Laughter
There it is again. That big feminine laugh from somewhere within the apartment complex. Myungsoo had been dorming with the other Infinite members in this building for a while, and frequently heard the laughter of the new girl group sharing the building with them. It wasn’t his style to check out other girls the way his members tried to do discreetly, but he found himself watching the group of girls whenever he could.
I’m not checking them out. I’m just trying to figure out the mystery of that distinct laugh I’m always hearing. This only bothered him so much because he just couldn’t match the laughter to any of the faces he’s seen among the girls. Myungsoo is smart and although known for being a “cold city boy” and detached from social festivities, he can read people extremely well. So the fact that he couldn’t guess who the owner of the laugh was was extremely irritating.
After several encounters in the parking lot, elevators, and lobby Myungsoo had seen and heard every single one of them laugh. But none of them matched what he’s been hearing. Is she not from this group? he thought. But the arrival of this group and the start of the mysterious laugh happened at the same time. There’s no way the owner of the laugh isn’t among them.
Leaving the dorms first, Myungsoo headed to the emergency stairwell to avoid the paparazzi most likely waiting by the elevators. He had just pushed the door open slightly when he heard it. A tantalizing chortle that erupted into a carefree cackle. The laughter that had been haunting his thoughts for weeks. He had never heard it so close. So undisturbed by walls and barriers that it froze him in his tracks.
When the laughter died down into giggles, he realized how creepy he would seem, hiding behind half closed doors. He took a moment to compose himself and made an effort to open the emergency door noisily, as if he had just opened it. Using his acting skills, he nonchalantly walked past a shocked girl in a black track suit sitting towards the bottom of the stairwell.
She stood up hastily. She looked confused as to what she should do with the cell phone clutched in her hand. She looked firm and decided to just hold the phone in front of her as she bowed properly to him as he walked past.
He glanced at her briefly when politely returning her bow and recognized her as one of the girls from that new group that moved into the building. She must have recognized him because she would not rise up from her bow, focusing intently on her shoes until he had past her. Myungsoo recognized her as the quietest of all the girls. There was no way such a quiet and reserved girl could produce such a carefree, boisterous laugh. Thinking that the real owner of the laugh had walked further ahead of him, Myungsoo picked up his pace to try to catch up with the mysterious laugher but didn’t run into anyone else in the stairwell.
The mysterious laugher was not only loud and captivating, but fast. His failure to catch the laugher despite being so close to her had lit a curious fire within him. He had to find out who this girl was. What kind of person could she be to have so much happiness portrayed only through her laughter?
Myungsoo smirked to himself. He was determined now. He was going to do everything he could to find out who the laugh belonged to.
