Using an anti-shipper's logic against them

if you look at the popular trends it feels like a tug of war that shifts popularity every decade or so. i was a child then but, 2000s had a panic about anime corrupting youth and what not; 2010s was all edge and dark comedy; 2020s has been the pushback to that with the anti movements; 2030s will be the pushback to the anti movements, watch.
hot take: i genuinely think antishipping is going to be dead by the time 2030 rolls around. every day i see more and more people changing their minds/confessing they secretly enjoyed the content they were shittalking. people have all of a sudden stopped hating on fujoshis and toxic pairings (they can deny it as much as they want now but yes, toxic pairings were seen as "proship"), and are slowly getting into abusive pairings yandere age gap selfcest and even freaking noncon 😭 ive also started seeing lots of antis age up their underage fave pairings to write explicit fanfic of them while still shouting proship dni lol, some of these antis being adults themselves. theyre getting bored guys, and it SHOWS, cant wait for the inevitable future "antishipping was actually a pretty racist ideology and japanese people deserve an apology" essays
Manifesting so hard🤞

So seriously where's the line drawn for aging-up characters? Like, "don't age-up characters to sexualize them" okay I think I understand what most people mean when they say this. But technically isn't, say. Okay. Hypothetically speaking, let's say someone writes a fic in which characters who were previously children are now in various stages of teenage to early 20s type years right? And that y'know, the oldest siblings are starting to live adult lives and that includes romantic and sexual relationships. It's not something that can be overlooked because it's an important theme into the coming-of-age aspect.
But isn't that technically aging up a character to sexualize them? How would you word such a statement to allow people to explore fictional content in a way that is healthy but also that isn't restrictive? Can you? You see my point here? Anyway, censorship is blunt tool that will inevitably bite you in the ass and what not.

byf (before you follow) seems so much better to me than a standard DNI for one, dni comes off aggressive, doubly when you see people who add insults and swear with them meanwhile BYF comes off as like "hey, this is what i like/my boundaries, so look at this before you follow me" and most people take dni as don't reblog or like? which never made any sense to me tbh- byf doesn't do that as much, it's more of a heads up than anything which is nice and ofc, you're more likely to actually read a byf imo, since you've likely seen multiple of a persons posts before going to follow, gone and seen what their about and their content, and if it's on their pinned post you'll see it when you go to follow with dni's, unless it's plastered over every single post, which is time consuming and often turns people away from the posts, you're not going to know if it's just a person you've seen once and want to reblog tl;dr, BYF seems easier and more understandable than a DNI

#i made my stance on DNIs clear#in a post a while ago#and i think this is a much better way of going about it

"i think we should ban fictional depictions of rape/sa/underage/violence/abuse if it's for kink/porn but not if it's vent art"
And how the fuck do you plan to enforce that? "Vibes" is not a legal argument or a good way to measure how good or bad something is. Where do you draw the line of what you consider "too bad" to depict? Or what makes it so you can tell it's for kink? What makes it so you can tell it's a vent? Who do you decide has trauma "bad enough" to be allowed to make vent art of it? Who is the one deciding if it's romanticised or not? What do you do if someone is coping/venting by using their art in a sexual way? The legal system is terrible at actually catching rapists and abusers, do you really think they won't punish vent art anyways? What do you do if someone vents in a way you find too romantic or sexual?

On the Miraculous subreddit and some people commenting on someone sharing ChloexMarinette art + the hate comments on Pinterest... The artist was a hard Let People Ship What They Want, until I got to the comments and saw *any legal ship with the OP agreeing like???
Y'all are literally shipping high schoolers (I'm being purposefully obtuse) but go off I guess????

It's important to recognize that proshippers can be predators. An adult sending art of an age gap ship to a minor in order to groom them into a relationship is not unheard of. It is a very real grooming tactic online. Of course, enjoying darkships doesn't instantly mean someone is a predator- but implying that darkship art can't ever be used as a grooming tactic isn't helpful. Predators are in every online space, and it's important to recognize and watch out for the signs. Proshippers are not predators, but some predators are proship.

"Be cringe be free!"
Are you cool with proshippers? Are you cool with alt art styles? Are you cool with furries? Are you cool with cute 2000s anime without you calling it loli/shota bait? Are you cool with fujoshis/Himejoshis/Fudanshis/Himedanshis? are you cool with-

"Look at this anti who hates proshippers cuz one groomed them!!! What an idiot, its their fault"
I'm revoking your proship title, I don't care if you have every single proship belief needed to qualify as proship, you should not represent proshippers even slightly, even on a microscropic level, I'm revoking your proship title you lil victim blaimin shitface.
(I have no DNI other then that if I fit your DNI, don't interact with me.)
#tl;dr i agree wholeheartedly#i see this other post a lot#it's like a tiktok comment screenshot#something something about how the person doesn't believe#fiction doesn't affect reality#because they got into proship circles at 12 and ended up dating a 19 year old#anyone can see how the logic is flawed#but the proship people posting it here were all “that's YOUR fault!”#no they were groomed??#like yeah they're jumping to illogical and harmful conclusions#but to say it's the fault of a 12 year old for dating a 19 year old??#nono like#definitely not a good response

Tbh never understood what's people's problem with proshippers. Like bruh Proship just means what ur Pro-shipping, anti-harassment and anti-censorship, not a Problematic shipping, and even if we go after 'Problematic' than it doesn't mean just some incest or age gaps, 'Problematic' also means abuse, love/hate, obsession and other shit what soooo many people like because all that shit is problematic as hell too. Also even If we do exclude all of that... Just why? Like we each day see our favorite characters die and suffer in the most horrendous ways, but we draw a line at shipping becaaauuuuseee...Because why? Make it make sense to me because I'm still at my 2017-19 when everyone was just a shipper and nobody gave a shit about anything being problematic or not, we just shipped what we find interesting.
Also it'll probably be first and last(can't trust myself though) post about it cus way too many ppl I'm subscribed onto are antis so If they'll see this I have no idea what do I do than and I'll have to make a fake identity just to have a right to like their post. Though I tried to stay as respectful as possible and avoid subscribing or interacting with their other socials so I still would see their content(cus unfortunately most of this ppl have lowkey fire content) but I won't be crossing too much of a boundaries, tho I might've missed some ppl cus didn't know what I was in dni's.
Any way let's all stay respectful to each others opinions as far as we don't harm or harass each other and I hope whoever read it has a good day🤗🤗

"writing about fucked up things doesnt indicate your values as a person" and "the way you write about things may indicate some of your values" are not conflicting statements if im going to be real
#this is why i was so neutral for so long#i just find myself in the anti-harrassment-over-fiction camp

Media literacy is such an essential skill that people are losing, it is terrifying how many people are unable to differentiate fiction from reality and fetishistic content from horror (not that there’s anything wrong with fetish content). Many classic pieces of media are being seen as problematic when that is the entire point! Dystopian novels being portrayed as evil when that is the point of them, novels that bring awareness to dark topics like sexual assault and child abuse being accused of sexualising these things when the point is to show how utterly horrifying it is to go through. By not talking about and not seeing this content, the struggles of survivors are constantly ignored and people are completely out of touch with them. People don’t see the impact it has.
As well, horror is meant to be scary, the goal is not to become immune to frightening things but it is to enjoy the thrill and the sick feeling of seeing something so gross and terrifying. Monsters just don’t have that effect on some.
I think, as well, survivors deserve to be able to consume content that allows them to express their pain. If depressed people get sad songs and other media that makes them feel worse, I don’t understand why others can’t. Seeing content around something that traumatised me allows me to get over it; exposure therapy and the ability to cry and throw up, actually physically remove the pain from my body. Sexualising certain experiences has always been a thing as well, reliving it can help to desensitise someone and relieve the constant pain that is eating them alive, it can make them feel like they have power over it when it is on their own terms, and sometimes it is just addictive.
Dark media is not always consumed healthily, but harm reduction is better than nothing. It can save a life, it can give someone a temporary relief until they can work everything out in a healthy way.

Man I don't need you to put a fucking PSA about how you should never be scared during sex, how it's a dangerous and disingenuous way of thinking, on a book that has rape fantasies in a fantasy setting with lust magic and intense villains and - it's insulting, is my point. These people are fucking insulting. It's a fictional fucking book. And not one geared towards children, either. You're a grown ass person. We're all grown ass people here reading this book. Act like we know a thing or two about consent ffs. Oh and don't assume the author's stance on rape because of the characters omg.

i think villains in general provide better, more epic romances because they're allowed to go to extremes. they're allowed to put their love over the greater good. they're allowed to be selfish. the best a hero can offer you is number two, because their duty comes first. villains, though. villains will burn down the world for a last kiss goodbye.

i think there is nuance to the whole "fiction affects reality" argument
sometimes art makes you reconsider an aspect of your morality. one of my favorite pieces of media is a clockwork orange, and it made me reconsider what punishments are "justified", acceptable, etc. that is its intention. it's supposed to make you think about complicated and sensitive things like that.
but if every piece of art makes you question your morals, maybe you should get stronger morals
