I just realized I haven't posted on IG for close to two months. Since then, I ran two half marathons and a marathon. I ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon on Valentine's Day. With that completed, I have completed a marathon in 8 states. I will run two marathons in two states over two weekends in May. North and South Dakota. Can't wait! #KidneyTransplant #Recipient #kidneywarrior #marathon #mbmarathon #running #ig_running #racewithreason #DonateLife (at Cheeseburger in Paradise - Myrtle Beach, SC)

Day 11 - The Tail of the Storm It rained all day today in San Diego. About a half hour before the sunset, I noticed a break in the clouds to the west. That was my invitation to go chase another sunset. This photo was taken at Crystal Pier at Pacific Beach. #sunset #pacificbeach #sandiego #california #MySDPhoto (at Crystal Pier At Pacific Beach)

Day 5/365- Yucca Sunset I really enjoy hiking to the top of Cowles Mountain to view the sunset. Today, freeway traffic was heavier than normal and I did not have time to make it to the peak by sunset. I think I was equally rewarded with a stunning sunset from the half way point. #mtrp #sandiego #california #sunset (at Cowles Mountain)

365 Day Photo Project Day 001 - Jan 1, 2015 Let There Be LIght! I attempted a 365 day photo project last year, but dropped out around September. I'm not one to give up too easily, so I am going to take another stab at the challenge for 2015. I have made a few changes to keep myself motivated. I'll share my rules and expectations over the next few days. #balboapark #sandiego #california #rjf365 (at Balboa Park)

Tomorrow is going to be another great day! I'm going to be running my 47th race since my transplant. :) This bib has two special meanings. The 83 and the 329. My brother Dustin, who donated his kidney to me was born in '83. We had our transplant on the 329th day of the year. The 83 was coincidence, the 329 was intentional. Last weekend I ran the Maine Marathon. I'm on a mission to run a marathon in all 50 states and this was my fifth state. The course was beautiful! The fall foliage makes this marathon even better. If you're looking to run a marathon in all fifty states and still need to run in Maine, I highly recommend this one. I am not fast yet but I'm improving. I was about shave seven minutes off my best time. I finally completed a marathon before the five-hour mark. Hopefully I can improve again tomorrow at the Long Beach Marathon. #mainemarathon #runme #runlongbeach #marathon  #kidneytransplant #recipient #kidneyrecipient  #esrd #organdonation #run #running #instarunner #justrun #ig_running #furtherfasterforever #getfit #racewithreason #donatelife #grateful

I ran The Jackson Hole Marathon last Saturday. It is a well organized event along a beautiful and scenic course. This race kicked my butt! I started struggling by mile 4. By mile 13, my right leg was screaming at me. By mile 20, I was doing a lot of walking. I never considered giving up but at one point, I was beginning to wonder if I would make the six hour limit. Despite my struggles and poor time, I still completed it and I can mark this off as my fourth state. Next up is the Maine Marathon in October. (at Downtown Jackson Hole!)

Running Streak Day 101 - 8/26/2014 - 1.17 Mi My Neighborhood San Diego, Ca After a couple days of consideration, I decided to close off my running streak at 101 days. I have two good reasons why I should stop. In order to become a better runner, I need to mix it up. I will only go so far by just running. I need to throw in some other aerobic sports like biking and swimming, plus I need to start focusing on weight training. I really need rest days. One mile runs on rest days just don't cut it. Rest days allows my body to repair itself and heal. I've been battling pains in my calf muscles for a couple weeks and it's just not healing. I feel confident that 2-3 days of rest will do the trick. The last 101 days has been a fun and challenging journey but it's time to close this chapter. It's time to move on to the next chapter that will bring my running to the next level. I'm ready for the change.

Running Streak Day 100 - 8/25/2014 - 6.25 Mi Miramar Lake San Diego, Ca I woke up extra early this morning because today is a special run in many ways.  Today is day 100 of my running streak. I started this challenge on May 18th, and at that time, I figured it would be a challenge just to make it 30 days. Here I am 100 days later, looking forward to the next 100. Today marks the 98th birthday of the National Park Service. To celebrate this special day, I did the "NPS Birthday 10K Virtual Race" that is put together by @vacationraces. #NPSRunVR #vacationraces Today is the 57 month anniversary of my kidney transplant. I am just three short months from my five year anniversary. When you get a second chance at life, these small milestones are so important! (at Lake Miramar)

Running Streak Day 92 - 8/17/2014 - 13.14 Mi America’s Finest City Half Marathon San Diego, Ca I have been struggling with leg pains for a couple weeks, and I was concerned that it would be tough to finish this race. Little I knew, I would have a completely different challenge; The heat. I did fine for the first four miles. The next four miles were challenging because the heat was really getting to me. I got a second wind around the eighth mile and I breezed through the final five miles, including up the hill from downtown to Balboa Park. The best part of the race was the comradeship with so many others. I got to hang out with my good buddy Tim for a couple days, and I ran into a few friends and other Donate Life San Diego runners along the race. Today was an awesome day! Next up, the Jackson Hole Marathon in two weeks!

Running Streak Day 91 - 8/16/2014 - 1.34 Mi My Neighborhood San Diego, Ca My leg is feeling better today. I did a short run and I had almost no pains. I feel much better about running the America's Finest City Half Marathon tomorrow.  This will be my 28th half marathon with a kidney transplant. I'm very grateful to my brother Dustin who gave me this second chance at life. I will never take it for granted!

Running Streak Day 85  8/10/2014 3.04 Miles Mission Bay San Diego, Ca My leg feels much better than it did yesterday. I think stretching, compression and foam rolling did the trick. I did a three mile easy run because I don't want to aggrivate my calf again. I want to be ready by next Sunday for the America's Finest City Half Marathon. (at Mission Bay Park)

Running Streak Day 84  8/9/2014 2.07 Miles My Neighborhood San Diego, Ca I had a rough run this morning. I started off with a limp, but I slowly worked that out. The tightness in my right calf made running almost unbearable. I planned a four mile run but I changed my mind about a mile into the run. I'm going to give this another day or two. If the pain doesn't subside, I'm going to break the streak and give myself some rest.

Running Streak Day 83  8/8/2014 2.15 Miles Mission Bay San Diego, Ca I kept this evening run short because my leg was still bothering me. Despite the pain, I was in a really good mood. Earlier in the day I had an appointment at the transplant clinic and everything went great! My kidney function is great and I have no signs of rejection. These results confirmed that running every day does not affect my transplanted kidney. I just need to take extra precautions to stay hydrated at all times and avoid prolonged sun exposure. This is why I run early in the morning or late in the evening. (at Mission Bay Park)

Running Streak Day 82 - 8/7/2014 1.00 Miles My Neighborhood San Diego, Ca I had a long and busy day today. I left my house at 7am and didn't get home until 9:45.pm I was out the door at 10pm to fulfill my daily goal. It was tough to get motivated because I was tired. I didn't want to run. I just wanted to relax. I pushed through those negative thoughts and headed out the door. I just did my minimum requirements and headed back home. There was nothing special about the run. I just got it done. I'm glad I did! I made the right decision to run and keep the streak going. Good night!

Running Streak Day 81 - 8/6/2014 3.15 Miles My Neighborhood San Diego, Ca Since my calf is still bothering me, I planned on running just one mile around my neighborhood today. It felt good enough to push it to two miles, then three. It's not healed but it's definitely getting better.
