hi tumblr i love you tumblr. working at a summer camp is crazy. since it’s my first year i feel all the campers are trying to figure me out so to speak and they keep telling me what they think i’m like. one told me i was like her yellow lab because i am so “cozy and toasty”. one told me i was like miss honey. one told me she would not be surprised if i regularly shedded and she was talking to the husk of me (yikes!).

the one that stood out to me the most though was the one who told me that i am the person 10-year-old her wanted to grow into. what a wild thing to say! i think 10-year-old me would have hated the style i took on and my intense lack of shame about the seemingly uncool things i care about. i think i would not have understood who i am now at 18 when i was 10.

i love it when these kids tell me they remind me of somebody they feel safe around or a character they grew up wanting to meet. i love it when i can show children that they can be soft and friendly and wear cool earrings and navigate the world with confidence. i love it when a camper feels safe enough to tell me what they’re struggling with and i love it when they tell me they feel heard afterwards.

these kids are all so fun to interact with and i would lay down my life for any one of them without even thinking twice. this is such a hard job and it can get frustrating and exhausting but it feels so good to remember all of this and i just know that when i get home this is going to feel like such a fever dream

i understand that i am watching supernatural at least 10 years late but it is exposing things to me about myself that i never had the vaguest idea of. i soooo would have been a superwholock bitch had i been on the internet during that time
