Entry # 10: My last day of placement 😢

Hey you all! This is my last Vlog. A quick story why I have a picture with the pilots. Justin and I are with the same gate because the supervisor split us by twos. I asked Justin if he can help me to asked the In-Charge if I can take a picture with the flight deck, so he asked and the In-Charge as the flight and they said Yes. At first I just want to take a picture or a selfie with myself but the pilots keep asking a lot of questions so I asked them if we can take a group photo.

The first officer asked if we are the students of Seneca and he said to us that he studied at Seneca College of Aviation.

When our flight done, we went to the gate of Rochelle and Mila so we can take a group photo because that was our last day except Mila.

Entry # 9: My second to last shift of my placement.

Hey you all! This is the day I start to cry because I’m almost done with my placement.

This is the day I tried to do the announcements for First call to final call, at first I was so scared because everyone will hear me and I have a bad voice that day because of tonsillitis but I still tried it.

I tried to do the boarding pass scanning and passport swiping.

Entry # 8: With My Professors

November 24, 2024

Hey you all! This is my 2nd day of my morning shift. I asked my professor Sara what is her schedule on November so she sent me her schedule and then I asked Ms. Judith if I can switch my old schedule 25th November to 24th November and Ms. Judith said yes. Justin is my classmate at Emergency Evacuation Course so I asked him if he wants to be with me on the 24th of November because professor Sara and professor Charsalee was flying that time to MBJ (Montego Bay) at 1445 and he said he want to come with me. That day we came to the gate early so we can see our professors there.

We took a memorable picture of our professors and we saw what there doing in the preflight briefing. I was so amazed that day because I can only see my professors at school and and now I can see them as a flight attendant. ❤️

Entry # 7: I Got My Purple RAIC

November 14, 2024

Hey you all! I was so happy that day because It’s my first seeing the Air Transat A330 the big aircraft of Air Transat but I didn’t have a chance to go inside and take a picture of the aircraft because when I came in to the gate they started the first call for wheelchairs, strollers and walkers. This A330 has a 2 aisles (wide body).

On the left bottom, It is the new design of the Air Transat Aircraft.

Entry # 7: My first time putting tags on the counter.

Hey you all! This all the tags we need to put on the counter before we open the counter. I was so early this day so I asked the supervisor If I can put the tags before the counter open. Before the counter open we did the briefing for Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

If passenger is travelling in Dominican Republic they need to provide the QR Code and in Jamaica they need to provide the C5 Form. If they don’t have the QR Code or C5 Form they can’t travel.

Entry # 6: My First time to go to the gate.

Hey you all! Another achievement unlocked. It was my first time to go to the gate. The first thing I did was putting some papers to printers. And I saw that one of the employee doing the departure report, they put the time when the first and last crew (flight deck and Cabin), groomers, catering, pre board, general boarding, Final call. They put how many total pax on board, option plus, club class, bags checkin, strollers, walkers, pet in the cabin and bag weight. They get the stickers for the strollers and walkers and put it at the back of the departure report.

One of the employee assist me how to put the option plus sticker on the chair. So we put it at the top of the chair and if there’s old sticker of option plus we need to remove it. We also check the cabin bagage before they go to the airplane if it’s too big they need to checkin the baggage so it helps the airplane with the weight and balance. And I also l put the checkin baggage in front of the door of the airplane.

November 04 and 11, 2024

I usually do the same thing but with no one by my side. I put the option plus sticker by myself. Give the paper for the option plus to the in-charge, putting the check in baggage in front of the door of the airplane.

Update about my Purple RAIC:

I’m cleared with the TS Clearance application form and I have my 2nd appointment on Nov 18, 2024 to get my Purple RAIC. I’m really excited and nervous to get my Purple RAIC.

Entry # 5: I got my Yellow RAIC

October 24, 2024 Hey you all! Another achievement unlocked. The process of my RAIC is not that long I sent my RAIC Form to Ms. Selena on October 02, 2024 and then I emailed her again last October 16 to follow up my RAIC Form if its ready to get it in the office and she said that she will email me again if its done and ready to pick it up. While I'm waiting I got my code last October 18 to create a Gckey so I created my gckey and fill up the applications needed. And then I received an email last October 21 from TSS that the "application certified by the employer" and also the same day I received an email says I can book my 1st appointment in person so I booked my appointment last October 24, 2024. I have a placement that day so I booked it at 3pm. I was so scared of the 1st in person appointment because there's a lot of what if's and then I came there right on time and the she process my application, took a picture, biometrics and last I didn't know that there's a test there and I got the perfect score as long as you read the modules you will pass the test. So that same day I got my yellow RAIC.

I balanced my school, work, part-time job. However, I always see my team members strive to complete their given tasks and give their best. Time flies really fast when I am with these people which I am very grateful for.

These past few weeks, I became more efficient and familiar with my tasks. I became more familiar with the routine in assisting passengers on kiosks and baggage drop-off which helps the overall productiveness of my shift. I achieved this by frequently asking questions from our supervisors and colleagues to make sure that I am not missing anything important that could cause delay.

Again, always grateful to be part of this journey!

I'm still waiting for the email to get the 2nd in person appointment and get my Purple RAIC. I hope that I can get my Purple RAIC. Wish me luck 🍀

Entry # 4: Shadowing in the counter

October 14, 2024 Hey you all! Another day and another achievement unlocked. This day I only just shadow in the counter because it's not that busy. One of my mentor told me to try it just once and she's going to help me. First, I say Hi and I ask her if where she's flying tonight, she said DUB (Dublin) and then I swiped her passport and typed in her name to double checked it if it's the same person, and then asked her if she have the check in baggage and she said no, and asked her if she has the cabin baggage and I saw that her cabin baggage is too big for cabin and I asked her if she can put her cabin luggage to the cabin baggage sizing and I told her if it's not fit she needs to check in her cabin baggage and her cabin baggage fits. I printed her boarding pass and told her that this is your gate B37 and your seat at 38C and your gate is behind you. Have a safe flight ✈️

Entry # 3: Asking passenger where they fly and putting the bag tags.

October 9, 2024 and October 10, 2024

Hey you all! Let me tell you what happened in my days. This is a new task for me because I don't usually go to the entrance of the lines "Filter Out". So one of the supervisor told me to stay at the entrance of the lines "Filter Out". They are strict, especially when it is busy, about not just letting everyone into the lines for the counters, because they are limited in counter spaces as well as the time that it takes to get through the line. They prefer to put the passengers in the counter if its families with babies, elderlies who need assistance, international passports which may need visa validations, Eco Flex/ Club classes, AVIH (Animal on hold), and overbaggaged. We need to recommend most passengers to use the kiosk machines, and I always tell them that there are agents that can help them in kiosk machines and that it will definitely be faster than the counter lines so that hopefully it can take some stress off to the passengers.

Also if its not busy I tried to help my collegues to put some bag tags to the passengers carry on bag and cabin luggage. We ask some passengers if we saw the cabin luggage is to big and telling the passengers to put it in the baggage sizing. and we told passengers if its not fit on the baggage sizing they need to check in the luggage for free of charge and also we ask the passengers if they have electronic devices in the luggage, if they have it they need to get it and put it in there carry on bag.

Entry #2: Daily Routine and Flight list

October 03, 2024

Hey you all! Let me tell you about my daily routine (Placement): Typically I work from 4pm until 12pm. I would have a meal and get ready for work around 1pm then leave at 2pm to be at the airport at 3:30pm. When it’s 4pm, I will go behind the counters and take a picture of all the flights that will be outbound during the time that I work and then I would go to the floor to see what would I do, if it’s not busy I would go to counters and do shadow.

When it’s 5pm, which is not to busy, I would stand in a open visible spot for anyone who is confused to their directions. Every once in a while, I would go into the kiosk area to help those may seem confused and some elderly who needs help. This is also the time that Air Transat takes over the Sunwing counters, check-in kiosk machines, and baggage drop-off.

When it’s 6pm, It’s starts to get busy. I would be at the kiosk machines with everyone else or at the baggage drop-off. They are strict, especially when it is too busy. I also ask the guest if they need help because some needs help and some are not especially elders I always help them. They prefer for the counters to deal mostly with families with babies, elderlies who need assistance, international passports which may need visa validations, Eco Flex/Club Classes and Oversizes baggage. We recommend passengers to use the kiosk machines so it would be faster to check in than to line up at the counters. When it’s 9pm, which is when it would start to not get busy, I would take my break for an hour and when I come back, I will ask the supervisor if I could do shadow at the counters so I can familiarize what there doing in the counters. When it’s 10pm onwards, I am getting ready to be done for the day. But before that, I would ask one of the supervisor first if I can leave and sometimes they would tell you to leave early if it’s not that busy. I am excited to be also part of the Gate Agents. I’m just waiting for my RAIC and I could also do the shadowing for the Gate Agents. I hope that I could get my RAIC as soon as possible. And also I am excited to be part of the briefing of the flight attendants before the take off.

Entry # 1: First Day of my Placement Sept 25, 2024 Hey you all, Welcome to my First Ever Blog. On my First Day, It was very stressful for me to get to the airport as I had to take 2 buses and the subway train it took me 2 hours to be at the airport, and I thought I will be late because the travel was too long. My shift starts at 4pm - 12pm. Fortunately, I'm 15 minutes late because there's an accident on my way to airport. I waited again for the bus for 30minutes. I didn't know where should I put my bag as far as I know is that I can put my bag at the office then I'm worried if I am in the right place. Then I went down and eventually I saw my classmates and I felt not so nervous anymore. The supervisor at the Air Transat showed me how to check in our passengers using the kiosk step by step. She also showed me the proper way to put a bag tag and how to drop the baggage using the machines at the baggage drop off. I enjoyed helping our passengers to check in and its very inspiring to me to see a lot of flight attendants especially my professor walking at the airport, it made me want to push myself harder to reach my dream job when I was kid which is the flight attendant. Quick story: I have a 2 passengers and I'm helping them to use the kiosk and putting the bag tags on their bags. They told me that "this is very nice because someone will help us to do the kiosk even though we travel a lot we still need help" and they also said that Air Canada doesn't have anyone at the kiosk to help them use the kiosk. and they thanked me for helping them at the kiosk. And I was like "Youre very welcome, and Have a safe flight. After they left, I saw a phone that belongs to my passengers who I helped just a minute ago and then I run to the baggage drop off to see if the 2 passengers are there and yes I saw them there and I waived my hands with her phone and she saw me, I went to them to bring the phone and she was smilling and she said "thank you" and she huggged me because she said that her phone is the very important thing in her life. After that I was so fluttered to myself because I saw her and bring the phone to the right passenger.
