An Eraser in My Head: Special Letter
Can I just say... if you’ve ever heard any of Kaji’s reading live, you’ll get addicted to it. This is an excerpt from the reading released yesterday, adaptation of A Moment to Remember (Japanese: 私の頭の中の消しゴム; Hepburn: Atama no Naka no Keshigomu, lit. "An Eraser in My Head").
EDIT: Kaji also put up a behind-the-scenes of the recording for this on his channel (see here).
youtube
Based on the 2001 Japanese melodrama Pure Soul: Even if You may Forget me (Japanese: Pure Soul 〜君が僕を忘れても〜; Hephurn: Pure Soul: Kimi ga Boku wo Wasuretemo), later adapted into a South Korean film in 2004 by the same title as this reading. It follows the theme of discovery in a relationship and the burdens of loss caused by Alzheimer's disease. [Wikipedia]
The schedule is as follows (available 10 days from starting date):
2 May 2020 (Sat): Kaji Yuki x Takagaki Ayahi
5 May 2020 (Sat): Fukuyama Jun x Manaka Ayu
8 May 2020 (Sat): Kato Kazuki x Ikoma Rina
15 May 2020 (Fri): Hirose Tomoki x Taketatsu Ayana
https://geki-keshigomu.spwn.jp/
https://ch.nicovideo.jp/geki-keshigomu
Unfortunately, Kaji’s session is now only available on nico for ¥3,000. I bought my ticket on the spwn platform and it came with several options: (¥3,000 for normal entry;  ¥5,000 incl. pamphlet;  ¥5,500 incl. script;  ¥7,500 incl. pamphlet, script and postcards) so of course I had to get the last deal since I NEED that pamphlet and postcards. Keshigomu takes super high quality photos *coughs* I swear I’m not just after more ring shots of Kaji (Note: in case you’re new here, I’ve explained before about why Keshigomu’s pamphlets have ring shots)... and yes, TOTALLY not so that I can make poor-taste photo merging like this (*゚ー゚)
Tumblr media
Anyway, my point is... THIS WAS SO GOOD (I’m also trying to ignore the fact that Ayachi is part of the cast but not with Kaji) but regardless, his performance with Takagaki was great. I’ve been hearing rumours (good ones) about this particular project for YEARS so I’m so glad I finally got an opportunity to hear it from where I am. I swear, if I ever make plans to visit Japan again, I’ll schedule it during the period this is held (if they cast Kaji again). This must be experienced live in a theater...
One of the many reasons why I’m particularly invested in this show, is because his 2018 performance with Iitoyo Marie has been passed down like a legend among his fans. Long story short, he apparently cried his eyes out in that session, which is extremely rare for Kaji to do something like that live. Here’s a recent interview of him talking about the incident with the actress playing his partner then:
The actress and fashion model Iitoyo Marie, who co-starred in "An Eraser in My Head," has been invited for an interview that covers a wide range of topics, from acting to fashion, and it was truly an endless talk.
Q: I heard that you and Kaji performed together for the first time in the reading play "An Eraser in My Head". Can you tell us about your impressions of each other at that time?
Kaji: It's been about two years now?
Iitoyo: It has been 2 years.
Kaji: You're an actress who also works as a model, so my first impression was that you looked like someone who came out of a magazine (laughs). Even though we only had a short time to perform after two or three rehearsals, I felt that we had grown quite close during that time. If you think about it, that reading play was the only time we've worked together. However, I still have vivid memories of that time.
Iitoyo: It only lasted about 3 days, really. Didn't you think, "This girl hasn't practiced at all? (laughs) I was worried that I came off as an under-prepared actor.
Kaji: No, no (laughs). Anyway, the way you got into the show was amazing. Iitoyo-san’s gear completely switched from the rehearsal.
Iitoyo: That's not it, I was just really inspired by Kaji-san. That was the first time I had the opportunity to work with a voice actor. We work in different genres, but I assumed that acting is universal, so I was simply curious how he would act, yet he approached it in a completely different way! It was so shocking, that I thought for a second, if Kaji-san was serious about coming into the world of live-acting, the rest of us would be in quite a panic. He pulled me through the act, so I felt safe and entrusted to him, and the weight of each line felt completely different. Also, in the scene where Kaji-san was crying (during rehearsal), I thought "Kaji-san must really be crying now" and looked to my side, but he didn't shed a single tear at all! Not at all!
Kaji: I was crying on the inside! (laughs)
Iitoyo: But I was surprised that there were no tears at all. He sounded like he was really crying, so I asked him, "How can you do that?" When I asked him about it, he told me that in anime, there are often scenes that transition immediately, and those happen even right after an emotional scene. So voice actors have to be able to adapt to the next scene quickly, without being caught up with the emotions from the previous scene.
Kaji: I'm surprised you still remember that conversation.
Iitoyo: I was so impressed at that technique! But later on in the real session, Kaji-san was bawling his eyes out, with tears overflowing (laughs). I was just so happy about that! It made me genuinely happy to know that even a voice actor like Kaji-san "broke" and gone off the rails in a good way, and that's how great the show was. So it was unforgettable.
Kaji: I’m hardly the type to shed tears, but it was not the same in that performance. Not to say that’s precisely the reason why, but even though it was only a short time, it felt like a very fulfilling acting experience. That’s also why Iitoyo-san has left a deep impression on me.
Iitoyo: Since then, we’ve had quite a lot of clashes at work, haven’t we?
Kaji: That’s right, strangely enough. We haven’t had the opportunity to co-act directly though. But for some odd reasons, every once in a while I’ll notice that I see your name on the cast lineup again.
Iitoyo: It’s not that easy to find people like that especially from a different industry, so I’ve always felt a strange connection.

P.S. As you can see, my scanner’s crap so I don’t have a habit of scanning photos. But if you’re just curious to have a look at the other pictures in the book, feel free to ask and I can take some casual low-quality photos of the contents.
Also I swear all I wanted to do was share that one-minute clip, please don’t ask me why I ended up spamming this chunk of words ‘cause I seriously have no idea myself (ಠ_ಠ)

Okay, this is not news I want to promote that badly, but figured I should clarify since I received a number of DMs of people being confused about the translation I put up on my other blog. Not sure why people are arguing otherwise, but this is indeed an official statement of Okamoto owning up to his actions.
First of all, let’s have a look at the apparent “ambiguous” remark:
大亀あすかさんと婚姻していること含め、事実です。
Some people are arguing that he only affirmed his marriage with Ogame Asuka, and nothing else. But please do not turn a blind eye to the word 含め; meaning it is not simply “It is true that I am married to Ogame Asuka” -- but rather, in its most literal form:
“The matters, including me being married to Ogame Asuka, are true.”
The rest is inferred from the statement as a whole text, have a look at the following line:
妻帯者であるにも関わらず、自覚なき行動をしてしまい 、 大変申し訳ありませんでした。
In its most literal form: “Despite being married with a wife, I made a careless decision, I deeply apologise.”
What do you think this “careless decision (自覚なき行動)” is referring to? Of course, we all know it’s him being caught out by paparazzi. For what though?  Caught out to be married? How did they do that?
Well, they caught photos of him walking out of a love hotel with a woman [see 1&2 & others]. So the paparazzi APPARENTLY called the agency to ask who the lady was, only to find out Okamoto was already married to someone else.
To add on, have a look at the next paragraph that was purposefully put together:
妻には、当然ながらとても呆れられました。
これからを許してもらえるのならば、誠実に妻を支えられる人間になりたいと思います。
This was likely meant to be message from him to his wife, instead of him to the fans. He explicitly stated that, his wife was “disappointed (呆れる alt. stunned)”. Then went on to say that if he may be forgiven, he wants to be a person that can support her “in good faith (誠実に)” from here on out -- which is certainly not a word to apologise for being careless in the sense of “accidentally exposing their marriage”, but most probably, in the sense of fidelity.
In all honesty, I did not want to believe this. The moment I heard the news, I told myself it’s definitely not true. So I clicked into the article to find fault in it -- I hoped I found fault in it. But the information only became truer and truer, I died a little on the inside when I saw the video of him being confronted with the photos on the streets. His reaction was not normal. But somewhere in me wanted to believe that he is still who he made himself to be (it’s a self-serving impression). So I told myself there might be a reason why he was caught in such an awkward photo. But his official statement came, and reality daunted on me.
Before you want to refute anything, please read the original sources carefully. According to timeline:
[1] Bunshun #1 [2] Bunshun #2 (w/ video) [3] Ogame Asuka official statement  [4] Okamoto Nobuhiko official statement
If you call yourself a fan, I plead that you do not avert your eyes from what is truly being said, and accept his words honestly. Don’t add anything or turn a blind eye to keep yourself in denial. I get that it’s not easy for some people, at least, it wasn’t easy for me. Someone had to remind me to not put celebrities on a pedestal, I thought I understood it in my head long ago but I guess I didn’t. I shouldn’t force upon my own values to these people just because I look up to them, really.
One thing remains the same is -- this one adultery doesn’t negate everything we love about him in the past, but unfortunately, what he does in the future will not negate what he did here either. At the end of the day, I can be disappointed all I want but it’s their life and their privacy -- I have no right to judge or probe further as a stranger.
EDIT: Came back after some sleep... dang that was so out of character (╯ಠ_ಠ)╯︵ ┳━┳
Anyway, I noticed I didn’t use my modal verbs. Got lazy but the worst thing I can do is quote Bunshun in a declarative statement.
It’s been quite dejecting the moment I saw how Okamoto only affirmed that “the matters (こと含め)” were true, without denying that anything was false. It’s probably still safe to say that the gist of the scandal is true.
Regardless though, there’s no reason for me or anyone to trust Bunshun’s claims that they actually called up the agency to confirm when they probably just made something up or stalked Okamoto around, but got lucky in the process with their dubious sources. So I’ll go and add “apparently” to my post now.
Ugh, I just wanna delete this. Why’d I end up linking Bunshun as if to contribute to this unwarranted attention. In the meantime, I’m glad that we have a follow-up from both Ogame and Okamoto today. Hope they’re talking it out properly among themselves :)))

[reposting from my YouTube page]
Exciting news! It was announced a few days ago that Kaji Yuki will be starring in an Original Live-Action Drama Series slated for May 2020 -- based on the 2017 award-winning novel 『Piple』 by Harada Mariru.
YESSSS I've never really liked live-action drama by Japan but it's a different story Kaji is starring ⸍⚙̥ꇴ⚙̥⸌ (=totally unbiased)
The story is set in Year 2030, Kyoto -- a world in which marriage with A.I has been legalised. The plot will revolve around the protagonist, Tsumiki Kenichi -- a salary man in his 30s -- who marries a beautiful A.I. and their life together as "newlyweds" A.I. and human.  Though, to borrow Kaji's words in the interview, "Ironically, the more he experiences life with an "A.I.", the more he begins to notice the "human" in himself."
Following the audiobook that was webcasted on ぴぷるちゃんねる (YouTube) from 2018-2019, Kaji Yuki reprises his role as Tsumiki Kenichi in the live-action drama series. This will mark Kaji's first lead starring in a live-action drama {series}.
 ►List of Episodes (audiobook) here
►►►Read the short comic featuring the behind-the-scenes of Kaji Yuki recording for the audiobook last year!

Now the biggest question is... who's going to play the A.I. wife? ♥(ノ´∀`) *coughs* Ayachi liked the tweet about this BUT I SWEAR I'm not going keep my expectations up *coughs* [See] Look forward to the on-air in May! I'd love to but I may or may not sub it!
P.S. Sorry I'm in a subbing slump :/ Lost motivation after my charger gave up on me and I lost the Kaji100 file I was working on... Welp, I’ll get to it sooner or later so I appreciate your patience (-||-)

Not sure if i read this before or i'm just hallucinating lol but did kaji mentioned before his previous jobs (part or full time) before he became a seiyuu or even during his early seiyuu days, before becoming this big and popular?
Yes! Kaji has had to talk about this on multiple occasions :D
Actually, this reminds me of a written interview I translated halfway. It will answer your question in much more depth than me ranting, so I’ll link to it when I’m done!
I was going to go through all the inbox asks first but I’ll be back after translating that. ittekimasu |`Д´)>

Both you and the previous anon, if you continue to pamper me by saying such nice things I’ll get ahead of myself and never know when to stop. For now, I’ll try to continue and develop my non-existent summarising skills.

If you’d like to, send me a message in private and I can share my file to you! although this ask was sent ages ago so I’m not sure if you’ll even realise that I answered

This is unrelated to Kaji100, but what do you think of Kaji’s live-action acting? What do you think of his singing? I remember he took part in an event called AD-LIVE for the past few years. Would you ever sub clips of those? I think many people find the whole event awkward (including myself), but maybe there’ll be some good parts.
Noproblem Nat! I’m happy to talk aboutanything related to Kaji I posted my draft without finishing before so I’m semi-flustered but lemme attempt on making my response more concise (-∧-;)
Q: What do you think of his singing?
If I had to be completely honest with you, as much of a Kaji fan I am, I don’t think he’s a good singer lol
He does appear to have a relatively strong background in music, as already known from the fact that he can play the electric organ to a considerably high level. But it was also revealed when the composer Mitsuda Yasunori guested in his radio program that he used to play the Mitsuda’s songs on the piano a lot as a hobby when he was younger (※Fun fact: Kaji Yuki no Hitorigoto’s opening background music is composed by Mitsuda, listen here). On top of that, it is also indicated that he has quite a keen ear for music by how he often talks about composers (both anime and non-anime), musicals and songs in general.
Nevertheless, at the end of theday we all know that knowing music and being able to sing well are two completely different stories. Ifanything though, he’s not a hopelessly bad singer if he sings at a key he’scomfortable with. Most of his worst songs are because he’s singing “incharacter”, which ends up sounding pretty awkward I still listen to them though Ironically enough, his ‘better’ songs are also character songs. Feel free to talk to me in private ifyou’re curious to hear some of the good orrather, “tolerable ones” depending on your standards.
Either ways though, I’m quitelooking forward to his singing in the future. Not sure how many people areaware but he’s taken up musical performance for the first time (in fact, right now: see 1&2). So he has also mentioned that he started attending vocal classes, hopefully it’ll bring animprovement. But again, singing classically are quite different so wecan’t say for sure.
Q: What do you think of Kaji’s live-action acting?
I’ll have to say he has room for improvement. But as far as I’m concerned with, Japan’s levels of live action acting is not nearly good enough (sorry I just can’t handle any of them). So I think it’s impossible to pursue anything better there.
It’d be good to note that [live action acting] and [voice acting] require almost completely, I say completely, different sets of skills, even if the nature of acting may be the same. But that’s a whole other discussion so I won’t dig any deeper this time, but I may sub some conversations relating to this in the future.
Ad-live if you have to ask me, is not a good gauge to tell how well they can act in person. It’s a completely unscripted and ad-libbed stage after all, so normal standards of what defines “good” portrayal don’t apply. However coming from a huge ad-live fan who buys their dvds and watches almost all of their performances (even those without Kaji), Kaji is one of the steadiest and most consistent ad-libber → also suggested by SuzuKen the producer. He’s very versatile in responding and creating characters that are suitable for the stage’s theme. This is definitely one of the projects I’d love to pick up and sub if I can find the time someday, I’m quite confident to say that your view of his portrayal might change if you see it in full. He’s really good at planning for a story plot.
I do find his portrayal in the short drama series and Kami Voice super awkward and painful to watch. But as I’ve mentioned before, it’s probably just the horrible screenplay, camerawork, his little experience with live-action acting. His reading events are exquisite though, I plan to sub one full performance that I was lucky enough to watch live (paid online, not in person).

Otsukaresama! Thanks for all of your hard work. You're my source when it comes to Kaji-kun ^^ Btw I was wondering if you know if Kaji-kun is S or M? I'm not sure if mentioned this before but in case you know? Haha! ^^
Likewise! All my pleasure to share the love :D
As for your question, this is one of the most common questions asked in the industry, so you can bet he’s answered this countless times. Funnily enough for Kaji, there is an episode in Hitorigoto where he played a psychological test relating to this. It’s a quick question, have a go at it too!
Q: There is a field of red and white roses. You may bring 100 flowers back. Now, how many red roses and white roses will you bring back respectively?
Kaji’s initial answer was 99 red roses and 1 white rose; but he later changed his answer to 1 red rose and 99 white roses instead.
Apparently, the white:red roses percentage indicates your masochistic:sadistic nature. So he laughed and analysed himself as occassionaly being an extreme sadist (99% red) that also has the potential to become an extreme masochist (99% white). Lol honestly I find this psychological test questionable, but it may be a pretty good indication.
If anything, I agree that his position changes a lot depending on who he’s with. He’s considerably good at teasing others if the situation allows him to, which draws out his S nature; but his seniors (with the exception of Shimono, NamiDai and other you-know-who’s) would consider him an M because they tease him so much. If you ask me though, the way he responds to being teased is surely not a typical “M” reaction.
As also suggested by many like *coughs* his wife and Midorikawa Hikaru that he’s an S that disguises himself as an M. It’s an endless discussion because it’s not exactly possible to divide people into either S or M categories. But hope this long rant answered your question in any way 😅

Is there a way to watch the show officially if I live outside Japan? Like subscribing to the channel or something? Thanks for your hard work on the subs! I really love the show, I started watching it because of Nobu but I stayed because of Kaji-kyun, he's really cute.
Hey there! Thanks for dropping by, now onto answering your question…
There is a way to watch the show officially outside of Japan, but unfortunately it’s more complicating than just subscribing to a channel. I myself have tried to buy it myself, but always got stuck at the point where I’m required to use a Japanese credit card.
If anyone knows anything more, feel free to share so that we can all learn how to support them other than just buying their dvds!
apparently this was posted while I was writing it halfway too

Hi Raku, thank you for all your hard work in subbing all this content!! It has fuelled my soul AHHAHA. Are you Sydney based? If so, did you know that Kaji is coming to Sydney Madfest next year?!! I'm hella excited!!
Hey there! I haven’t answered the rest of the asks piling up for months but… I’ll quickly answer this first since it’s still timely (`Д´)ゞ
YES I’VE BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT IT SINCE THEY ANNOUNCED IT IN SEPTEMBER! Although honestly, I’m not based in Sydney so I hoped for it to be Melbourne if he was coming to Australia 😭
Madman fest (Mar 7-8) is literally in the week when classes supposedly start for me, so I’m still trying to wait until more information comes up about the specific time for his sessions. Gonna fly there even if it’s the last second... I’m actually still quite confused about the tickets and guest tokens(?), since I haven’t been to a convention in years, so PM me if you’re willing to talk to me about this more!

Just to copy and paste from my YouTube community post for people who want an update on the recent false “leak” concerning Kaji Yuki & Uchida Maaya.
To those of you who may or may not have come across slanderous gossip regarding Kaji and his "mistresses" (Yes. it. happened. again.), I'm just here to share that his affiliated agency VIMS has released an official statement to take legal action against this matter earlier today.
VIMS statement (Jpn)
HandThatFeedsHQ Report (Eng)
It is just absolutely revolting that people are going as far as to fabricate photos just to sully his name. If you do not know anything about the leaked rumours in the past week, I suggest that you keep out of it because it's not worth anyone's time (it. is. just. stupid.) But just in case you come across anyone claiming those "leak" photos are real, do me a favour to show them this messily annotated explanation (the leak has been long debunked).
Kaji's fans have been doing everything in their effort to not share or mention the gossip, in order to avoid feeding undeserved attention to such false dirt, and in hope that Kaji will not catch news of these nasty things people are painting him up to be. But too late, it ended up reaching him.
Here's a personal statement from Kaji himself regarding this case:
Source | @KAJI_staff at 2:52 PM
【梶】事務所公式からのお知らせの件について、大変お騒がせしてしまい申し訳ありません! 【Kaji】Regarding the statement released by my agency, please let me apologise for all the commotion caused!
諸々の事情で、今は僕からお話したくてもできない状況なので… Due to various circumstances, I am not in a position to talk about this directly...  この件については以上です! So that's all for this matter! ご心配をおかけして、ごめんなさい! I'm sorry for causing you worry!
なにより… But above all... 支えてくださっている皆さん、本当にありがとうございます! To everyone that has been supporting me, thank you very much!
------------------------------------------
Regardless of what people on the internet want to say about him, instead of believing the words of some random online stranger that I know nothing of, I'd rather believe in Kaji's words himself. Although the him we see on media may not be his genuinely "true" self, as he does admit that he struggles to truly expose himself, I'd like to take this opportunity to quote Kaji from this one time when he read a letter on Fukigen na Mononokean's radio (hosted with Maeno Tomoaki) where a fan wrote about her childhood story where a Zashiki-warashi visited her home and healed her from her illness... yes, it probably sounds like a fake story to most of us. And of course, Kaji knew how unlikely it is for it to be true, but he said "I believe her, I want to believe her, because it'd be lovely for it to be true."
I don't know about you, but I feel like he deserves to be believed in the same way.
The attached photo is just a slightly paraphrased extract from the interview I translated a month ago (Source)
Thanks for reading! I'm busy with school now so I'll be selective of what to put up, but if you ever want to talk to me or other seiyuu fans, come join us in the Seiyuu Discord!
Note: Please do not bring gossips and rumours into the group. On the exception that you have a genuine question about them and are not trying to be rude, then feel free to send me a Private Message.

Hooray~! I’m finally done with this episode, it is honestly one of my favourite episodes to date so I had a lot of fun translating this. Though, I’m experimenting with some typesetting this time so I’m sorry if they backfired and turned out messy 😓
Relevant references has been included in the page, so feel free to refer to them (although my explanations are clearly quite slack compared to before). I also notice people asking me how to download the recent subbed episodes, so I’ve made a simple two-step screenshot guide for anyone who needs it.
