The character Bo-Katan did not appear in the original outline or script, the part only had the mention of “Death Watch lieutenant”. When Dave Filoni took on directing duties, he thought the character should be female, and one of the first people to meet with Lux upon his arrival. 

Bo-Katan’s helmet shape is inspired by the shape of a barn owl’s face – Filoni had sketched the first idea during an airline flight after a recording session. Bo-Katan’s name is a nod to his wife’s nickname for her pet cat. Anne’s cat “the boogie”, becomes “boogie-cat-anne”, which becomes “Bo-Katan”.

Darth Vader in 7.12 Victory and Death

The process for this design was unusual. Normally I’d create the 2d art and the geometry of the final model would be based on that. This time, I opened the 3D model of Vader from ‘Rebels’ and tweaked it to fit the Clone Wars look. Then I worked over flat renders to make these clean, detailed drawings.
