What I say: I’m fine
What I mean: In Fullmetal Alchemist, Roy Mustang says “It’s raining” or “It’s a terrible day for rain” at his best friend Maes Hughes’ funeral, held on a day with clear skies. It seems like he says this because he begins to cry after he says it. But when you think about it, Mustang is “useless” when it rains/when he gets wet because he can’t use his flame alchemy. He equates rain to uselessness. So when he says it’s raining at Hughes’ funeral, he means that he feels useless/helpless now that his best friend is dead. The writing in this show has the ability to rip out your heart and stomp on it when you’re least expecting it, then kick you while you’re down. I am NOT okay.

Touken Ranbu Kyo no Kiseki 2: Hizamaru, Souza Samonji
The last entry for my small journey during this event.
I went to Daikakuji on the rather westnorthern part of Kyoto city to see Hizamaru. Apparently, Hizamaru is kept here. To be honest, I have not heard about this temple before this event, and it’s rather far from everything else in Kyoto. However, I’m really glad I visited the temple because, boy, it is gorgeous!
Tumblr media
I love the colours here.
Tumblr media
Daikakuji is close to a pond, and you can view the pond and take photo of the Hizamaru panel at the same time.
Tumblr media
such a photogenic location
The last place I visited was Kenkun Shrine, where Oda Nobunaga is worshiped. The Touken Denshi stationed here was Souza Samonji, who often expresses his hatred towards Oda in the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and someone left the little Kashuu there
it’s a shrine surrounded by greenery on top of a small mountain. You can take a nice walk in the park after visiting it. They sell the special Goshuin for Souza Samonji and Yagen Toushirou here.

Toukenranbu Kyo no Kiseki 2: Ichigo Hitofuri, Akita Toushirou
Awata Shrine is associated with the two well known swordsmiths. One is Sanjo Munechika who forged JMikatsuki Munechika. Another one is Awata Yoshimitsu (aka Toushirou Yoshimitsu) who is known for his works of short swords--the Toushirou brothers in the game.
Tumblr media
Awata Shrine is a nice shrine up hill. Here you can find the photo panel of Ichigo Hitofuri and Akita Toushirou.
Tumblr media
With the chicken (as it is the year of chicken) and the Seven God of Fortune
Tumblr media
they also sell the special Goshuin for Ichigo Hitofuri and Mikatsuki Munechika here!

Touken Ranbu Kyo no Kiseki 2: Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Honebami Toushirou
During the event, you can find Tsurumaru Kuninaga at Fujinomori Shrine in the southern part of Kyoto. This is the place where Tsurumaru Kuninaga once resided as a holy sword and a subject of worship, before getting stolen away from the shrine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next stop I went was Toyokuni Shrine, where Honebami Toushirou was stationed. Toyokuni Shrine was built to commemorate Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who used to possess Honebami at one point of time. There was local market at the shrine when I went there, which was also interesting to see.
Tumblr media
What’s more is that they have Honebami figure at the shrine as well!
Tumblr media
Super cute and detailed!
Now, some of the shrines that participate in this event, including these two shrines, sell the special Goshuin (御朱印) or the kind of stamp and ink written seal given out at temples and shrines in Japan.
Tumblr media
Tsurumaru Kuninaga seal (left) and Fujinomori Shrine Goshuin (right)
Tumblr media
Honebami Toushirou seal (left) and Toyokuni Shrine Goshuin (right)
I didn’t buy all of these, but there are totally 6 Goshuin sold for 500 yen each during the event. here’s the list: Awata Shrine - Mikatsuki Munechika/Ichigo Hitofuri Fujinomori Shrinte - Tsurumaru Kuninaga Kenkun Shrine - Souza Samonji/Yagen Toushirou Toyokuni Shrine - Honebami Toushirou

Touken Ranbu Kyono Kiseki 2: Yagen Toushirou, Fudou Yukimitsu
Yagen Toushirou and Fudou Yukimitsu were the short swords (短刀 Tantou) once kept by the famous feudal lord in Japan’s warring states (戦国 Sengoku) era: Oda Nobunaga. I’m sure many anime fans must have heard his name at some point whether they have studied Japanese history or not--he’s just that famous and so frequently featured in anime.
Yagen and Fudou are stationed at the famous Honnouji, the temple where Oda Nobunaga was attacked and forced to commit suicide. The temple was burnt down during the incident, but was rebuilt and moved to the current location later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s pretty sad to see Fudou at Honnouji, because his character is so loyal to his master and always holding the regrets that he couldn’t protect Oda during the incident.

Touken Ranbu Kyo no Kiseki 2: Izuminokami Kanesada, Horikawa Kunihiro, Nagasone Koutetsu
My next stop for the event is Mibudera (Mibu Temple). This temple was used as the training ground for the Shinsengumi. Since Kashuu Kiyomitsu and Yamatonokami Yasusada are stationed elsewhere, only three sword boys are here.
Tumblr media
Compared to these two, Horikawa is so small <3
Shinsengumi and their story are a regular resource for pop culture, so you can see that many fans from other fandoms also visit this temple to learn more about and pay respect to them.
Tumblr media
The statue of Kondo Isao--the leader of Shinsengumi
Beside this statue, you can see Ema (絵馬), a wood plate where people write their wishes, decorated with illustrations from different anime, such as Hakuoki, Peacemaker Kurogane, Gintama, etc. Interestingly, Ema here is shaped like the blue Happi (the coat) that the Shinsengumi wear.
Tumblr media
the illustrations are unbelievably detailed!
If you like Shinsengumi, then this is a nice little place to visit!
