like me"

"You know we can still fix this, Newt"I told him"Okay? We can and we will"

"Don't worry about me. This is about Minho"He let go of my wrist but kept a hold of my hand, running over my knuckles with his thumb"Now he needs us. So if there is even the slightest chance that we can save him, we can get him out of there, then we need to take that"He looked up at Thomas"No matter what the cost"

GALLY'S POV

I watched as Thomas and ______ left the room to go talk to Newt. In all my time of knowing Newt, I had never seen him burst out like that. Something wasn't right with him. It hadn't slipped my sight that clearly _______ and Newt had grown closer either. It filled me with anger and sadness whenever I saw them together. I suppose that's what it would have been like if I had never stolen her love first. I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw her in the streets, heart soaring as she looked at me. I thought she recognised me even through the mask and I was ready to jump down when I saw Newt sliding his arm around her and whispering in her ear, making her look away.

Rubbing my jaw where she had socked me, I shook my head with a dark chuckle as I remembered all those nights when I would wake up screaming and drenched in sweat after having nightmares that one day I would find _______ again but she wouldn't be herself, she'd be.....a crank. It still made my heart clench just to think about it. Yet somehow, seeing her like this hurt just as badly.

"She didn't forget about you, you know"I was taken out of my thoughts by Frypan.

"What?"I cleared my throat, looking at him and realising we were alone in the room.

"_______. She didn't just move on from your....death like it was no big deal"

"Oh yeah, I'm sure it was really heart wrenching for her to cuddle up to Newt"I scoffed, tidying papers, avoiding Frypan's gaze.

"Gally!"I looked to see him glaring at me as I looked at him in shock. What was going on? First Newt, now Frypan? What's next? Thomas giving me a hug?

"I'm serious Gally"Frypan shook his head"You weren't there when she would spend her nights lying awake because when she did sleep, all she saw was your death in her nightmares! You didn't see her begin to waste away because she felt like she was the cause of your death and the guilt was destroying her!" Frypan hung his head as my heart began to break over what I was hearing"It was only through Newt and Thomas, that after weeks, did she began to live again. We were finally getting the old _______ back and yes, maybe she does feel something more for Newt because he manages to make her smile through all the shit she's put up with but don't you dare say she moved on without a thought to you"He ran a hand over his head and looked at me once more"_______ never stopped loving you Gally. Anyone with eyes can see how much you still mean to her. Don't let a good love like hers be kept from you because of your pride man"He patted my shoulder and left the room. I sighed, rubbing my hand over my face, just as I heard Thomas, _______ and Newt coming back down.

"We're doing the plan" Thomas said to me. I nodded, barely registering what he said as I noticed _______ kept glancing at Newt, chewing on the inside of her cheek which was something she did when she was faced with a problem, she couldn't fix easily.

"I'll prep gear for the four of us"I tore my eyes away from her and back to Thomas.

"No, it's just you and me. Newt and _______ are staying here"

"Hell no, I'm not letting you do this alone, Thomas" _______ outraged.

"But he's not exactly alone is he?" I icily pointed out"And besides someone needs to keep Newt's lips warm" I muttered under my breath as I saw her look at me, with hurt, assuring me she heard what I said.

"Fine...just be careful"She turned then looked back"I don't want to lose either of you"I stiffly nodded, unable to meet her gaze. She walked away as Newt and Thomas turned to me.

"Haven't you broken her heart enough?"Thomas muttered to me.

"I don't want to hear this from either of you. I already got the sob story from Frypan"I said through gritted teeth as I put on my gear.

"No listen here, you slinthead"Newt jabbed his finger in my chest"None of us know what it is about you that _______ loves so much but your death destroyed her. Even after all you've done to hurt her, she still loves you. You don't realise just how lucky you are to have someone who loves you unconditionally the way she does, most of us can merely dream"He looked away, shaking his head with a mock smile before turning back to me"If you actually care about her as she believes you do, you'll want to make things right with her. So instead of making stupid comments, I'd suggest growing some balls and actually talking to her"Newt growled and left.

Y/N'S POV

"Gally?"I croaked out, my voice disappearing at once. I just stared at him, not believing what I was seeing. Gally was standing there, his hair was buzzed short and he looked thinner than when I saw him last but...it was Gally. I found myself walking towards him, as if in a trance.

"_______?"Thomas reached out for me but I stopped right in front of Gally, my hand just about to brush his cheek.

"Hey ___-"Gally began, his eyes softening as the corners of his lips turned up before I threw a punch to his face making him fall over. I climbed on top of him, continuing to punch him.

"_______!"I felt Newt and Thomas grabbing onto me while Gally gestured for his soldiers to stay back."Stop _______! Wait!"

"He killed Chuck"I let out a shaky breath as Newt held my fist back.

"Yeah, I know. I remember. We were there too all right?"Thomas panted as he held my arm back.

"But you should also remember that he was stung and half out of his mind. Just calm down, okay?"Newt put his hand on my other shoulder, helping me up as I scowled.

"Well I can't say that's what I've missed about you"Gally said twisting his jaw"Besides I kinda had that coming. Anybody else? Fry? Newt? Thomas?"He held his arms open in a mock gesture.

"That'll do for now"Thomas muttered darkly as he held onto my arm.

"Do you know this guy?"Jorge glanced between us.

"He was an old friend"Frypan replied.

"How is this possible?"Newt asked"We watched you die"

"No, you left me to die"I felt myself shake at his words"And if we hadn't found you when we did, you'd be dead right now"He shook his head"What the hell are you doing here?"

"Minho"I choked out, not able to continue or look him in the eyes.

"WICKD has him here"Newt continued, giving me quick glance"We're looking for a way in"

"I can help with that"Gally nodded"Follow me"

"I'm not going anywhere with you"Thomas shook his head.

"Suit yourself"Gally shrugged"But I can get you through those walls"Thomas sighed and we began to follow Gally who told us what happened.

"After the maze, I got picked up by a group headed to the city. They realized I was immune, patched me up and they brought me here to Lawrence"We made our way through their base"This group's been at war with WICKD ever since they took control of the city. But WICKD can't hide behind those walls forever. The day's gonna come and they're gonna pay for what they've done"

Gally slowed down, stopping then turning back to us"Listen, uh, he doesn't get a lot of visitors. So let me do the talking, alright? And try not to stare"We looked at each other before following him. We were brought in front of an area filled with books and plants with a man standing in a patch of sunlight.

"Gally, glad to see you made it back"The man who was Lawrence, clipped at a plant, half-turned towards us"Jasper told me what happened"

"It was a slaughter"Gally held onto his vest and I couldn't help but be reminded of him holding onto his builder overalls from what seemed years ago"There's nothing we could do against those guns"

"No, but they can only poke the hornet's nest so long before they get stung"Lawrence brought a rose to shadowed face and gave it a sniff"Now, who are these people? Why are they here?"

"We need to get into WICKD"Thomas stepped forward"Gally said you can get us through the walls"

"Gally should know better than to make promises that he can't keep"Gally looked down as Lawrence sighed"Besides that wall is only half your problem. Getting inside WICKD is impossible"Lawrence held the rail of an IV tube in one hand as he faced us.

"There might be a way now"Gally said"But it doesn't work without..."He glanced at me before continuing"Thomas"

"Is that so?"Lawrence stepped out of the sun making me hold back a gasp. His eyes were sunken, his nose was just a hole and one side of his face has torn with black veins and holes. He looked more like a skull than a face"Do you know what I am Thomas? I am a business man which means that I don't take unnecessary risks. Why should I trust you?"

"Cause I can help you"Thomas replied"You see, if you can get me through those walls, I can get you what you need"

"What is it that you think I need?"Lawrence leaned against his IV.

"Time. Every last drop"

Lawrence scoffed and looked at his IV stand"Is that what I need?"

"WICKD has something we both want"

"I'll tell you what"Lawrence held his gaze on Thomas"Three can go for now. The rest can stay down here with me. Just a little insurance to make sure you find your way back"We looked at one another then back at Thomas"We have a deal?"Lawrence and Thomas shook hands"Gally, show him the way"Gally lead us to a tunnel and removed its lid.

"Newt? _______? You ready?"Thomas looked at us and we nodded. I saw Gally open his mouth before shaking his head and lowering down a ladder. As I tied up my shoelaces, I saw Newt staring at his hands.

"You okay?"I quietly asked him, making him look up as I held a hand out towards him. He took it with a quick nod and I turned to see Gally looking at me before looking down. We climbed in, finding ourselves in some sort of damp sewer.

"Ugh"Newt groaned"This is gross"I chuckled at this as we turned on our flashlights.

"Jesus, it reeks"I pinned my nose with my shirt"Yeah, I'm loving this"I saw Gally's lips twitch at the corners as he turned on the generator.

"Stay with me, we got a ways to go"He led us through the straight tunnel, our feet splashing through the dirty water. We found ourselves in front of a maintenance door and Gally held up his hand. He peered out then gave us the all clear to move through. We tried to look causal as he led us up to an overview of the city on a station.

"This is a long way from the glade"Newt said, looking out onto the glittering buildings.

"Fifteen minutes to mandatory curfew"A woman's voice said over the various speakers.

"Yeah, we better get off these streets"Gally looked around"And I know it's hard but act like you've seen it before"We made our way through the city, sticking to the shadows"They've definitely upped security. I'm guessing you shanks have something to do with that"He looked around before leading us away. We came to a wall and Gally gave Newt a leg up before turning to me. Ignoring my heart which was yelling at me that I could make the leap up by myself, I placed my hand on his shoulder, sending goosebumps up my arm. I saw Newt's head appear above me and he reached out a hand which I grabbed and pulled myself up. After thanking him, I turned back to help Thomas who leaped up, ignoring the leg up a scowling Gally was offering. Gally shrugged then climbed up himself. We ran along the outer ridges over the wall, turning into a narrow doorway and up a flight of stairs.

"There it is"Gally pointed to the centermost building"If WICKD'S got Minho, then that's where they'll be keeping him"He attached a heavy telescope while still speaking"Lawrence has been trying to find a way in for years. Place is crawling with soldiers. They got surveillance everywhere and scanners on every floor"

"Sounds like a bloody fortress"Newt sighed.

"Yeah, I thought you said you had a way in"I added.

"I might"Gally glanced at me then Thomas then back out at the city.

"You might?"Thomas said, his tone tense"What the hell do you mean 'might'?"

"Take a look"Gally sighed and gestured to the telescope. Thomas looked in the eyepiece then his face dropped"I said I had a way in. I didn't say you were gonna like it"

Y/N'S POV

We bolted through the tunnel, firing shots to keep the cranks at bay. We slowed down when we saw a mass of them gathering ahead of us. No matter what way we turned, we were surrounded.

"Thomas, what now?"I shouted over our firing bullets. Just then a large truck came roaring and Brenda popped overhead, shooting at the Cranks. We jumped in and Jorge drove away, running the cranks down.

"I'm impressed"Jorge said as we exited the tunnel"You guys, almost lasted a whole day"Brenda turned away to shake her head at us.

"I'm sorry"Thomas panted"I didn't wanna bring you guys into this"

"I think what he's actually trying to say is thanks for saving us"Frypan interjected.

"You're welcome"Brenda rolled her eyes.

"Hey, don't get your hopes up"Jorge looked at us through the rearview mirror"That checkpoint back there, that was the city's last defense. If that was overrun, chances are the city is too"

"Yeah, unless they figured out some other way to keep the Cranks out"I pointed out my window at something that had caught my eye making Jorge stop the truck with a jerk. We scrambled out to look at the shiny metallic city lying just ahead of us.

"Funny"Newt began"Spent three years trapped behind walls trying to break out and now we wanna break back in"

"Yeah, it's hilarous"Frypan scoffed.

"Jorge, how do we get to it?"Thomas squinted at the city.

"Don't look at me, hermano"Jorge took off his gloves"Those walls are new. I guess that's WICKD's answer for everything"

"Well, we ain't gonna figure it out from up here"Brenda ushered us all back into the truck.

"You really think he's in there?"I asked Thomas.

"Guess we'll have to find out"Thomas sighed.

"You know she's gonna be there too"Newt added making Thomas look at him.

"Yeah I know"

~LATER IN THE CITY~

"Keep close to me _____"Newt muttered, keeping his hand on the small of my back"We need to be careful"

"We'll be okay Newt"I smiled softly at him as we made out way through the bustling streets. It still weirded me out seeing this many people in one place.

"This place has really gone through hell"Jorge caught up to Thomas.

"We just gotta stay together"Thomas directed.

"We are the voice of the voiceless!"We turned to see a man yelling in a loud speaker while a truck drove him through the streets"They hide behind their walls, thinking they can keep the cure for themselves while they watch the rest of us wither and rot!"One of the masked soldiers stared down at me as they passed by and I found my gaze locked onto the blank mask. I don't know why but looking at that soldier made a shiver run through me"But there are more of us than are of them"People cheered as they drove away, still yelling into the loudspeaker. I stared after the soldier who was still looking in my direction but I was pulled away by Newt who pointed upwards to the helicopters.

"We need to keep moving"I nodded, holding onto his hand and we made our way by sticking to more covered streets. We found our way to where dozens of people were crowded yelling to be let in.

"That's it. That's our way in"Thomas pointed ahead to where the people were banging on the huge gated walls.

"Thomas!"Jorge yelled over the roar of the crowd as we pushed our way through them"This is not what you're looking for.All these people trying to find their way in, you think you're gonna find something they can't?"

"We came this far. I'm not turning back now"Thomas yelled back. I clenched Newt's hand tightly, making our way through the angry crowd to the front of the gate. I tried to ignore the hairs that have been rising since I saw the soldier and focused on not getting lost in the crowd.

"What the hell did we get ourselves into?"Frypan said as Brenda grabbed his hand to keep us together.

"Get out of my way! Get out!"Jorge yelled, making room for us at the front. People were hurling garbage and rocks at the gates. I saw Newt keep glancing backwards with a confused look.

"Newt?"I squeezed his hand to get his attention"What is it?"He didn't answer, instead looking to his left. I followed his gaze to see a man holding a gun and wearing a gas mask, walking in stride with us. Newt tightened his grip on my hand and we walked faster towards Frypan and Brenda.

"Hey guys, we gotta go now"Newt grabbed Jorge and Thomas"Look"He pointed behind us to where the soldier from the truck was shoving his way through the crowd to us. We looked around us to see gas masked soldiers coming from all directions. I placed my hand on my gun but suddenly there was a deep metallic creaking, silencing everyone. We saw large cannon guns being charged and aimed our way making everyone run away shouting.

"Let's go! Let's go!"I grabbed Thomas and we ran as the first gun fired, exploding the ground in front of us. Dust erupted as they shot all around us, people screaming for their lives"Down here!"I led us down a stone alley where we ducked from their line of fire. We kept running only to run straight into the masked soldiers. I saw them grab Newt, Frypan and Jorge shoving them into a van.

"Newt!"I screamed, trying to reach him before the soldier from the truck grabbed me and threw me into a van with him as well as Thomas and Brenda. They closed the doors and drove away as we struggled. Finally we gave up and just watched them with suspicion. I stared down the soldier from the truck, daring him to make a move, he just stared back at me through that blank mask. They pulled into a gated junkyard, stopping the van before opening the doors.

"Get out!"They shouted and we complied. We saw the other van screech and stop, its brakes squealing with effort. It was shaking as we heard Jorge yelling from inside. The doors opened and a soldier fell out with a grunt.

"Where is she, you son of a bitch?"Jorge jumped down and began punching the guy.

"Shit! Hey! Wait!"We ran over and pulled Jorge off the man. The soldiers separated us and I gave Newt a look over to make sure he wasn't hurt while he did the same to me. We both nodded, holding our hands up as guns were aimed our way.

"Everybody relax, we're all on the same side here"The soldier from the truck said.

"What do you mean the same side? Who the hell are you?"I shouted at him. He looked around at us, resting his face at me before pulling off his mask and making my heart stop.

"Hey _______"

"Gally?"

Gally x Reader Chapter 28: Wrong carriage

Y/N'S POV

-THE GANG HAVE BEEN TAKING OVER TRAINS WHICH HAVE BEEN TRANSPORTING IMMUNES, HOPING TO RESCUE MINHO-

"Newt!"We looked to see Vince waving at us from where we were hiding behind the rocks.

"All right, come on. Let's go!"I gestured for the others to follow Newt and I. As we approached the carriages, Thomas pointed at one he thought held the Immunes.

"This one!"Newt took off his backpack and began craving the carriage open, with his welder. We watched as a WICKD helicopter landed in front of Brenda and Jorge, attempting to take them prisoner before being overpowered by Frypan's squad.

"Newt, how're you doing?"I yelled down to him as Thomas and I prepped to take the carraiges away.

"Don't rush me"His response was muffled through his mask just as bullets starting flying.

"Shit!"We ducked down"Keep going, I'll cover you"I told Thomas before jumping down and firing back.

"Newt, get up here"Thomas shouted at him.

"Almost there"He shouted back as he finally broke the seal. Vince jumped down and gestured for Newt and I to get up to roof. We nodded, climbing the ladder before firing shots at the WICKD swat team.

"Where the hell are they?"Newt looked around for our chopper just as Jorge flew in, cutting it close as usual.

"We're here boys!"

"There's too many of them!"I yelled at the others to get up to the roof of the carriage as Thomas and Newt attached the carriage to chopper. Once it was attached, we yelled at them to go while we kept the soldiers at bay.

"Vince get up here!"Newt yelled down. Vince ran, quickly leaping onto the ladder and crawling just as we drove away, cheering at our victory. Once we landed, we smashed the door open and checked the carriage, our hope falling as we scanned the terrified faces. Thomas turned back to us, his face hard.

"He's not here"

~SOME TIME LATER~

"Took you guys long enough to rescue us"Aris chuckled as I walked in and sat down next to Newt who looked me over with a quick nod.

"It's good to see you too, bud"Thomas replied"So what happened?"

"Fought back or well tried to"

"You're lucky you found us at all"Sonya added"They had us on the move a lot. It felt like something big was happening"

"Do you have any idea where they were heading?"Newt questioned.

"All I know is, they kept talking about a city"Aris scrunched his face, trying to remember. We all looked at each other with concern.

"I didn't think there were any cities left"Harriet wondered.

"That's because there aren't"Brenda crossed her arms"Not still standing anyway"

"Okay, wait. What about Minho?"I turned back to Sonya and Aris"Why wasn't he on the train?"

"I'm sorry _______"Sonya and Aris looked at each other"He was. There was a second carriage" We thanked Aris and Sonya and headed back to our conference room. I made some coffee, handing it out as Thomas slammed a map onto the table.

"There, that's it"He pointed to circular dome on the map"It's a few hundred miles. Based on the railways, everything that Aris told us, that's gotta be where they're headed. That's where they're taking Minho"

"We should take everyone who can fight"I continued"Follow the roads where we can. We can make it back within a week"

"A week?"Vince raised his eyebrows"It took us six months to get here. We got over a hundred kids here now. We can't just hang out here forever after what we just pulled. You wanna wander off to some random point on the map?"He gestured to it"You don't even know what's there"

"I do"Jorge interuppted"It's been a few years but I've been there. The last City"He strolled up to the table"That's what WICKD called it. It was their whole base of operations"He looked around at us"If that city is still standing, that's the last place you wanna go, hermana"He told me"That's the lion's den"

"It's nothing we haven't done before"I rejected.

"Yeah, with months of planning"Vince pointed out"Reliable information, the element of surprise, none of which we have now"

"Vince we've thought this through"Thomas argued"Would you just hear us out?"

"The last time we went off half-cocked"Vince said over him"I lost everything. You remember that?"He paused, rubbing his hand off his face"Look, I know it's Minho, All right? But you can't ask me to put those kids on the line for one man. I won't do it"We were silenced by static on a radio we had picked up from WICKD.

"Searching the grid now"A guard's voice said before some warbled voices were muttered"A is completed. Scanning B-sector now" Instantly, we ran to cut our power, going outside to see the Bergs flying in the distance.

~LATER THAT NIGHT~

"There he goes"I pointed out Thomas' figure as we saw him going into the kitchen"Why does he insist on carrying burdens alone?"I muttered to Newt next me while we watched Thomas pack his bag.

"I wonder where he gets it from"Newt glanced at me sideways with a smile making me scowl. Thomas climbed the stairs, closing his bag just as Newt turned on the lamp next to him.

"Where do you think you're going then?"Newt crossed his arms making Thomas look up.

"_______, Newt..."Thomas sighed.

"Don't be a twat about it"Newt approached him"We're already in"He threw Thomas's bag to me and I threw it into the back of the jeep"Come on"

"No. No, not this time"Thomas shook his head"Look, even if we find Minho, there's no guarantee we make it back from this"

"Well, you'll need all the help you can get then, won't you?"I said as Newt opened the driver's door where Frypan was sitting. Frypan leaned forward with a grin as we all looked at Thomas expectantly.

"Well, we started this together"Newt pointed out"May as well end it that way too"

"Okay"Thomas finally nodded"Let's go get him back"Thomas got in next to Frypan while Newt and I clambered in back. We drove most of the way in silence, each of us in our own thoughts.

"That looks fun"I pointed out the overhead sign as we approached, which read MANDATORY INFECTION CHECK: 2 miles ahead, making Frypan shake his head with a grin. We drove in past all the abandoned cards and trailers, stopping the jeep to get out and look into the dark and long tunnel which lay ahead.

"You want us to go in there?"Newt asked Thomas who consulted the map"I don't want to come off as too negative but if I was a Crank, that's exactly where I would be"

"Yeah, looks real cozy"I mumured, looking in on the map"But I don't think we have much of a choice. There isn't any other way in"

"All right but I get shotgun"Newt muttered as we climbed back in. We drove quietly and cautiously, using our flashlights to scan for any signs of movement. The tunnel was a maze of junk and rusting cars.

"Whoa! Whoa"Frypan stopped as we saw a lone figure standing a few feet in front of us, gagging and twitching.

"It's okay, it's just one"Thomas urged"So take it slow, go around him. We'll be fine"

"Take it slow"Frypan said to himself. Newt rolled up his window while Thomas and I leaned back in our seats. He looked out of his window and we jumped as we saw a woman standing there.

"Please"She was breathing heavily, looking at the figure ahead of us"Help me. Please"I jumped as my window thudded and I saw a bloodied man scratching at the glass.

"Please! Let me in"Suddenly we were surrounded on all sides by Cranks.

"Fry we gotta go!"I shook his shoulder to shake him. Frypan floored it, pushing most of them away but one was stuck to the window. He twisted the jeep around, trying to throw the Crank off, finally managing it by crashing into a ladder. We sped away, relief filling our veins. I turned back to the front and let out a yelp.

"Frypan watch out!"The jeep ran over a car and flipped throwing us all into each other. I quickly unbuckled myself and slid out through my window.

"Newt? Are you okay?"I pulled at his door but it wouldn't budge"Thomas help Fry!"I shouted as I lifted a crowbar to wrench the door open which finally worked.

"Thanks _______"He patted my shoulder as we grabbed our things. Thomas helped Frypan up but just then we heard the horrifying screech of the Cranks. Looking behind us, we saw a distant mass grow larger.

"Oh shit"

Gally x Reader Chapter 27: Lost

Y/N'S POV

I finished dressing and sat at a ridge overlooking the valley. Turning a small black circular stone over in my hand as I was lost in thoughts, I didn't hear Newt approach and sit next to me until he gave me a slight nudge. I looked up at him and he tilted his head slightly as if to ask"Are you okay?". I gave a shrug in reply as Minho and Frypan made their way to the ridge. We sat in silence which seemed given because no one had spoken since the 'revelation'.

There was a crunching of dry grass as Thomas made his way to a rock on my other side and he sat down with a soft sigh.

"I wish Alby could've seen this"Newt said looking out onto the valley.

"And Winston"Frypan nodded.

"And Chuck"Thomas added, clutching the small wood figure that Chuck had given him.

"And Gally" I thought to myself but didn't dare to say out loud.

"He'd be proud of you, you know, Tommy"I told him as he looked at me, nodding.

"Hey Aris!"Frypan shouted down to Aris who was sitting with Harriet and Sonya then upon seeing us, waved back"I kinda like that kid"He said with a smile.

"Yeah still don't trust him though"Minho squinted and muttered as we all chuckled.

"Hey where's Teresa?"Thomas asked.

"She went up there"Newt pointed to where Teresa was standing, staring out into the mountains. Thomas then made his way to her while the rest of us stayed where we were. I saw Newt blow on his hands to try warm them up in the cold wind. Our eyes met and I gave him a shy smile before covering his hands with mine, ignoring the heat I felt in my face.

"Unlike you idjits, I actually choose decent warm clothes with good pockets"He rolled his eyes, his cheeks pink but he didn't move his hands away as we watched nightfall. I was staring out onto the horizon when I noticed two lights which I originally thought were stars, were now getting bigger as well as a deep rumbling noise beginning. I pulled my hands away from Newt's and jumped up.

"_______? What's wrong?"He asked as Minho and Frypan turned to us. I just pointed to the horizon where the two helicopters were fast approaching.

"Shit!"We ran down the ridge just as the helicopters threw their first bomb. Panic ensued as WICKD swat teams landed and began firing tasers at everyone.

"Where's Thomas"Frypan asked as we threw ourselves behind some rusty barrels.

"Harriet! Ammo!"Vince yelled from a truck as he shot at the soldiers.

"Vince! Harriet!"Minho shouted, running towards them, the rest of us following behind"How can we help?"

"You need to cover us!"

"Hey! Do you know how to use this thing?"Vince shoved a gun into Minho's arms who nodded"Cover me! This fifty's our only chance!"Vince prepared his barrel gun as Harriet threw me a rifle and I took position opposite Minho to cover them. We aimed and fired to the best of our abilities. I saw one of the soldiers press something in his hand and I realised with a shiver, it was a shock bomb.

"Look out!"I grabbed Newt but my world went black before I could dive away. I woke up groggily as I was forced into a kneeling position between Minho and Newt. One of the soldiers grabbed my neck and scanned it before calling out "A-3" I saw Janson approach the soldiers and my blood boiled with rage. I was about to get up when I felt Newt grab my hand and violently shake his head.

"Now's not the time, _____"I scowled and slumped down.

"Where's Thomas?"Janson asked, looing around.

"Right here" We all turned to see Thomas being grabbed and brought before Janson who smirked.

"Thomas"Janson's smirk grew as he punched him in the gut, making him double over"Get him in line"He was forced down next to Minho"Okay, bring her in"Janson whispered to one of the men.

"Why didn't you run?"Minho panted to Thomas.

"I'm tired of running"He replied with a shake of his head. We watched as a third helicopter approached, blowing dust into our faces. It touched down and the cargo door opened, revealing the face of a woman who seemed like nothing more than nightmares before to me.

"Is this all of them"She asked Janson with a curt voice.

"Most of them. It'll be enough"He replied. She nodded and told him to start loading us in. As they grabbed people and shoving them into the helicopters, She gestured for Thomas and I to be brought before her.

"Hello Thomas, _______"She glanced at me with disgust before turning back to Thomas who stared at her with repulsion. The soldiers brought Teresa over and at first I felt relief she wasn't dead. This relief changed to anger when Ava pulled her close.

"I'm glad you're safe"

"What the hell"I tried to keep my voice level as Minho, Newt and Frypan stood up in shock.

"Wait, what's going on?"Newt furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"She's with them"Thomas replied, staring hard at her.

"Since when?"Minho turned to Thomas.

"Oh, Teresa's always had an evolved appreciation of the greater good"Janson said"Once we restored her memories, it was only a matter of time"

"I'm sorry"Teresa looked around at all of us as we stared at her in shock and disgust"I had no choice. This is the only way. We have to find a cure"

"She's right. This is all just a means to an end"Ava butted in"Both of you used to understand that"She turned back to Thomas and I"No matter what you think of me, I am not a monster. I am a doctor. I swore an oath to find a cure! No matter the cost"She sighed"I just need more time"

"More blood"Mary replied behind us.

"Hello, Mary. I hoped we'd meet again"Ava said softly"I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances"

"I'm sorry about a lot of things too. But not this. At least my conscience is clear"Mary shook her head.

"So is mine"Ava said before we heard a gunshot and Mary crumpled to the ground.

"Mary! Mary! Mary!"Vince clutched her as I looked back to see Janson holding the gun that killed her.

"Let's go Janson"Ava turned away.

"Sonya! Aris"Harriet yelled as they were grabbed. A soldier took Thomas who pulled out a detonator and hit in in the face with it.

"Everyone back!"Thomas yelled as we all made a circle around him"Let them go"

"Thomas, put it down"Janson said.

"Let 'em all go!"Thomas yelled.

"You know I can't do that!"Ava shouted.

"Thomas, please stop"Teresa pleaded"I made a deal with them. They promised we'd all be safe. All of us"She nodded at Ava who stared ahead at Thomas.

"And I'm supposed to trust you now?"

"It's true. It was her only condition"Ava explained.

"Shut up!"

"Everything can go back to the way it was. Thomas..."Ava stepped closer"Do you really want all them to die?"Thomas looked back at us.

"Listen to her, Thomas. Think about what you're doing"Janson inched closer. I made my way to Thomas as did Minho, Newt and Frypan, taking our place next to him.

"We're with you, Thomas"I said, keeping the fear and shaking out of my voice. Ava and her people began to step away"Do it Thomas. We're ready"

"We're not going back there"Thomas told Ava"It's the only way"He put his thumb on the detonation button. We all closed our eyes, bracing ourselves when we heard a truck horn blaring. We stared in shock as we saw Jorge shouting manically as he drove towards an empty helicopter, sending it crashing.

"Move!"At once, everyone split and run in all directions. I turned to see a soldier aiming his taser rifle at Thomas, yelling at him to drop his bomb.He pressed the button before throwing it at them as we all got down.

The bomb exploded as Ava was rushed into a helicopter. I was just getting up when I felt someone grab me and turn me over. I looked up to see Janson who punched me in the face before aiming his gun at me and I felt myself freeze as my blood ran cold.

"What a wast-"His sentence was cut off as I saw Newt shoot him in the shoulder. He groaned and aimed his gun at Newt. Just then, another shot was fired, almost hitting his ear, throwing him backwards. I looked up to see Brenda before grabbing onto Newt's hand and bolting away.

"Go on, get outta here!"Minho yelled, covering for us as we ran and ducked behind some cargo boxes. As Minho was reloading, one of the soldiers fired a taser bullet right in his chest. He kneeled over a crate, looking back at us.

"Minho!"Thomas ran towards him but Newt grabbed him back as bullets rained down"Minho!"He scrambled to get him as Minho was pulled away. Jorge dragged Thomas who was screaming and we ran to the ridge for safety, watching as WICKD took Minho away from us.

~THE NEXT MORNING~

We worked the rest of the night, clearing the camp and finding out what exactly our losses were. We worked mostly in silence, a dark heavy silence. I was shifting through boxes looking for more ammo when I heard someone approaching. I looked up to see Newt holding up some pellets.

"I found them scattered around. I don't know if they're worth anything but..."He didn't finish but just held his hand out.

"Thanks"I took them, looking down in my hand and Newt turned to go"Wait, Newt"He looked back as I approached him"Thank you, not just for the bullets, but for saving my life"

"You're welcome, _______. We suffered enough, losing you would have been too much for me to bear"His eyes softened as he wiped some grime off my cheek. I nodded shakily in reponse and looked away "Come on" We made our way to where everyone was seated.

"What do we do now?"Frypan asked.

"Well, we pick up what's left of us"Vince sighed"We stick to the plan. We get you kids to the safe haven"He stood warily"Then we start over, I guess"

"I'm not going with you"Thomas stated as he slung a bag over his shoulder.

"What?"

"I made a promise to Minho. I wouldn't leave him behind. I have to go after him"He replied. I looked at Newt and Frypan as we stood up.

"Hey kid, look around you"Vince gestured"WICKD just kicked our ass. You think about where you're headed"

"I'm not asking anyone to come with me"Thomas shrugged.

"Thomas, listen to me"Newt stepped towards him"I've known Minho for...well as long as I can remember. So if there was any way that we could help him, trust me, I would be up there standing next to you. This, what you're talking about, is impossible"

"More like suicide"Jorge added as he and Brenda came over.

"Maybe"Thomas admitted"But I know what I'm supposed to do now. It's not just about Minho. It's about all of us. It's about everyone WICKD's ever taken, everyone they will take. They'll never stop. They'll never stop so I'm gonna stop them. I'm gonna kill Ava Paige"

"I have to admit, I'd like some revenge"Harriet said.

"Well, that's a good speech kid"Vince sighed"So what's your plan?"We all looked up at Thomas who's eyes flashed.

"We burn it all down"

Gally x Reader Chapter 26: Right arm

~THE GANG HAVE MET WITH BRENDA AND JORGE AND ARE NOW HEADING TO FIND THE OUTPOST IN THE MOUNTAINS~

Y/N'S P.O.V

I stared out of the window, my thoughts drifting back to the party. The last of the drugs were out of my system but the effects were still there.

FLASHBACK

"Newt? Thomas?"I called out, spinning around"Minho? Frypan? Teresa?"Panic began to rise as a lump in my throat, the room is swimming in front of me and the swamp of people made me nauseous "Newt?!" I shouted over the blaring of the music.

"Y/N?"I spun around to see Gally standing in a doorway, the sunlight streaming in around him.

"Gally..."I smiled.

"Hey beautiful"I began to stumble towards him as his arms stretched out towards me, his face shadowed by the sunlight.

"I missed you so much Gally" I reached a hand out to him.

"Come to me _____. I'm waiting for you" As I approached, he began to fade.

"NO! Gally!!!"I ran towards him, tears streaming down my face"Come back!"  I felt my hand grip the railing before being pulled back by someone "Let go of me! Gally, he's waiting!"I struggled in the person's arms as they held me.

"_____! "I turned to see Newt, desperately holding onto me"Snap out of it! Gally's gone!"

"He's...He's gone?"I blinked as I stopped struggling"Gally is gone" I sniffed and felt tears filling my eyes.

"It's alright love"Newt ran his hand through my hair as I sobbed into his chest"It's going to be alright"

FLASHBACK

"_____?"I turned to see Newt staring at me in worry "Everything ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine"I gave him a small smile which he returned. The car came to a stop and we all got out. There was a pile of ransacked vehicles in front of us.

"Well, I guess we're on foot"Jorge said. We made our way through the cars, cautiously. All of a sudden, bullets came flying.

"Take cover!"We hid behind the cars as the bullets pinged past us.

"Hey is everyone okay out there? Thomas questioned as the bullets stopped.

"We're fine" I shouted back.

"Anyone know where those bloody shots came from?" Newt yelled. I saw Thomas peek over before quickly ducking down again as bullet just missed his head.

"What do we do?"I asked.

"Everybody!"Jorge said"Get set to sprint back to the truck! And hold your ears"We were just getting ready when we heard a gun cock behind us,

"I said drop it!" We turned to see 2 masked women holding rifles towards Jorge and Thomas.

"On your feet, let's go"Thomas and George stood up, rasing their arms"Back up"

"Easy"Jorge and Thomas made their way backwards towards Minho, Newt and I as we also raised our arms.

"You three, get up" As we stood huddled, the girl with braids stared at Aris before lowering her rifle"Aris?" She took off her bandanna and Aris stepped forward.

"Oh my god, Harriet?"

"My God. What the hell are you doing here?" She hugged him tightly

"Sonya"Aris hugged the other girl tightly too.

"Aris, you're lucky we didn't shoot your dumb ass" I shrugged at Frypan who looked at me in confusion and mouthed "What?"

"What's happening?"Minho asked.

"We were in the maze together"Aris explained. Harriet whistled before shouting the all clear. We looked around to see several figures in the mountains lower their guns.

"Back it up Joe!"Sonya shouted as she led us through the tunnel "We're taking them to base" We saw loads of heavy military jeeps parked around the entrance.

"Wait, so how did you guys get here?"Aris asked as we walked.

"The Right Arm got us out"I glanced at Thomas before catching up to Harriet.

"Wait, The Right Arm? Do you know where they are?" I questioned.

"Hop in" Harriet opened the door to a jeep in response. I held the door open for Newt and Frypan before following them in. We drove through the desert for 20 minutes for so, all the while my mind was racing with excitement and curiosity. Finally, it seemed we might be getting some answers. Newt seemed to realise the same thing as he squeezed my hand with a nervous smile. I gave him an equally nervous smile back. The car slowed down and we all got out. We stood shocked as we gazed out into the valley where dozens of people were working.

"They've been planning this over a year now" Harriet explained as we made our way down"This is all for us"

"You guys are lucky you found us when you did"Sonya continued"We're moving out at first light" She turned to a guy who hauling some boxes"Where's Vince" The man gestured to some area to the left and we continued in that direction.

"Who's Vince?" I asked.

"He's the one who decides if you get to stay"Harriet replied.

"I thought the Right Arm was supposed to be an army"Minho said, looking around.

"Yeah we were" A shaggy haired bearded man said as he came out of makeshift tent. Clearly this was Vince"This is all that's left of us"He stood in front of us, his hands in his pockets"A lot of good people died getting us this far. Who are they?"He turned to Harriet and Sonya who glanced back at us before responding.

"They're Immunes. Caught 'em coming up the mountain"

"Did you check 'em?"

"I know this guy, Aris"Harriet pointed at him"I trust him"

"Well I don't. Check 'em" Vince shook his head. I heard heavy breathing behind me and as I turned to look, one of the guys stepped closer.

"Hey Boss..."Suddenly Brenda collapsed with a heavy sigh.

"Brenda! Brenda!"Jorge rushed to her side"Brenda talk to me"He held her in his arms.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry"She gasped.

"What's going on with her?" Vince knelt down beside Jorge, his hand on his shoulder.

"I don't know. Brenda. Talk to me"

"What the hell?"Vince muttered as he lowered down Brenda's sock"Crank! We got a Crank!"He yelled, pulling out his gun and pointing it at Brenda.

"No!"Thomas and I jumped in front of Vince as the others were pushed away from Brenda

"Listen, okay?" I pleaded"This just happened, okay? She's not dangerous yet"

"You shouldn't have brought her here!"Vince yelled at us as two guys held the struggling Jorge"We let Cranks in here now, the safe haven doesn't last a week!"By now the entire camp was watching us.

"I understand, okay? I understand. Just listen. Please, okay? I told her that you could help. There's got to be something you can do" Thomas begged Vince.

"Yeah, there is" He said, lowering his gun"I can put her out of her misery"He turned his safety off and aimed again as Jorge screamed.

"Vince that's enough! Let him go."A woman yelled, silencing Jorge and making Vince scowl.

"She's infected, Doc. There's nothing we can do for her"Vince said as she approached.

"No, but they can"The woman smiled upon seeing Thomas and I "Hello _______ and Thomas"We glanced at each other then at the smiling woman who's voice sent goosebumps over my body.

"What?"Everyone turned to look between Thomas, the woman and I.

"You know us?"Thomas asked.

"Interesting"She nodded"Makes sense they'd put you in the maze"She made her way to Brenda"Though I must admit, I was worried they'd kill the two of you after what you did"

"What we did?"I stepped towards her cautiously.

"The first time we spoke, I was talking to _______ who told me she and Thomas couldn't take it anymore, watching their friends die one by one"She looked away at the ground before back at us"The last time we spoke, you gave me the coordinates of every WICKD compound, trial and lab"

"They were our source"Vince said, staring at us in shock.

"We couldn't have pulled all this off without them"She turned back to Brenda and Jorge"Take her to the tent. Get these guys some warm clothes"As they left, my gaze met with Newt who had some emotion I couldn't read in his eyes.

"Thomas, come with me please"The woman reached her hand out"I need some blood from you"Thomas looked back at me and I nodded that I would be okay so he left with her.

"Alright, you guys follow me"

Gally x Reader Chapter 25: The scorch

Y/N' S P.O.V

"Come on!" We bolted up towards the fences "Come on, go! Go! We'll lose them in the storm!" We slid behind a sandy bank and watched the soldiers ride along on motorcycles.

"Okay, everybody, go go go. Stay low! Stay low!"Thomas whispered as we crouched "Teresa, hang on. Stay together"

"I think we lost them"Minho yelled.

"Keep going guys!"

"Watch out! Where are we even going?"

"Come on, Aris. Let's go. Come on!"

"Over here!" I put my arm to my face to block the winds, spotting a glass building of some sort.

"Come on!"Teresa ran towards it.

"No Teresa don't!" I ran after her. She looked down into a gaping hole and slid down.

"Get down here!"I cautiously followed her with Minho following me.

"Can you hold this?"I nodded as Minho riffled through his bag for a flashlight and turned it on. He shone it around the room, checking for dangers "Where the hell are we?"

"We gotta go"Thomas gestured for us to keep moving "We-ve got-"

"No! Thomas stop!" Teresa shouted making us all turn to her "Tell me what's going on"Thomas sighed as we all huddled.

"It's WICKD. They lied to us. We never escaped. Me and Aris, we found bodies. Too many to count"

"What do you mean? Dead bodies?"Minho whispered in shock.

"No, but they weren't alive either. They had them strung up. With tubes coming out of them"I ran a hand over my face as he continued "They were...They were being drained. There's something inside of us that WICKD wants. Something in our blood. So we have to get as far away from them as possible"

"Okay"Newt sighs"So, what's the plan?"

"You do have a plan right?"I crossed my arms as Thomas shook his head slightly.

"Yeah, I don't know"

"Well, we followed you out here, Thomas, and now you're saying you have no idea where we're going or what we're doing" Newt told him, the shake in his voice evident.

"Wait, Janson said something about people hiding in the mountains"Aris spoke "Some kind of resistance or army"

"The Right Arm"Thomas said. For some reason that name sounded vaguely familiar,  "The Right Arm. If they're really against WICKD, maybe they can help us"

"People" Newt looked from Aris to Thomas"In the mountains? Mountain people? That's your plan?"

"It's the only chance we have" We were interrupted by Winston who called out.

"Hey guys, come check this out"We went over to where we was kneeling "Minho, gimme a light" We saw footprints in the sand "Someone's been down here"We cautiously walked down and peered into a run down shop door. Minho shone his flashlight in before pulling the door open. We carefully explored the area.

"Looks like people lived here"Minho held up a dusty shirt.

"Where are they now?"I wondered aloud, gazing around with a flashlight.

"Let's pack some of this stuff up"Thomas dusted off a hoodie and pulled it on "Anything you think you might need. We'll split up, see what else we can find. Meet back here" Newt threw him a flashlight before Minho, Thomas, Winston and  Aris left. I checked boxes for anything useful but found nada.

"Hey _____"I looked up as Newt approached me "I think you might need this"He handed me a switchblade that was quite similar to the one I lost in the Glade. I wiped the dust off before smiling back at him.

"Thanks Newt"He patted my shoulder as I heard Theresa gasp.

"You alright?"He called out to her.

"I'm fine"We heard her reply. I packed some clothes, a spare flashlight,a few empty water bottles and some sheets that could be used as bandages. I saw Frypan look over to where Teresa was pulling on a shirt.I rolled my eyes as Newt turned Frypan's face back to his bag with a grin.

"What?" We finished packing as the lights flickered on. I slipped the blade into my pocket and we walked out, meeting up with Winston and Aris.

"What's going on?" Winston's question was answered by Thomas and Minho's yelling.

"Run!"We saw them sprinting towards us following by growling creatures.

"Oh shit!"Newt exclaimed and we ran.

"Thomas, Minho, what the hell are those things?"I shouted as we darted up the broken escalators.

"I don't know, just keep going!" We turned onto the floor but halted as one charged towards us. Aris ran at at it with a bat, hitting it in the legs and knocking it over. It leaped at Teresa and Thomas, separating them from us as the others arrived behind us.

"Go around, we'll meet you there!"I nodded and climbed the other escalators. Thomas and Teresa came running down the line of shops as we climbed up.

"Come on!"We looked for an exit. I heard a crash behind me and saw one of them on top of Newt.

"Newt!"I ran to him and kicked the creature through the railing "Are you alright?"I helped him up.

"Yeah, thanks ____"He gasped.

"Through here! Let's go! They're coming!"We turned into a narrow passage way. Thomas pulled at a door to no avail.

"Just keep going!"Frypan yelled as the creatures came through.

"It's a dead end!"Minho groaned as we faced an empty wall. I banged on the chained door.

"Get us out of here Thomas!"Teresa cried out.

"This one!"I yelled, gesturing for help.

"I'll hold them back!"Winston fired at the creatures while we pushed against the door "Get that door open!"He hollered as the creatures came closer.

"Move!"Frypan made a running jump and burst the lock "Come on! It's open!" I grasped Winston's arm, running through before being yanked back as one of them got hold of him.

"Winston!"

"Help me!"We all grabbed him and pulled while Minho and Thomas tried to shut the door. He screamed as the creatures dug their claws into his stomach. We finally got a hold of him and Frypan helped him up.

"Go go!"Thomas shouted and we sprinted with him following moments later.

"Over there!"I pointed to a grove hidden underneath the rubble and we all slid under, switching off our flashlights, hardly daring to breathe.

~THE NEXT MORNING~

"Hey, hey! Get outta here!"I woke up to Thomas yelling. Groaning, I got up from where I was squashed between Minho and Frypan.

"Are they gone?"Newt asked as we got up.

"Yeah, I think we're safe for now" I grimaced and stretched, easing my bones awake.

"We should get moving"Winston let out a deep groan as he tried to move.

"Hey man"Frypan held a hand out to him "You okay?"Nodding, he got up. I handed him his bag with a soft smile.  We climbed up and saw the wasteland ahead of us. There were buildings in ruins, covered in overgrown yet dried out plants and sand. We began making our way through.

"What the hell happened to this place?"Frypan asked as we walked.

"I don't know"Newt replied"It doesn't look like anyone's been here in a long time"

"I hope the whole world's not like this"Aris added. I sighed in agreement.

"Whoa, whoa! Hang on, stop"I looked back to see Thomas at a stand still "Do you hear that?" The wind whistled as we heard the whirring of helicopter blades "Get down! Everybody hide! Hide! Hide!" We scrambled under a fallen block of cement, watching as 2 small planes and a large helicarrier passed by.

"They're never gonna stop looking for us, are they?" Minho said, his tone heavy. We climbed onwards, looking for an exit out of the city.

"A little further guys"We climbed a sand dune, panting as we reached the top. I saw the outline of mountains amongst the ruins of the city.

"Those mountains, that's gotta be it"I told them.

"That's where we're going"Thomas nodded.

"That's a long way off"Newt pointed out.

"Then we better get moving"I concluded. Just as we were about to continue, Winston fell down in a faint.

"Winston!" He was gasping for air as we crowded around him.

"He's hurt pretty bad"

"What do we do?"Teresa asked. Thomas stood up and stared into the distance before grabbing some sticks.

"______, have you got rope?"I dug through my bag and handed him the rope. I helped him make a makeshift bed for Winston, lining it with clothes, using his bag as a pillow. Aris and Teresa layed Winston down inside it.

"We'll take it in turns to bring him, alright?"We all nodded in agreement.

"I'll take the first turn"Frypan picked up one side.

"Me too"Minho grabbed the other handle. I picked Minho's bag up and strapped it to mine. We continued walking on towards the mountains.

"Hang in there Winston" We walked for what seemed hours until the winds began to get harsh, the sand blowing around, making us cough and wince even with our scarfs on.

"We gotta find shelter!"Thomas shouted, carrying Winston with Newt at the front and Minho and Frypan at the back.

"Follow me!"I put my arm in front of my face as we made our way to a pile of rocks and an over turned rusted car. We laid Winston down and got some rest, waiting for the wind to calm down. I gulped down my water, watching Thomas and Teresa talk.

"How's it looking?"Newt asked them.

"It's a little further"Thomas replied.

"That's not very convincing"I looked back at the feverish Winston and sighed deeply.

"It's going to be okay"Frypan's voice making me turn back. I swallowed and nodded. We sat in a comfortable silence until we heard a gunshot. We jumped, turning to see Winston holding a gun to his mouth.

"Hey! Guys, get down here!"I yelled to Teresa and Thomas while running to Winston.

"Winston, what are you doing man?"

"Give me that!"

"What's going on?"Thomas asked, rushing over.

"What happened?"

"I don't know"Frypan replied "He just woke up and grabbed the gun and then he tried to..._"

"Give it back, please"Winston was on all fours, panting and reaching out for the gun in Frypan's hand.

"Winston, are you okay?"I knelt beside him just before he retched onto the ground. He coughed before laying on his back, taking shaky breaths.

"It's growing..."He pulled up his shirt to reveal a blackened stomach covered in claw marks"...inside me" I bit my lip in worry as he shook his head "I'm not gonna make it. Please, please" He reached his arm out "Don't let me turn into one of those things" Frypan turned the gun over in his hand. We all stared at him then Newt took the gun from Frypan.

"Wait, Newt..."Thomas began. Newt walked to Winston, crouched beside him and placed the gun in his hand.

"Thank you"He whispered in a hoarse tone "Now, get out of here"

"Good-bye Winston"He got up and picked up his bag. Frypan patted his best friend's shoulder before turning away. I smiled softly at Winston to which he gave a weak one in return. I hugged Frypan tightly before we walked away. We had travelled a good distance before we heard a ringing gunshot. We stopped in our tracks once again being reminded of what freedom costs.

Gally x Reader Chapter 24: Free

Y/N'S P.O.V

"Jessica, Barry, Walt, Edgar, Samantha" Janson was calling out the names.

"I wanna know what's through that door" I heard Thomas mutter next to me.

"Aaron"

We all looked at him, before I shrugged at Newt.

"Now, we've been over this"He sighed "You said they were covered up, so you don't know what you saw"

"Dennis"

"It could've been anything under there"

"I know exactly what I saw. They were bodies"Thomas argued.

"Sally"

"Aris said they bring in a new batch every night"He lowered his voice as we all leaned a bit closer.

"Who the hell is Aris?"Minho asked.

"Henry, Tim"Thomas pointed over to the kid who was peering closely at a slice of orange.

"Well, I'm sold"I mutter making Newt chuckle.

"And last but not least, David" Janson finished "Thank you for your attention. Enjoy the rest of your evening"

"Okay, until we know anything for certain, we should just keep our heads down and try not to draw any attention to ourselves, all right?"Newt looked at Thomas who was staring at the door.

"Tommy..."I noticed the glint in his eye before he stood up and marched towards the door.

"What is he doing?"Newt asked.

"I think he's drawing attention to himself"I sighed as we watched him. He tried to get through a few times and got pulled away. The guard muttered something at him and Thomas turned away before trying to make a run for the door then being tackled. I quickly got up followed by the rest of them.

"What's your problem, man?" I grabbed Thomas' arm, attempting to pull him back as Janson came running "Why won't you let me see her?"

"Control your friend!"The guard yelled to me. I gave him a glare in return.

"What's happening here?" Janson got between the guard and Thomas "Thomas? I thought we could trust each other" He put a hand on his shoulder, looking around before leaning in"You know we're all on the same team here"

"Are we?"Thomas asked. Janson looked at him before dropping his hand.

"Get them to their bunks" We were grabbed and marched from the cafeteria.

"Get your asses in there! All of you!"I crashed into Newt as we were thrown into our room.

"What the hell was that about?"Minho questioned Thomas"You didn't really think they were just gonna let you through?"

"Nah, Of course I didn't"He pulled something out of his pocket. It was an ID card "I'm gonna find out what's on the other side of that door"

"Right"I crossed my arms as Newt sighed.

"Newt, ____, they're hiding something. Okay? These people are not who they say they are" He began to walk to his bed.

"No, Thomas, you don't know that!"Newt argued as we followed"The only thing we do know is that they helped rescue us from WICKD. They gave us new clothes. They gave us food. They gave us a proper bed. Some of us haven't had that in a long time"

"Yeah, but..."

"Some of us a lot longer than others"Newt let out a deep breath. All of a sudden the vent door was thrown open and Aris slid out from under Thomas' bed.

"Hey Thomas"

"What the..."

"You got it, didn't you?"He spoke over Frypan.

"Yeah, let's go"He held up the card"All right, look, maybe you guys are right. Maybe I'm just being paranoid"He got under his bed as we all crouched down "But I got to find out for sure. Just cover for me. I'll be back as soon as I can"He slid into the vent. I ran a hand through my hair and glanced at the door. That shank better be careful.

~LATER THAT EVENING~

"Winston..."I held my head in my hands at the guy who high fived a grinning Frypan.

"I'm serious _____!"I groaned and flopped back on my bed as they all smirked.

"It's a simple question really"Newt chuckled making me roll my eyes at him"Why Gally? No offense but there were other choices so what made you choose him?"

"This is not a slumber party"I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow at them "But since you all are such nosy shanks..."I sighed, feeling my cheeks getting warm "He made me feel safe and loved"

"I'm sure that's sweet and all but I think it was because you thought he was good in bed"My face went red hot making them cheer and laugh as I threw my pillow at Minho. We were interrupted by the vent skidding across the room and Thomas scrambling out followed by Aris.

"Thomas!"I ran to him and helped him up.

"We gotta go. We gotta go right now"He ran to the door and peered outside.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"What do you mean, 'We gotta go?''

"They're coming. Come on. We gotta go."He ran back to his bed "They're coming for us"He grabbed his sheets and tied them tightly around the door handles.

"Aris what happened in there?"I questioned him. He was staring at the ground in shock.

"Paige, she's still alive"

"Thomas, can you just calm down and talk to us"Newt told him as he frantically tied his sheets.

"She's still alive"

"Who's she? Teresa?"

"Ava"I felt my blood go cold.

"Ava?"

"Will you just turn around and talk to us?" I yelled at him.

"It's WICKD!"He shouted, finally turning around "It's still WICKD"He let go of the sheet and ran to his bed as we stared at him "It's always been WICKD" He grabbed his mattress and shoved it against the door.

"Thomas" I put my hand on the mattress making him turn around and look at me "What did you see?"

"I don't have time to explain right now"He let out a shaky breath "_____, please, we have to go"He looked at me with pleading eyes.

I glanced around at everyone's worried faces before turning back to Thomas "Lead the way"

~A LITTLE WHILE LATER~

"Come on, come on!"Thomas kept a lookout as we climbed out of the vent into an empty passage way "Okay, let's go!"

"You guys go ahead. There's something I gotta do"Aris waved at us, looking down the corridor for anyone.

"What are you talking about?"

"Trust me, it's important. You guys wanna get outta here, right? Just go"Aris climbed back into the vent.

"I'll go with him"Winston volunteered.

"Okay Winston, go! Go! Come on"Thomas nodded.

"Are you sure we can trust this kid?"Minho asked as we ran.

"You don't want to know where we'd be without him"Thomas replied. We turned a corner and ran into a doctor.

"What are you kids doing out?" She looked at us suspiciously. An alarm began to blare. I looked at Thomas then back at her.

"I'm sorry about this"I grabbed her arm and Thomas did the same "We need your help" We ran along the corridor heading to the med wing. As we turned the corner, we were faced with a guard.

"Freeze! Stay where you are!"He cocked his gun and shot at us. We turned back and ran.

"Why are they shooting at us?"Frypan yelled.

"I've spotted them! They're in L-3!"I turned back to see Minho staring at back the passage.

"What the hell are you doing?" I shouted at him. He ran back as a guard came running. He kicked him up and knocked him out. We ran to him.

"Shit, Minho!" I checked the guard's gun for ammo and threw it to Thomas."Let's go!"We arrived at the lab and pushed the doctor through first.

"Dr Crawford, are you here to..."The scientists looked up in confusion"Wait, wait. Okay, okay"They backed up as we barged in.

"Where is she? Where is she!"Thomas questioned them. They looked over to a bed covered by a curtain. He gave the gun to Minho who pointed it at them. While Thomas checked on Teresa, Newt tied the scientists up.

"Guys?"Frypan slammed the door shut "They're coming! Where do we go?"

"Frypan move!"I kicked over a table and pushed it against the door "Get back! Get back!"

"They've got the door barricaded. Send backup!"The guards pushed against our block.

"Okay, we gotta get outta here! Where do we go?"I turned to Thomas as he looked around the room.

"Everyone stand back!"He grabbed a stool, smashing it against a window"_____, Newt, help!"We both grabbed stools and broke the window.

"Go go go!"We jumped through as the guards and Janson made it past the door. Minho threw me the gun and we left the room only to be faced by a guard. I quickly pulled the trigger which caused the man to fly backwards in electrical shock.

"Shit. Okay, come on!"We ran past the twitching man and down the corridor.

"There it is! There it is!"Thomas yelled out.

"Converge on level 3"A voice said over the PA "All R-16 personnel, non-lethal force only"

"Thomas, the card!"I kept the gun ready as he tried to open the door.

"Shit! Come on!"The door denied entry repeatedly"No, no no!"

"Thomas!"We heard Janson's slimy voice as they approached behind us.I cocked my gun, marching towards him.

"Open this door, Janson!"I shouted over the alarm's ringing.

"You really don't want me to, ____"

"Open the damn door"I heard the beeping as they kept trying to open the door.

"Listen to me! I'm trying to save your life"He argued "The maze is one thing, but you kids wouldn't last one day out in the Scorch"They kept walking closer as did I "If the elements don't kill you, the Cranks will. ______, you have to believe me. I only want what's best for you"

"Yeah, let me guess. WICKD is good?"I replied in a sarcastic manner.

"You're not getting through that door" At that moment, the door clicked open revealing Aris and Winston standing there.

"Hey guys"

"Come on!"

"_____! Come on, let's go!"Thomas yelled at me as I looked back at Janson. I shot while running backwards. After the ammo finished, I threw the gun at them and ran like hell.

"Don't let them get away! Shut the main vault door!"Janson yelled. I sprinted as the door was slowly closing.

"No ____!"

"Come on _____! Come on!" I dropped to my knees and slid down just as the door sealed shut.

"Move! Move!"

"Thomas, what's going on?"I panted. Aris smashed the keypad so the guards and Janson couldn't get through. They begin to try to open the door while Aris finds a gun. Thomas gives the bird to a fuming Janson. We continue running for the exit.

"Come on, keep moving!" We find a large door and Thomas pulls it open. We wince as we see the high winded storm outside. I looked back at the soldiers trying to get through the door then back outside. 'Goodbye soft bed' I thought as I ran into the storm.

Y/N's P.O.V

"Alright, that's you done"The lady pulled the needle out of my arm and I nodded. A guard walked me down a corridor where I walked into a canteen full of young people. I looked around confused before I heard someone say my name.

"Hey ______!"Turning around I saw Minho jogging up to me.

"Hey, what's going on?"I followed him to a table.

"We weren't the only maze, c'mon" He sat down at the table and I slipped in next to him and Newt.

"They came in, shooting up the place and pulled us out"A guy was explaining as Newt passed me some food and a drink to which I numbly nodded.

"What about the other gladers?"Minho asked.

"How are you feeling?"Newt whispered.

"Fine"I replied, my voice monotone.

"____-"

"Please drop it"I whispered as he sighed and rubbed my back in comfort.

"What about the rest?"Newt asked"The other people left behind in the maze, what happened to them?"

"I don't know"The guy shrugged"I guess WICKD still has them"My eyes met with Thomas' and I raised an eyebrow.

"How long have you guys been here?"

"Not long, just a day or two"He gestured to a kid in a hoodie sitting by himself"That kid over there has been here the longest" We all looked at the kid as he stared down at his tray"Almost a week"

"His maze was nothing but girls"A guy glanced at me.

"Really?"

"Some guys have all the luck"I rolled my eyes as they all smirked.Our attention was diverted as Janson arrived. I couldn't help but feel irritated by his presence yet I couldn't figure out why.

"Attention Ladies and Gents. You all know how this works. If you hear your name called, please rise in an orderly fashion, join my colleagues behind me where they will escort you to the eastern wing. Your new lives are about to begin"There was a small round of applause and cheer before silence once more. Janson looked down at his clipboard and began to call out names"Conner, Evelyn,Justin..."He called out about 8 names before shutting his clipboard"Now, now, don't get discouraged. If I could take more, I would. There's always tomorrow. Your time will come. Go on eat up"Everyone clapped before turning back to their trays.

"Where are they going?" Minho asked the fellow in front of me.

"Far from here"He sighed"Lucky bastards"

"Some kind of farm. A safe place"The guy next to him continued"They can only take in a couple of people at a time"

"What the hell?"Thomas got up and went over to the window"Teresa!"He called out running towards a door before being stopped by a guard. He talked with them before returning to us. Just as he sat down, another guard arrived and told us it was time for us to go to our room. Minho raced for the top bunk as Frypan groaned.

"Too slow" He teased.

"I could get used to this"Winston grinned, laying down.

"Yeah, it's not bad"Newt commented as the door closed and locks clicked into place. I sat on a bottom bunk and sighed.

"_____ are you sure you're okay?"Minho asked me.

"I'm fine"I turned over and pulled the covers up. I heard them all sigh before settling down themselves.

~LATER THAT NIGHT~

'YOU CHOSE THEM OVER ME' Gally's face swam in front of me before being replaced by my mother. I could hear screams of betrayal and hatred, surrounding me, closing in...

I woke up gasping, covered in sweat. I felt my heart beating like a drum.

"_____?"I looked up to see Thomas standing by the sink, concern in his eyes"Are you ok?"

"I'm fine"I muttered, staring down at my hands that were trembling. I clasped them together, looking up as he sat down next to me and sighed deeply.

"No you're not"He turned towards me"You've been on silent mode since we got here. We're all worried about you _____"

"I said I'm fine!"I stood up, irritated"I'm not a child who needs to be looked after"I crossed my arms and clenched my jaw.

"It's not your fault what happened in the maze"Thomas softly said and I felt tears building.

"How do you know?! If I hadn't been so emotional neither Chuck nor Gally would have been killed!"I hissed at him, ignoring the tears pouring down my face"It's all my bloody fault! I know deep down you're angry at me because I'm such a stupid shank"He tightly pulled me into a hug as I sobbed quietly into his chest.

"No one is blaming you since it's not your fault"He rubbed my back before holding my face in hands"_______, you're like a sister to me, I am not nor can I ever be angry at you, it breaks my heart to see you like this, please don't blame yourself. You need to live again"He wiped my tears as I sniffed.

"You're right"I hugged him once more before pulling away.

"Now get some rest, I feel you'll need it"He kissed my forehead and stood up as I laid down.

Gally x Reader Chapter 22: Escape

Y/N'S P.O.V

"Everybody this way!" We followed Thomas down the passage to the Blades.

"Keep it up guys, we're almost there"I called back as we turned into section 7. Thomas put up his hand and we flattened ourselves against the wall as he looked around the corner.

"Is it a Griever?"He nodded.

"Shit"Chuck muttered.

"You take this, Chuck. Stay behind us"Minho handed him the key.

"It's okay. Just stick with me"I nodded gratefully at Teresa as she tied her hair up.

"Everyone listen up"I gripped my machete and explained the plan"Once we're through, it will activate and the door will open. We stay close, we stick together, we get through this. We get out now, or we die trying"I gave a little smirk of confidence as they agreed.

"Ready?"Thomas nodded at me.

"Ready"

"Let's go!"We let out a yell and ran into the chamber.The Griever roared and we began our attack. We tried pushing it to the edge but it knocked a glader over the edge and sent the key flying out of Chuck's hand. He ran after it, followed by Teresa. We sent the Griever over the ledge only to hear Chuck and Teresa scream as more Grievers arrived.

"The door!"I yelled, shoving a Griever back.

"Thomas, there's a code!"Teresa yelled"Eight numbers!"I saw him thinking just as a tail approached.

"Thomas!"I covered him to give him more time.

"Eight sections of the Maze!"He yelled"Hey _____! What's the sequence?"

"What?!"

"The sections of the maze, what's the sequence?"

"Seven! One! Five! Two! Six! Four!"

"Head's up!"Newt yelled as a Griever came down. I shoved Minho out of the way as it landed on top of me.

"____!"I shoved my pole in it's mouth, feeling it's teeth coming closer when I heard a yell as Jeff shoved his pole into it's skull.I scrambled up as Jeff was pulled away.

"Jeff!"Winston screamed.

"The sequence!"Teresa yelled.

"Six! Four! Eight! Three!"The door opened and the walls came down, crushing the Grievers. The door sealed shut and we were dropped down. A door was slightly open as we got up. I glanced at the others before carefully opening the door. We winced at the bright lights, finding ourselves in a long passage way. We carefully began walking down before coming to a door at the end which had a glowing sign saying EXIT on it.

"Seriously?"Frypan said as Thomas approached the door.He opened the door to reveal hazard light and dead bodies everywhere. We carefully made our way down.

"What happened here?" I shrugged to Winston's question. We entered a lab which was spluttering sparks. We walked around, looking for answers. Newt and Frypan looked at the computer where surveillance was set up.

"So they were watching us"He said as he looked down at the empty Glade"This whole time"

I ignored the feelings of embarrassment when I thought back to those nights alone with Gally. Pushing my thoughts aside, I turned away from the screen.

'Hello' We jumped as we saw a screen pop up. I felt anger surge over me as I recognized the blond woman. We gathered around the screen.

'My name is Doctor Ava Paige. I'm Director of Operations of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. If you're watching this, that mean you have successfully completed the Maze Trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you but circumstances seem to have prevented it.I'm sure by now, you must all be very confused, angry, frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason" The clip changed showing destruction and chaos.

"You won't remember but the Sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire, famine, suffering on a global scale. The fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse. We called it the Flare, a deadly virus that attacks the brain. It is violent, unpredictable, incurable. Or so we thought" It showed a flare infected victim before switching back to Ava.

"In time, a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly, there was a reason to hope for a cure. But finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed inside harsh environments where their brain activity could be studied. All in an effort to understand what makes them different...what makes you different. You may not realize it, but you're very important"Behind her, chaos had ensued. People were packing up and running as gunshots were fired.

"Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you will no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods. Progress is slow, people are scared. It may be too late for us, for me but not for you.The outside world awaits. Remember, WCKD is good"She shot herself making us all wince and look away. We looked over and saw the lifeless body of Ava lying there. There was an alarm then a door opened.

"Is it over?"Chuck asked.

"She said we were important"Newt pondered"What are we supposed to do now?"

"I don't know"Thomas shook his head, looking back at the body"Let's get out of here"I nodded and we began to walk towards the door.

"No"I whipped around to see Gally.

"Gally!"I was about to run into his arms but Newt held me back"Newt le-"

"That's not Gally"I looked back to the shaking Gally, who had a gun in his hand."He's been stung"I felt my eyes pricking.

"We can't leave"Gally shook his head, tears in his eyes.

"We did. Gally, we're out"Thomas carefully spoke"We're free"

"Free?"He scoffed"You think we're free out there?"He gestured towards the door"No, there's no escape from this place"He brought up the gun, pointing it right at Thomas.

"Gally, please don't do this"I stepped in front of Thomas"We can save you like we saved Alby"

"I don't want your help. You chose them. You chose him over me!"The gun trembled in his hand.

"Gally, listen to me. You're not thinking straight. You're not. Now, we can help you, just put down the gun"Thomas calmly told him.

"I belong to the maze"

"Just put down the gun"

"We all do"He pulled the trigger and I felt myself being shoved out of the way as there was a bang. At the same time, Minho threw his spear into Gally's heart. My heart shattered into a million pieces as I heard Chuck say "Thomas". I turned to see blood spreading through Chuck's chest.

"Chuck!"I grabbed him as his legs gave way.Putting his head in my lap, Thomas clutched his shirt.

"Chuck look at me! I got you, buddy. Just hang on, it's okay"

"Thomas, Thomas"He grabbed his arm, holding up his little carving. Tears pricking, I pressed my lips together to stop them trembling as I ran my hand over Chuck's curls.

"No, Chuck. You're gonna give it to them yourself"Thomas enclosed his hand around Chuck's fist"Remember I told you that"

"Take it"

"No"He whispered"No, Chuck, you're goi-"

"Thank you"Chuck weakly smiled before going limp.

"Chuck?"Thomas shook his body as I felt tears rolling down my face"Chuck?! Hey Chuck, come on! Wake up" I sensed someone gently picking me up, I looked to see Newt softly patting my back. I hugged him tightly, sobbing into his chest"We made it. Come on"Thomas cried"I'm sorry! God damn it!"A door opened to revealed to masked, armed men running in. They grabbed us, two of them tearing Thomas away from Chuck. He resisted, clinging onto Chuck's lifeless body. I looked back onto the limp body of Gally feeling fresh tears flow as I held onto Newt, the men bringing us towards a helicopter. We sat inside and it took off, one of the men tore off his mask.

"You guys alright? Don't worry. You're safe now" I looked out of the window as the helicopter flew over the vast desert wasteland we had called home, approaching a ruined city.

"Relax kid, everything is gonna change" The man said.

I just hoped for the better.

Gally x Reader Chapter 21: Choices

Y/N'S P.O.V

"It's the doors. They aren't closing"

I ran to the Gates followed by everyone.  There was a silence as we stared down at the entrance then a deafening boom. We looked around and saw the other walls creak open.

"Chuck, go to the Council Hall and start barricading the doors"I said, tearing my eyes away from the gates.

"Winston, go with him"Newt ordered and they ran off.

"Get the others"Gally told Clint"Tell them to go to the forest. Go hide, now!"

"Minho, I want you to grab any weapon you can find. I'll meet you at the Council Hall"Thomas told him.

"Minho, I have loads in my cabin"I ignored his questioning looks.

"Let's go!"Newt and Frypan ran to the kitchen while Minho and I ran to my cabin. We had just grabbed them when we began to hear screaming. I looked at him with wide eyes and we ran outside, meeting up with Newt and Frypan.

"Come on!"I saw Thomas yell as a Griever approached him. I threw my spear at it, distracting it as we ran to the Council Hall.

"Over here!"Chuck waved us over and we ran inside.

"______! The door"I slammed it shut, the purring of the Griever was loud as it jumped onto the roof. It poked it's tail through the roof, causing a beam to fall down. We piled into one corner as the Grievers poked their tails through the walls. I glanced as one tail crept up behind Chuck, my heart dropping as I ran to him.

"CHUCK!"I grabbed his hands, pulling as Thomas, Teresa and Minho joined me"Pull him back!"

"Chuck, don't let go!"

"No shit!"We struggled to pull him away. There was a scream and we saw Alby smashing the tail with the end of the beam. It retreated as I checked Chuck for injuries.

"Thanks Alby"Chuck picked up the needle that had fallen off before we saw the tail come back.

"Alby! Watch out!"Thomas yelled just as it grabbed Alby. He held onto the roof and Thomas and I ran over. I grabbed Alby's hand, pulling him back when he looked Thomas in the eyes.

"Thomas, get them out"With that he was pulled away.

"Alby!!"Thomas exclaimed. In his blindness, he ran towards the door.

"Thomas! Don't go out there!" I ran after him and we all exited the Council Hall. The Glade was quiet except for the fires that were raging on.

"Where is everybody?"Frypan said"And who's that over there?" We saw the angry figure of Gally marching towards us.

"Gally..."I warned just as he punched Thomas right in the face.I put myself between them as Winston and Jeff held Gally back.

"This is all you Thomas! Look around!"

"Back off Gally! It's not Thomas's fault!"I yelled, my hands up.

"You heard what Alby said! He's one of them!"Gally struggled, trying to get free.

"One of who?"

"He's one of them and they sent him here to destroy everything and now he has!"He screamed"This is all your fault!"

"Back off Gally!" I looked back at Thomas and saw him holding the needle.

"Thomas don't!"I yelled as he stabbed himself with the needle. I felt anger flare inside me while Chuck ran to get the other syringe. I turned to Gally, seething with rage "WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM?"

"MY problem?!? He's the one who came in here, destroying everything we've built and worked for!"

"You've hated him since day one!"

"Why are you always taking his side?! YOU ARE MY GIRLFRIEND!"There was deadly silence as everyone's eyes widened.

"I shucking knew it"I heard Minho whisper. Ignoring the stares we were getting, I stepped away from Gally, my heart tearing as I did so.

"Not anymore I'm not"

"Fine you're with them, where you've always wanted to be, skank"

"Screw you Gally!"I stormed away, my tears flowing down my face, I headed to my safe spot behind the runner's cabin.

~THE NEXT MORNING~

"Hey" I whipped around to see Minho. I stood and looked at him with a blank emotion.

"Thomas and Teresa are getting up soon"

"Okay"We began to walk to the Slammer. I felt his gaze on me making me sigh.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm fine"I muttered. I saw his mouth open and I turned to him"Now is not the time ok?"

"You're right"He nodded and we continued"I just can't believe I was right"I rolled my eyes as we arrived. I sat down next to Chuck as we saw Thomas stir in Teresa's lap. I caught her eye and smirked making her blush as he opened his eyes.

"You okay?"She asked him. He nodded and looked up at us.

"What the hell were you thinking?"Chuck fiercely told him. I shook my head at Thomas in agreement.

"What happened?" He said, sitting up.

"Gally has taken control"I kept the tremble out of my voice"He said we had a choice. Either join him......or get banished at sundown with you"

"And the others agreed to that?"

"Gally has everyone convinced that you're the reason all this happened"Teresa looked down at her hands.

"Well he's been right so far"

"What are you talking about?"Minho asked him.

Thomas took a deep breath before answering."This place, it's not what we thought it was. It's not a prison, it's a test. It all started when we were kids. They would give us these challenges, they were experimenting on us. And then people started disappearing. Every month, one after the other, like clockwork"

"They were sending them up into the maze"Newt concluded.

"Yeah but not all of us"Thomas continued.

"What do you mean?"I asked him.

"Guys, I'm one of them"He sighed"The people who put you here, I worked with them. I watched you guys for years. The entire time you have been here, I was on the other side of it" His eyes met Teresa's"So were you and ______"

"What?"She whispered as I felt my heart sink.

"If we were with them, then why are we here?"

"Because of you,____"

"Me?"I looked at Thomas"Why?"

"______ refused to listen and obey them. They couldn't continue their experiments and you became uncontrollable. You were the first member to go up into the maze. It was a warning to the rest of us"He turned back to Teresa"Teresa, we did this to them"She shook her head in disbelief"Why would then they send us up here if we were with them"

"Maybe for the same reason as ____, maybe not. Doesn't matter"

"He's right, it doesn't matter, any of it"I said to him"Because the people we were before the maze don't even exist anymore. The Creators took care of that.But what does matter is who we are now and what we do right now. You went into the maze and you found a way out"

"Yeah but if I hadn't, Alby would still be alive"

"Maybe"Newt added"But I know that if he were here, he would be telling you the exact same thing. Pick your ass up and finish what you started. Because if we do nothing then that means Alby died for nothing and I can't have that"

"Okay"Thomas nodded"Okay, but we gotta get through Gally first"

Swallowing the fear that had built up, I cleared my throat"I have an idea"

~AT SUNDOWN~

Minho, Chuck, Newt and I watched as Thomas and Teresa were brought to the Gates. Gally walked in front of them as Thomas was dumped on the ground.

"This is such a waste"He sighed, sheathing his blade.

"Gally...."He turned and looked at Winston"It doesn't feel right, man"

"Yeah, what if Thomas is right?"Clint added"Maybe he could lead us home"

"We are home, okay? I don't wanna have to cross any more names off that wall"

"You really think banishing us is gonna solve anything?"Teresa scoffed

"No. But this isn't a banishing"He looked down before back at her"It's an offering"

"What? Wait! Gally, what are you doing?" A Glader began to tie Teresa's hands to the pole.

"You really think I'm gonna let Thomas back into the maze after what he has done? Look around you! Look at our Glade. This is the only way"Newt looked at Minho and I, nodding."And when the Grievers get what they came here for, everything goes back to the way it was" I glanced at Chuck who was standing ready.

"Are you listening to this? Why are you all just standing there? He's crazy"

"You shut up"He pointed at Teresa.

"If you stay here, the Grievers are going to come back. They're gonna come back and they're gonna keep coming back until you're all dead!"

"Shut up! Tie him up"Gally shouted"Do you hear me? I said tie him up!"The gladers each took an arm and began lifting Thomas up. He hit one of them in the groin before hitting the other with the stick as Newt hit him in the back with the edge of his knife. Chuck ran over with the bags while Frypan freed Teresa. I held my machete to Gally's back and shook my head, holding back the tears as I took in the appearance of the love of my life for what I thought was the last time. I carefully made my way to the group, not breaking eye contact with Gally.

"You're full of surprises, aren't you?"He stared at me, his eyes dead.

"You don't have to come with us, but we are leaving"Thomas declared"Anyone else who wants to come, now is your last chance"

"Don't listen to him, he's just trying to scare you"

"No, he's not trying to scare you. You're already scared. I'm scared"I let out a deep breath, gripping my machete tighter"But I'd rather risk my life out there than spending the rest of it in here. We don't belong here. This place isn't our home, we were put here, we're trapped here. At least out there we have a choice. We can make it out of here, I know that"I looked around, my gaze ending on Gally, pleading for him to change his mind, desperately hoping he wouldn't leave me or I would leave him. Winston, Clint, Zart, Jeff and a few others joined us.

"Gally, it's over"I lowered my machete"Just come with us"He looked down before peering at me under his brows"Just come with me"I slowly lifted my hand out to him.

"Good luck against the Grievers"His voice was hoarse as I felt tears well up in my eyes.Thomas pulled my arm and we began our escape from the Maze.

Gally x Reader Chapter 20: Section 7

Y/N'S P.O.V.

Minho and I walked over to the Slammer to get Thomas. Minho leaned down and we peered through the gate.

"Big day, Greenie. Are you sure you don't wanna sit this one out?"Minho grinned.

"Come on, man. Get me out of here"Thomas shook his head as I pulled open the gate. We helped him up and I handed him the harness.

"Alright, let's go"We ran to the gate as it began to open. Minho looked at Thomas before running in.

"Let's go"I followed after him with Thomas close behind. We ran quickly as to be able to spend more time looking around.

"This way. Not much further to the inner ring"Minho called back to us"Come on this way!" We slowed down as we approached section 7.

"What the hell?"I whispered, the shock evident on Minho's face too.

"That's strange"

"What?"Thomas asked as we slowly walked to the gate.

"Seven is not supposed to be open for another week"I replied. We looked around us in wonder.

"What the hell is this place?"

"We call them blades"I spotted something in the dirt and jogged towards it, Minho and Thomas right behind me. I knelt down and picked up the bloodied tank top.

"It's Ben's, isn't it?"Thomas said quietly. I sighed and got up as Minho ran a hand over his face"A Griever must have pulled him down here" We heard a crackling sound, looking around in confusion"Woah!"Thomas pulled the device from Minho's harness. It crackled loudly as we went further in but quieter when we moved away "I think it's showing us the way"Thomas looked back at Minho and I. We followed Thomas as he led the way with the crackling device. We came to an open passage, cautiously we walked in.

"Minho, you ever see this place before?"I asked, staring around the chamber in wonder.

"No"We walked up to the end of the passage way"It's just another dead end" Minho put his hand on the wall as Thomas stared down at the device. The red number 7 turned green and we heard a loud click. The wall lifted followed by more walls that opened up, finally revealing a giant hole in the wall.

"Are you sure about this?"I questioned Thomas.

"Nope"He took a deep breath before heading towards the hole, Minho and I right behind him. I ran my hand on the surface, feeling it thick with a slimy substance.

"Grievers" All of a sudden, a red light lit up. It scanned us and we heard clanking.

"What the hell was that?" A loud buzzer followed and Minho grabbed my hand.

"We gotta get out of here"I grabbed Thomas and we began to run.

"Give me the key!"I threw Minho the device as we ran down the passage. The blades began to turn as we exited.

"We gotta go! Run Thomas!"We followed Minho as he led us through the blades. A blade closed in front of me, leaving me on the other side of Thomas and Minho.

"_____!"I ran along the blades as they closed up. Running sideways, I crashed into Thomas"Keep going!"We exited the blades and the ground began to shift and break.

"Don't look back!"We squeezed through the passage as it led us back in the maze. I landed on top of Thomas and Minho. I let out a sigh of relief and we made our way back to the Glade.Some of the Gladers were waiting such as Frypan, Chuck, Newt and Gally. I saw easiness in his eyes as he looked me over.

"What the hell's going on out there?"Newt asked as we panted.

"What the hell have you done now, Thomas?"I shook my head as Thomas, Minho and I paced with Newt.

"We found something, a new passage. We think it could be a way out" I told Newt.

"Really?"

"It's true"Minho agreed"We opened a door, something I'd never seen before. I think it must be where the Grievers go during the day"

"Wait!"Chuck ran up to us"You're saying you found the Grievers' home? And you want us to go in?"

"Their way in could be our way out, Chuck" Thomas suggested.

"Yeah, or there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side"Gally interjected"The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he has done as usual" Thomas let out an frustrated sigh before turning to Gally.

"At least I did something, Gally. I mean, what have you done? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time?"I saw Gally tense with anger.

"Let me tell you something Greenie. You've been here 3  days, all right? I've been here 3  years!"

"Yeah, you've been here 3 years and you're still here, Gally! What does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently"As they argued, I saw Teresa approach and try to get a word in.

"HEY!"They all looked my way"It's about Alby" We turned to Teresa

"He's awake"We followed her to the Med-cabin where Alby was sitting up in bed.

"Alb?"Newt sat down next to him"Alby, are you all right?" I saw he had tears in his eyes and I felt a pit form in my stomach.

"Hey Alby"Thomas crouched down to his eye level"Alby, we might have just found a way out of the maze.Do you hear me? We could be getting out of here"Alby shook his head, his face in pain.

"We can't. We can't leave"His lips shook as he spoke"They won't let us"

"What are you talking about?"I sat down opposite him, the pit deepening.

"I remember"My eyes met with Gally's before I turned back to Alby.

"What do you remember?"Thomas asked quietly.

"You"Alby turned to him"You were always their favorite, Thomas. Always"We heard shouting as Alby stared down at Thomas"Why did you do this? Why did you come here?" Tears rolled down his face and he held his head in his hands as we ran outside.

"Winston, what's going on?"I said to him as Gladers ran around with torches.

"It's the doors. They aren't closing"
