the most compelling part of Derapchu as a character to me, is how utterly and completely desperate he is. After being abandoned by the two people he cares about most dearly and rejected by about half the server, he’s willing to do anything to keep being teamed with Zam. He’s willing to become anyone to keep Zam. He’ll change his morals, ideals, and likes to what Zam wants, he’ll support Zam in anything wholeheartedly, except if she wants him to not support her then he won’t. He says he just wants to be by her side and he means it. He’ll follow Zam anywhere, into any conflict or crusade, just because his dream is to be standing by her side when the season ends. Because he remembers the sour taste of rejection and loneliness, and he’ll do anything to not experience it again.

Hmm random thing thats happened without me noticing it: Deraps gotten stingier with his hearts. Previously, Deraps been on twenty breifly, but hes also been on like two, he knows what its like to be both. So when he gets high on hearts again hes eager to give them away, to his new team, either The Sticklers or whoever. And when him and Zam teamed, he made a point of giving hearts, as few as Zam would accept, saying he wanted them to be on the same number of hearts. And they were for awhile. And then Derap died to Flame and the wardens like THREE times and for awhile realized hearts dont matter.

But sometime after Zam left and Parrot arrived, that changed. Derap changed fundamentally. He borrowed hearts from Jumper and resistes giving them back. He took hearts from Pangi, and never gave him any, despite saying that he planned a video to give him alot of hearts. He kept all(?) of the Parrot hearts even though I think he was supposed to split them with Rek.

If I had to guess I would say, it had something to do with him being abandoned again. With him being exiled from spawn and ally-less against what felt like half the server. He started looking out for himself first and then Parrot refused to return, and that solidified that thought. Derap made deals with Mapicc his former enemy against Pangi, his closest friend. All for the sake of looking out for himself.

And once Zam returned, it’s as if she immediately noticed the chance, just unable to put it into words. Derap changed, he was the giving, loyal ally she teamed with 97 days ago. In a really damning moment Derap did not offer her hearts until she died again to Flame, even though he knew she was low. And when Zam refused, he didn’t even insist.

This change which happened so slowly I almost didn’t notice appears to have slipped by Derapchu himself. Maybe it’s just the normal lifesteal cycle, maybe this change is natural. Either way, I don’t think it’s a change for the better.

wemmbu and his chungus teammate (rambling and extras under cut)

more tulip duo forever please their so silly and the common wemmbu species headcannons match the common derap species headcannons so welll.....

the fact that spider (specicly huntsman) wemmbu would be viewed by the server as being so scary and intimidating, all sharp fangs and long legs. While bilbies are small, nocturnal, burrowing marsupials. not a single offensive tendency. rabbit like ears and a white tail tip. wemmbu and his chungi teammate. But despite this bilbies are a known natural predator of spiders (and most bugs tbh) an animal which would be unnerving to nearly anyone else on the server, to derap is a beloved teammate. Not the orbital strike cannon building, exploiter. But wemmbu.

And with the increasing popularity of both avian wemmbu (hawk bc its still a bird of prey, although not the biggest, wemmbus still a pvper although not the best) and rabbit derap. With hawks being an iconic predator to rabbits its so fun. Although i feel with bilby derap (my fave) i think wemmbu would be a wedge-tailed eagle, they match his aura.

overall i just think that predator and prey hybrid dynamics are rly fun, like even outside of the actuall symbolism potential (when i get to yapping about dog mapicc and kangaroo derap it is so OVER for you) especially across duos and teams, its such a fun way for them to be matching without having to be the same animal, and is easier on people to see that way than them just being animals from the same ecosystem. like if they were just a bit less human, theyd kill the other. and lets be real here its lifesteal they still likely will.

uu derap is just so tragic, man, and 🌸🌀 anon fucking gets it.

it's the way his first appearance in spoke's and parrot's first episodes is of him being just a stupid background henchman, incapable of anything. the way in wemmbu's second episode he's brushed off as a quickdrop.

it's the way he's treated both by people and by the narrative as comic relief, as someone incapable of doing anything but blurt out stupid shit that makes people laugh. the way in parrot's ep3 his disappearance is brushed off as incompetence and fleeing, the "derapchu is out of the question" in the proton ep. he's allowed to tag along, he's a friend, but he's just a comic relief. he is incompetent. he is the guy who says "im single" to a question about siblings, the guy who snores loudly when sleeping!

and doesn't that sting? doesn't that get to your head? doesn't that make you doubt yourself, too? you may get defensive on the outside, but what about your mind, your heart? do you defend yourself there?

and the answer that was given to us in "i got hunted by a redstone genius" was yes, yes, it gets to his head every time, it hurts, it stings. but there's no defense left in him.

"I just want people to see me differently."

"Then see yourself differently first."

how can he see himself differently when all that surrounds him is failure? when all that anon mentioned happens? when a stupid snore made his teammates leave the base and got them all found?

as per cc!Derapchu's words, uu!Derap got those netherite boots after the events of "redstone genius" as a sign of respect. it's a symbol that maybe he's capable, maybe he can be trusted, maybe it's worth to keep him around and he's useful after all. for derap, it can truly be a symbol of hope, a reason to think of himself differently, hope that others are starting to think of him differently..!

so imagine derap after the latest episode. he is a bad luck charm, no? maybe he should give those boots back. there's no hope for him, after all.

and he thinks of himself the same.

we're back on our uu derap angst arc!!! anyways, imagine being left to take care of an entire army of players- hundreds of thousands, you probably don't keep track of them all. but you were the one entrusted with these people (you're the only other available person. if she had still been here, they wouldn't have chosen you.) and yet you break that trust because everyone- under your care- dies. right under your nose.

yeah, was it preventable? void no- that guy is god and he will get what he wants. you can't fight against it. but does that stop you from feeling guilty? of course not! maybe if you'd have kept a closer eye, been more attentive- maybe if she was here, she would've spotted it; gotten everyone out or to somewhere safe (temporarily) or just came up with a plan.

then, you find a survivor- oop! nope! that's the guy who massacred all of your friends! and you just. Let Him roam free, by your side. just how much more disappointing can you be?

do you start believing yourself to be a bad luck charm- when your team leader has to basically give himself up to save (you) guys? when the orbital strike canon shot misses? when your armor keeps breaking and you can't be useful in fights? when the second strongest person on the team leaves and then promptly dies in front of your eyes?

anyways. whatever. uu derap isn't even that interesting anyways.

THE TWIN STARS?? THE WAY THEY RELATE TO TWO PAIRS AT ONCE?? so insane. parrot's a genius writer I love him.

I lowk messed up my chronological order of watching but it was so worth it and the main arc. GOSHHHH the main character arc. tears in my eyes.

I really gotta collect some more proper thoughts about this my god. (and catch up on past eps bro🙏😭) until then, PEAK.
