El Puente Bushwick Leadership Center
This hangout allowed us to get to know the social worked performed at El Puente, we met the team and we learnt how to connect Portable Network Kit Project (PNKs) for Community-owned networks from Community Tech NY. that helps to reinforce digital community resilience in disasters were the main communication systems are down like in a hurricane.

Re-definitions of personal and community resilience
Before the I decided to took this class I considered resilience to be something intrapersonal, something we develop with every experience we have in life and keeps growing.
However, now my definition of resilience is divided into intrapersonal and interpersonal, and the interpersonal resilience expands from partner, family and roommates to bigger groups like community size.
Resilience is more important than ever specifically with the political, social and climate changes we are facing and the ones to come.

Final Project Documentation
As our final project for the class we developed a Watering system
Creating a system that will help us analyze the interval of hours that our plant needs water. Keeping constant the location and necessary water.
We made research on a blue hydrangea. The blue hydrangea requires high volume of water (puddles), so an adequate % of soil moisture would be between 90-100%.
We used
1xArduino Uno REV3
1xMini water pump
10xJumper wires
1x0.5m Vinyl Tubing
1xSoil Moisture Detector Module
Total cost around $33
The code we used was
 int sensor_pin = A0; // Soil Sensor input at Analog PIN A0
int output_value ;
void setup() {
  // put your setup code here, to run once:
  pinMode(4,OUTPUT);
     Serial.begin(9600);
   Serial.println("Reading From the Sensor ...");
   delay(2000);
  // put your main code here, to run repeatedly:
  void loop() {
   output_value= analogRead(sensor_pin);
 output_value = map(output_value,550,10,0,100);
   Serial.print("Mositure : ");
   Serial.print(output_value);
   Serial.println("%");
   if(output_value<0){
      digitalWrite(4,HIGH);
     }
     else{
            digitalWrite(4,LOW);
     }
   delay(1000);
}

As a future development we'd like to obtain data through time
Tumblr media
And adapt the code to different plants like succulents (watering cycles between 20% - 80%) or cactus (10%).

Environmental Condition Sensors
With an Arduino UNO Kit I made a circuit that sensors room temperature and soil moisture at the same time, in the printing tab it can be seen the measure of both sensors is done at the same time.
When I started this circuit I thought that maybe we could see some codependence on both sensors but as I put it into work I realized they don't depend on each other that much, how ever maybe with another tima of sensor we could see a correlation.

Growing microgreens
In the video I show how the microgreens were put in the moist soil and in the pictures it's shown its growth in the days 2 an 3 and the last two are of the 5th day.
Microgreens were definitely easy to grow, the required the minimum effort and filled nutrients and vitamins like C, E, and K. They can be added to multiple meals.

Community resilience
What do you think makes a community resilient?
When every part of the community has the skills and tools to protect themselves in case of an unexpected event.
How is community resilience different from personal resilience?
Because involves more actors, needs preparation and organization so every part of the community is protected, that’s important because everyone has different resources and opportunities.
How are they related?
Resilient people can build up a stronger community.
Are there communities/community-driven projects that you think are interesting examples of this?
There are programs in NYC to build up Climate Resiliency for waterfront communities

My definition of resilience
Even before knowing the existence of the word "resilience" I had seen it and experienced it. For me my parents and my grandma are the most resilient people I know and they have thought my brother and I to be resilient ourselves.
I have always admired them for the challenges they have faced and overcome always ending up being stronger and wiser than before. So far they haven't let any challenge defeat them and as my role models I have learn to live with the same mindset.
So if I could wrap up all I've learned over the years about resilience I would define it as the ability to overcome any situation ending up with a positive outcome, not letting the experience itself change our essence.
I found this page with very interesting ways to build up our resilience, I'm mostly interested in the Perform Acts of Kindness Activities because in the past I found a very healing experience when I perform acts of kindness specially in situations I faced before and I didn’t receive the help I wanted or needed.

Mindfulness tool
Hey!! This is my first post for my Reuse, Rethink and Resilience class Spring 2022. The purpose of this tool is to reclaim some time for myself and I thought I had time for myself before just because I spent a lot of time alone, either on work or the subway. However now I realize that the time I spent alone it's not necessarily quality time for me since I always spend it on my phone or watching series.
This help me realized that to be mindful means being aware of my feelings and my surroundings and not focused on something else.
My mindfulness jar helped me to achieve a level of awareness about how am I really feeling, specially at this time of the year when all want to set some goals for 2022, and put my mind back on track since I recently came back from México where life is way different than in NYC.
Finally I put it next to my window where I keep the special things that remind me of home like my books, my plants, candles, stuffed animals and some art.
