Overly Detailed Death Mark Pokemon Au:

This alternate universe is based on a fake region I super basically called Shiin. It’s probably near like Kanto, Johto and Sinnoh on the world map. (Seriously the autism is real I made a full like detailed list of places in the region lmfao)

It’s a region where ghost Pokemon are much more active and much more dangerous. Satoru Mashita when it was time for his Pokemon Journey was immediately kicked out of his house and was sorta homeless. His first Pokemon was literally a Poochyena he found in a dumpster. Anyways being homeless and wanting to get a job over any typical grandiose dreams of doing the gym challenge and becoming the very best. So he went around and did part time work. He even worked in a Pokemon Daycare and an abandoned houndour imprinted on him (He taught her how to light his cigarette with its Fire Ball). Primarily because he didn’t mind getting burned a bit when he bottle feed the Pokemon. It got so attached his boss practically told him it wanted to go home with him.

He eventually joined the police force and his Senpai gave him a Rowlet out of pity because all the Growlithe hated his ass. During his time working here he managed to adopt a Purrloin out of a Pokemon Neglect case. He really hates the bias against Ghost and Dark types . Eventually he starts digging into H Pokemon Academy and gets fired for trying to uncover something he shouldn’t.

Chapter 1

He opens up his own private eye business and the business is slow and his Pokemon definitely are bringing him berries to eat as he tightens his belt. Unknowingly Yasuoka the Psychic member of the elite four and Rose the Psychic Gym leader have visions that the two legendaries are being awakened and Mashita is one of the reincarnated souls able to seal said legendaries away. Rose sends Mashita away to Kurenai Village because the Ghost Gym Leader, Saya Kujou has gone missing and the vacant spot of being Gym Leader is her worried older brother.

Mashita accepts the job despite everyone and their mother trying to tell him Kurenai Village is cursed and isolated. Kurenai Village is talked a lot about as an urban legend. Mashita though is a professional and does not care if he has to deal with a curse or some Ghost Pokemon. Anyways, Kurenai Village is blocked by almost all sides by cursed red maple forests or Mt Junji. The only way in is by train.

Mashita enters the rust smelling train only to realize the driver is a fucking Gengar. Unlike other people being scared. Mashita insults the Gengar causing the Gengar to stop the train forcing Mashita to walk the rest of the abandoned Route 4 (A route that was abandoned because how dangerous the wild Ghost Pokemon are for the trainers on their Pokemon journey hence the train). Mashita eventually finds a strange long haired man wearing glasses getting bullied by Ghost Pokemon in a field of Spider Lilies. He saves him of course but not until he calls him a fucking dumbass. He does not know he just insulted who is his client aka Kazuo Yashiki current ghost gym leader.

To be fair, Kazuo Yashiki was down bad from day one. Anyways Mashita after he learns that Yashiki is his client and his future partner in figuring out Saya Kujou disappearance and he literally called him a dumbass at first interaction. Kazuo Yashiki asked him to Pokemon battle which actually turns to be a draw. The thing is one thing he kept secret is the Kujous have a special ability to fully understand what Pokemon are saying. And Mashita Pokemon adore him.

Mashita stays the night over the next day they go back at the train station which the Gengar happily drives the train to pick them up. Yashiki chides Mashita about being so rude earlier to the driver. Mashita sighs annoyed. They travel back to the main city which is called Taiyou City. And they can only share one tent. And Mashita still thinks he is a weirdo for cuddling so close to a Chandelure.

Chapter 2

Their first lead is when they saw a trainer named Moe and a a young school boy named Tsukasa that both have the mark that Yashiki saw last on Saya. They investigate H Pokemon Academy. They figure out the cause of the supernatural events is a swarm of Roserade, a Phantump blessed with some sort of ghastly energy, and a Hypno (That previously was the cause of the child turning into a Phantump). Mashita actually managed to catch one of the Roserade by entrancing it with the smell of his cigarettes. Moe and Tsukasa are cured so Mashita and Yashiki is back on a dead end.

Chapter 3

This is when the two of them accidentally get involved with Team Yokai (There’s two evil teams in this region. Team Yokai that feels Pokemon should be free and wild and dangerous. And Team Yurei that wants to release the legendaries fully so Shiin will be changed forever). One of the Goons actually is Shou Nagashima a good natured trainer that got involved with the wrong crowd. Mashita noticed the Mark and they travel to Beedrill Family Farm. A secret cult site that really worshiped Beedrill that’s near Midori Town. This is when they fight against a monstrous Beedrill that has been powered up by gastly power and Mashita managed to catch it by pure luck. It has been cleansed by Yashiki and then joins Mashita team. (Turns out humans that were part of this cult killed his senpai).

Chapter 4

Outside Crying Woods they have to deal with a Gardevoir that suddenly turned evil because of similar stuff. Suzu and Eita were both there because of a homework assignment for the pokemon and Christie was found getting harassed earlier by ghost pokemon. They then cleanse the pokemon.

Chapter 5

They return to H pokemon academy and the curse bearers is Hiroo, Yasuoka, and Ai. The pokemon in question is a human that turned herself into a Garchomp and finally they have actual clues to follow to an old abandoned Laboratory that is hidden under Taiyou City. The Pokemon called the Kannon Solider was the result of experimenting on ghost pokemon and is practically a mutated Spiritomb. They find out where Team Yurei is keeping the Legendary but they are too late and have to battle Amairy and eventually Mashita and Yashiki manages to seal it and Mashita fully drags Yashiki into becoming his partner. After Amairy is defeated, Saya Kujou is saved from being in the Distortion World. Meanwhile Akira Kijima is having a typical Pokemon experience of having two rivals (Hazuki and Amanome), fighting at gyms and accidentally getting involved with the two Evil Teams. He also deals with certain pokemon that’s powerful because of a certain power. Eventually he sees Team Yokai getting killed for unleashing the sister pokemon to Amairy, an Asian inspired doll like pokemon that goes by Umaiya. He saves the day and eventually takes on the league and becomes the new champion. This is when Mashita and Yashiki appear to him to help with Umaiya.

Chapter 7

Mashita and Yashiki get involved with two cases about a previous love hotel that’s been taken over by spider pokemon and an abandoned amusement park that used to worship a giant gastrodon. Think of these two cases as those DLC we get every region.

Chapter 8

Yashiki then goes and investigates Konoehara Academy which unknowingly has an ultra beast that has two students under its thrall and turning ghosts into pokemon. It follows the game, Tentacruel, Mawile, Sylveon, and Shiinotic. The ultra beast mythic is called Shibito. After this case Mashita and Yashiki offically get together after spending actual years flirting much to their pokemon soft annoyance. Mashita and Yashiki then start traveling to numerous regions for research. Definitely went to Galar at least.

The moment you realize both Mary and Satoru Mashita get their names from two semi famous Japanese urban legends. Mary from the urban legend of Mary-San (Doll gets abandoned finds her way back kills the little girl that owned her) and Satoru-Kun (a spirit game that’s akin to the numerous forms of like Ouija except it’s asking a spirit any question that they will have the honest answer too.) The Satoru Kun thing is just funny because Mashita in blue demise literally follows the urban legend making him a spirit in a phone lmfao.

Basically as I was playing Miitopia I had this idea in my head that made me want to draw a short comic, but then I realized that I write better than I draw, so you're getting writing instead lol. Enjoy!

Waking up to a fuchsia pink sky was definitely the first hint that he wasn't where he was supposed to be. Also grass shouldn't be striped. Neither should trees.

Where the hell was he?

He tries to sit up, to roll over, to turn his head at least, but his muscles seem to not want to listen to him just yet, sprawled flat on his back as if he was stuck to some kind of glue trap from how fatigued he felt, so instead he takes the moment to scratch his brain for a reminder of what could have possibly led him to be transported to.... Wherever this was.

The only visual that plays within his staticky mind is a scene of trees zooming past, a flash of familiar brown beside him, a shadow chasing close behind, a flash of bright light in front of him, and then.... and....then....?

...Then what?

This, he guesses.

A shuffle of the grass above his head snaps him out of his thoughts immediately, his body tensing in high alert as the form of someone blocks the sun from his eyes.

"You okay there? You both seem to be in pretty bad shape, the Breads and Running Noses do tend to be pretty rampant around these parts."

...

Bread? Runny noses? What the hell are they talking about? He doesn't have time to dwell on it as a sudden onslaught of golden glitter starts raining down onto his face and clothes, yelling out curses on reflex to whoever was attacking him until a violent cough racks his body as it enters his windpipe.

It seemed to be doing something to him though. As the weariness begins to fade away, his arms shoot up to block any more of the irritant as he rolls onto his side, sputtering and gasping for breath.

"Oh....uh, what are you doing? You're not supposed to eat it."

The audacity to make him look ridiculous when they're the ones attacking him.

"But that should do it.... Can you stand?"

Immediately he's on his feet like a bolt, and in brisk, deliberate strides he stands before them, jabbing a finger out, ready to give this brown-haired perp a piece of his mind.

"That was highly illegal y'know. Who the hell do you think you are, attacking a for-"

His complaint fizzles out in his throat at the sight of the person wilting away from the cat claw protruding from a paw attached to his hand. Where were his hands?!

"Hey, fuzzy. Put that fuckin paw away, you tryna kill us with cuteness or somethin?"

"E-EJ!"

Nevermind the harsh statement, he's now fully aware of sensations he shouldn't be having. The shifting of ears now on top of his head, the twitching of whiskers protruding from his cheeks, the flicking of a tail thumping the ground behind him.

"What? Jellie, it's a man-cat in a suit. That's weirdly adorable."

"Or is it a cat....man? He has a human face..."

Mashita blocks out the droning blows to his ego, glaring down at cushiony pink paw pads as if they'd melt if he waited long enough. Just what kind of nightmare had he woken up to?

One that wasn't chasing him through a haunted forest, for a change.

Putting his paws into his coat pockets and turning his head away slightly, he clicks his tongue at the strangers, attempting to give off an air of indifference despite the heat slowly creeping up his neck.

"Nevermind that, I'm Mashita Satoru, a private detective that was cursed into a cat during an investigation. ("God it sounds even dumber out loud, but it should be believable enough.")

A shorter stature enters his view and he turns, the person from earlier peering up at him with droopy green eyes on their sloth-like face.

"I'm sorry about earlier, I was trying to heal you. I'm Jellie by the way." They hold up a bottle for him to see, still a quarter full of the golden glitter. Mashita nods and leans in slightly, inspecting a label on the front with the words "HP Sprinkles" written on it.

HP? Great....he was in some videogame world bullshit.

Another presence makes itself known as he straightens up again, only to glance up a bit higher at a vibrantly pink individual. Pink hair, pink eyes, pink...clown nose? Alright, so he wasn't the only ridiculous looking one here. That made him feel better....slightly.

"You already heard my name called earlier, but it's EJ. Nice to meetcha, Fuzzy." She ends with a charismatic wink, shifting a strawberry biscuit stick between grinning teeth. He can feel his eye twitch at the nickname.

A tapping on his arm has him looking back at the former, eyebrows quirking upwards at a knowing glint shining within their tired eyes.

"I can tell you two aren't from around here. This world, I mean."

Oh? So they might know a way to send him back home. Wait... Two?

His heart drops into his stomach.

Yashiki.

"Yashiki. Whe-"

A raucous cough and flapping bat wings catch the three of them off guard, whipping around to a scraggly man shot upright in the grass, wine red eyes wide in startled alarm before shifting back into a cool obsidian as he lethargically tries to make sense of his surroundings, stumbling slightly as he tries to get up onto shaky legs.

Nevermind. There he is.

Yashiki finally seems to notice he's not alone, stubbornly trying to make his way over despite his tipsy movements. Just as he's about to trip over his own legs, Mashita reaches out, catching him mid-fall, and lifts him back up to rest his thin face upon his shoulder as the other two people in the group surround them.

"Woah, a vampire! Thatsa first time seein one for me!"

"He's not looking too good... But the ability is a plus..."

"Ability?" Mashita questions, deciding to push for more info on what could be ailing him as Yashiki's breath heavily fans along his skin. Jellie stops mid-hp shake to look up at him.

"Ah yeah.... Vampires have the ability to revive themselves if they get knocked out.... Although it leaves them at one hp afterwards, so it's good to get them healed as quickly as possible...."

That's. Pretty useful, actually. If only that was possible in the real world...

He doesn't miss the feeling of lips licking close to his neck. His whiskers twitch. "A vampire, eh?" He shifts Yashiki in his hold, his head rolling wearily away with a pitiful whine, and he just can't help the amused exhale that escapes him. Just as he thought, his mouth was parted slightly, the tips of pale fangs glinting just within sight.

"No biting, or you're going to get sprinkled."

"Oh, I was about to do that anyway..... He's not going to get mad at me too, is he?"

"I'LL DO IT!!"

EJ immediately grabs the shaker before Jellie can react with anything other than slow blinks as she aggressively shakes it above his head. Suddenly Mashita finds it a lot harder to keep a hold on him as he gains energy back, floundering within his grip as he lets out a yelp at the sudden onslaught. He wraps his new tail around him for extra support without thinking.

When the last few flecks of gold drift away, EJ places the shaker back into Jellie's open palm as they all check to make sure he's not too rattled.

"Hey.....um...Yashiki, was it? How are you feeling...?"

Yashiki blinks a few times, as if trying to make sense of his situation; not that he can blame him, there's a lot that feels far from normal right now.

"Uh... different, I think? But...otherwise better than I was a moment ago. Do either of you know where I am?"

("Well fuck him, I guess. He's taking this far better than I thought.") Mashita digs his claws deeper into his shoulders, a quick intake of breath escaping the older man's lips as his muscles stiffen in shock.

"Oi, I'm also here, Yashiki. Or do you just like it when people hold you?"

Yashiki floats upwards out of his arms, his own flailing slightly at the unexpected movement before softly landing, turning around to fully face him. He doesn't comment on the way his fingers twitch as he glances up at his new ears then back down to meet his eye. His tail thumps the ground once more.

Needlepoint fangs peek out with the fond smile that stretches across his lips, eyes turning soft at what he hoped was about him being alive and not these stupid cat features.

"I knew it was you Mashita, I'm just glad I'm not alone in a strange world, is all."

He's practically glowing as he says it, and all Mashita can think about is if it's because he's in the sun? Or wait...no, vampires catch fire in the sun, don't they? Or are the laws of this universe just entirely different? Why was he trying to figure out the semantics of vampires in a world that already didn't make sense? How tiring....

Sluggishly glancing behind Yashiki, his eyes widen slightly at the knowing look the two acquaintances are throwing his way, EJ waggling her eyebrows as Jellie sends him a positive thumbs up. Gritting his teeth, he steps closer to Yashiki, tail swishing back and forth as he pulls him closer, wrapping his arms around the taller man, said man reciprocating the hug automatically with a confused tilt of his head.

From behind his back, Mashita flips off the pair, his ears folding back as EJ lets out a cackle, trying to catch her breath at the sight of Mashita holding Yashiki's head in place when he tries to see what's so funny.

"I'm just glad you're here too, Yashiki."

Bonus:

Leaning up against the side of the Inn's wall, Mashita was planning on getting some fresh air to sort out his thoughts when a certain clown decided to make her appearance, sidling up beside him and matching his stance; arms crossed and one foot propped on the wall behind her. For a while they stand like that, not saying anything to each other, but he could feel it, like a balloon that was about ready to pop.

This eyesore of a clown wanted to talk, and all he wanted was to walk away, to hiss, threaten to scratch, anything to be left alone, but from the little bit he was able to gleam personality-wise of the colourful cast he had the "pleasure" of meeting back inside, he knew he wouldn't be able to escape without carnage in the form of a headache he could already feel blossoming. With an audible sigh, he backs down.

"God I could really use a smoke right about now..."

"Oh, ya smoke? Here I gotcha covered."

His ears perk up at the peace offering, holding out his outstretched paw while remaining forward. He's thankful for the vice, but the last thing he needs is this tooth-rotting clown to feel like she's getting somewhere with their affiliation.

Once he feels the small stick brush over his paw, he nods in quiet thanks, about to bring it closer to his lips before pausing, blinking a few times at it as he finally registers just what the hell he's holding.

"The hell? This is just a biscuit sti-"

He rubs his paw against his tired face. He was literally hanging out with a clown, he should've known better than to think anything serious would come of this. Finally glancing over to said clown with annoyance clearly visible, he can only stare in confusion when she pulls a biscuit stick of her own from her lips, blowing a puff of strawberry scented smoke into the air around them, the stick itself looking completely normal, no lit end, nothing.

"Hey man, don't let it go to waste."

He really needs to grab Yashiki and get the hell out of here.

The take about Death Mark I would probably be canceled for is:

Tw: For vague mention of the SA numerous spirits have in their backstory in the games

I am actually in support of the fan disservice even though I have seen some folks first time playing being shocked by seemingly random sexual shots for the female characters. And I do understand how for newbies it can easily bring someone out of the tension that the game series so perfectly grows until the climactic exorcism with the current chapter prime spirit.

I am usually not a fan of way too many ass or boob shots. (hello I’m Ace). But I’m actually in support of death mark mostly when they do it. For some background Japanese folklore has long has had a fascination with women so scorned by the world that after death they become spirits out of whatever emotion they felt at their moment of death. It’s the whole idea behind Onryō as a concept. Spirits that died so angry that after death they bring harm upon the living. Women and children are easy victims by society to harm so around the world they are prime demographics to inspire stories of spirits. In fact Japan has so many ghost stories that have women scorned returning as a spirit as its main point. Whether a woman killed because her lord acted like she stole a plate (add on in most myths Okiku lord lusted after her body and made this lie after she refused his advances because of fragile male pride) or a woman poisoned to ugliness and her death because her supposed husband lusted after a another woman and more status and money. This isn’t even talking about how these tales inspired the greats of Japanese horror like Sadako (The Ring) or Kayako (The Grudge/Ju-on). This to say horror born out of woman suffering is in deep into Japanese culture.

This to say. Even with this background the fan disservice still feels out of place at points. But I’m here to explain why I actually in support of the fan disservice. The point is that no one can disagree that one of the main reasons for this is because sex sells. Hell just look at American horror. Sex and horror go hand in hand at times. But it’s not just random boob shots. It has a narrative purpose.

First, Hanahiko with all the rose bondage. It’s clear by the end of the chapter that the poor boy was a victim to an adult man for being gender un conforming. And without going in length about it but children don’t have the capacity to really understand how wrong what is done to them until later in life. It’s because he is victim that after death he unknowingly repeating the same actions done to him. Secondly, Hanayome awful things happened to her that caused her not want to be looked at out of shame. Third, Red Riding Hood whole story is how she was victimized by a group of men and how her teacher broke her trust and Yashiki even acting slightly like those men always eventually causes him to die. Fourth, the whole general idea behind the departed is whole society victimized women that caused them after death to have a grudge for such an inhuman wedding.

This to say this is why I support the fan disservice. If you pay attention most of it is a victim repeating what is done to them out of trauma. It’s supposed to make you feel that inner ick. This is to say I have one qualm about it. There’s a thin line between fantasy over someone pain and narrative sense for lewd CGs. But this could easily be solved with one thing. Let the men whether Yashiki or whoever also join in the fan disservice. When it’s always women it loses the narrative importance and quickly just becomes sex for sex. Tie up Mashita and Yashiki to equal out the treatment. Because like there’s a fine line between showing horrible things done to women and just sexualizing said horrible things.

This is just my own thoughts and I don’t expect most to agree. Especially because lewdness in anything people have different hmmm tolerance levels for it? Anyways enjoy my essay lol
