Just so yall know. My mother, who is a Catholic Homeschool teacher with an English/ History duel major, thinks that Hazbin Hotel is an amazing show with extremely well written characters. Her favorite character is Sir Pentious because his redemption made her cry.

So real! Indi animation for the win!

I love not pitting indie animation shows against each other and instead embracing all of them. In the midst of ai slop, corporations always choosing live action/CG over full animation, and the rise in conservatism, we have all these shows that just embrace animation (and usually queerness too). I love TADC, helluva boss, hazbin, lackadaisy, gaslight district, murder drones, all of them, just for what they represent. Animation is not dead and it never will be.

And that is a possibility I hadn't thought of. It's hard to tell based solely on one pilot episode what the writing style is going to be like long term. At the moment, it is a silly show with a lot of heart. While there is definitely going to be some angst, I think it will be somewhat tempered with comedy, especially with side characters.

I think it would be funny (and in character as far as I can tell) if everyone in the Smiling Dead knew about Mel except for Mud. It would keep the shock of the moment, with Mud's reaction, but lesson the tension by singling him out. It would also make their potential acceptance of Mel more believable if they only really have to convince one person.

Alternatively, Mud could turn against the whole gang, which would be an interesting source of angst in itself. Or, as you say, Breadhead and Mud could both be in the dark and either come to accept her together or split the gang in half completely. There is also the chance that they both know, which could be a funny gag as well. All are interesting options, and I'm excited to find out what happens next.

For one, Mel is clearly not very good at keeping it a secret, especially from her friends, and Breadhead is her brother. And for another, Breadhead caught Mel [and Ken] after she got beat up by the Mother Angel and was covered in her own black blood. If he didn't know before, he probably knows now.

The counterargument to this is that 1.) Breadhead is too stupid to notice [although personally I think his intelligence is being downplayed]. And 2.) That he might assume the black blood covering Mel came from the Mother Angel rather than Mel herself.

But whatever the case is, I think Breadhead is gonna protect his sister whether she's human or not.

And there's no way in hell Mud knows.
