i think about this every time i watch dbd, but what happened to the guy who was possessed by david the demon??? like this poor british guy is now stranded in port townsend with no memories😭😭 or is it like crystal took david’s memories and david just now has no memory?? but i mean he was literally possessed by a demon so is the demon david or is the demon taking david’s name y’know

more thoughts about dbd stardew valley au:

- niko is able to talk to the junimos

- marnie gives crystal a puppy (like in the game), but ultimately charles is the one to adopt it and bring it home (“what on earth have you brought home??” “it’s a puppy, mate! what else does it look like?”)

- edwin is gifted a cat one day, he does not know why

- esther is also this au cause she’s a baddie- she has a pet crow that she uses to spy on the wizard and edwin (for reasons) but then monty gets tangled up in one of edwin’s training sessions and gets turned into a human boy (shoutout monty i love him)

- charles has major beef with mayor lewis (‘i’m not gonna go looking for your bloody trunks!’) and does everything he can to spite him

- both charles and edwin were forced to live in stardew valley at first, but when edwin found charles in the middle of snowy winter, sopping wet and curled up under a tree, they knew they would keep each other company

- the dandelion sprites are the fairies in the game that can fully grow your crops- except bc it’s kingham and litty they actually just destroy the crops instead (cut to them beating a sunflower with their magic wands) (they haven’t figured out how to use them yet but when they do…)

- charles eventually meets marion and goes up to the mines pretty often- once edwin finds out, he insists on accompanying him

- because of this, charles ends up injured a lot, and edwin usually makes him go see dr. harvey- charles and harvey become good friends as a result (i want NO harvey haters here i love him)

- abigail went one time with charles into the mines…she couldn’t get passed the 3rd floor. charles still has hope for her. edwin does not.

- niko’s hair goes from black to white with the help of edwin’s magic (who is practicing to change his appearance) (he’s been successful about 65% of the time currently)

Todays dad boy thoughts could be very good or very bad depending.

Charles teaching Crystal how to drive.

Very very good: Charles is terrified that Crystal will get injured and is overly cautious. He explains things over and over before they ever even get into the car, and when they do he won't allow her to when start it until she's able to pick out which pedal is correct with her eyes closed.

Edwin "Passanger Princess" Payne doesn't join them until Crystal is allowed to drive faster than 15km/h

Very bad: Charles hotwires a car in the middle of a case because they're being chased by something and goes "do you now how to drive?"

"No I'm 16?!"

"Well no time like the present! That's the gas, that's the break! Let's fucking go!"

"What will you be doing then?!"

"Throwing grenades!"

"What about Edwin?!" She looks and Edwin, a ghost, has buckled himself in in the backseat.

"He can't drive! START THE CAR"

thinking of a stardew valley dbd au since I’ve been playing with the mod, and the idea has been rotating in my brain like a hot dog in a microwave- but like imagine:

charles and edwin have been stuck in stardew valley together, edwin being the wizard’s apprentice and charles having 2 part time jobs at harvey’s clinic (or maybe clint’s blacksmith place?? altho i don’t like clint he doesn’t deserve charles- or if jenny is added into this he could work there?? idk) and tragic mick’s shop (bc he’s here too🫶). They live away from everyone else in the secret woods, so no one knows exactly where they come from, just that this smiley kid named charles likes to run around town all the time. the townspeople never see edwin, so they forget that he exists sometimes- the only person to ever to mention him is charles- and gunther, because the library is the only place that he will go. edwin only really ever needs charles, and the two of them have a great life- even if charles isn’t in love with him back. it’s routine, and it’s perfect for them, so edwin is (relatively) happy.

then the new resident moves into her grandmother’s farm, and she’s lowkey pissed at how messy it is. insert charles, who makes it a point to greet her and help her around the farm, and edwin begins to wonder where charles has gone, as he now is out later and later each day.

that’s all i got but like THE POTENTIAL??? DO YOU SEE MY VISION???

Does Charles miss his life, or just life? Does he really hate being dead, or does he hate how he died?

I've seen some artists interpret the light house crash out scene as Charles missing his old life and probably struggles more with being dead than Edwin. While that is a good interpretation, I don't think Charles's feelings about life and death are that simple.

I think Charles hates how he died and wishes he and Edwin could experience living together.

Because, objectively, dying at 16 from hypothermia and internal bleeding because your racist friends beat you and drove you to a frozen lake is a terrible way to go. No amount of good in Charles after life will change that, so it makes sense he would regret that no matter what.

He grew up in an abusive household and went to school with a bunch of posh rich kids, so he probably wouldn't miss his life, just what life could've been. If he got to be old enough to move out and live on his own terms, old enough to leave his shitty house and shitty school.

Now he's made a good after life with Edwin. He co-founded a successful detective agency, he has a best friend who loves him unconditionally, and he goes on adventures every day. I have no doubt he loves his afterlife with Edwin and wouldn't change that for anything, but you can still love the outcome and hate how it happened.

Obviously, Charles couldn't say all of that because he was reeling from having his worst memories thrown in his face and his friends being scared of him. He makes up for this when he tells Edwin,'I wouldn't want to be dead with anyone else'.

Charles would want to be dead with anyone but Edwin, and he wouldn't want to be alive with anyone but Edwin. He would want to experience growing up and old with Edwin.

i 🫶 the silly dead boy detectives pixels on my laptop

soooo i can finally reveal what i've spent the last 2 months working on...

I made a mod for stardew valley based on dead boy detectives! so far i only have the boys and a few locations, but i've already started working on adding more to it.

if you've never played with mods before, there are instructions on the page for how to install it (it's not too complicated, i promise! if you download from nexus, you do need a free account, or you can download it from my github without an account and just follow the same directions on the nexus page)

i've spent so much time working on this (literally it became a second job lol) and i'm really excited to share :D it would make my day if you guys gave it a try and let me know what you think!

i feel like every other day i see posts being like, “is dbda fandom dead? where did everyone go?” and… no? we’re not dead? we’re very much still here.

i still think about my wip fics all the time; they’re not abandoned. i have more fic ideas, even though the words can be unpredictable sometimes so i haven’t done much on ao3 in a while. but i still have many more plans for fic, lots of gifsets in mind, more art i want to draw, and many, many more thoughts about these characters.

the dbda big bang/minibang is literally in progress right now with tons of beautiful fic and art in the process of being created. the fandom just released a 200 page zine full of fic and art! the fandom is making gifs, edits, fics, art, moodboards, playlists. the fandom is paying for multiple billboards to stay up for months at a time, to show support and love for the show & actors, and continues sending cameos to george and jayden when their cameos are open. there’s a fan meetup planned. there are new prompt weeks/events popping up all the time.

in short… the fandom and its talented and passionate creatives haven’t gone anywhere. some authors or artists’ interests may have shifted over time, or they are in multiple fandoms at a time (myself, i’m currently watching doctor who as well). but posting about how the fandom is “dead” or “abandoned” isn’t exactly the encouragement to create more that folks seem to think it is; instead it’s just baffling and a bit discouraging to those of us who absolutely are still here, creating out of love for a show that is barely over one year old.

maybe folks are not seeing the exact type of fic/art/gifs they want and think the fandom is waning as a result. but the best way to see the exact creative work YOU want to see is ultimately by creating it yourself - however new you might be to creating, there is no barrier to entry! or at the very least, connecting with the folks who are creating things and spreading genuine love for whatever is out there is the way to keep a fandom going.

my headcanon I believe in so hard I forget it's not canon is that Charles didn't actually look like how his memories show he did when he died

what the Night Nurse is seeing and subsequently what the audience is seeing when she looks into Charles' memories is how Charles viewed that night. it's his memories, and memories are biased

when we see the memories in the attic, even when Charles is curled up under a blanket literally about to die, he just looks gaunt, tired, and a little woozy (btw this is NOT an attack on makeup artists what they do is amazing and I'm just building on that)

but we are told over and over that he died of hypothermia and internal bleeding. and I doubt that the rocks that were thrown at him did all that much damage- have you ever thrown something into water? it sinks slowly as soon as it hits the surface. those rocks weren't doing any damage to Charles anywhere that was under the water. so yeah, his 'friends' probably beat the shit out of him first and that's what caused the internal bleeding

but internal bleeding is typically from organs or brain damage and is often visible as mass, dark bruising. but you're telling me Charles had no bruising on him whatsoever?? he was bleeding internally enough that it's listed as his cause of death - not just a side note - it's part of the reason that he died. but no bruises on the face, none on the arms, no bleeding from the head or anything (we don't see his torso until after he dies so I have nothing about that)

Charles definitely felt fucking freezing so of course that's shown in his memories, of course he's gaunt and tired and cold - but the pain can just be passed off as the cold and he had something much more interesting to pay attention to: Edwin

I fully believe that we see those memories with Charles looking the way he does because his focus on that night looking back on it isn't that he was slowly bleeding and freezing to death; but that it was the first time he met his best friend, (and why would he want to remember all the gory details) and that's why he looks the way he does in his memories

Ska is just as chaotic and fun as jazz is.
