My home will be a home with no loud anger, no explosive rage, no slamming doors or breaking glass, no name calling, shaming or blackmail. My home will be gentle, it will be warm. It will keep my loved ones safe. No fear, no hurt and no worries.

I'd say that 80% of the girls I took photos of today hated the way they look. It's that bad at the high school level. But it took one comment of 'I love your hair' 'those earrings are cool' or 'you have a great smile' to turn that around to about 65%.
What bothered me was... one would not let me tell her she wasn't ugly. I showed her the photo, told her that I loved her bantu knots and her eyes were so pretty. She hated it.
All of it.
She turned around to the next girl and said 'something's up with those cameras because they show you ALL the details.'
Yes! It shows all the details! The details in your hair, the details in your eyes, the details in your clothes. There are no filters on these cameras. I'm taking a picture of YOU!
The filters arent you. The funky angles arent you. The weird lighting tricks they want you to use arent you.
I promise you, really fucking promise you, when you're older you will look at your old photos and wonder why you ever thought you were ugly. Dont let instagram lie to you.

And the whole idea that your teens and twenties are “the best years of your life” comes from the fact that those are the years more people spend unburdened by adult responsibilities anyway. And I wholeheartedly reject that.

If you lost your teenage years to mental illness and/or trauma, I just want you to know that you did not “miss out on the best years of your life” and that it isn’t actually too late for you to have fun, explore yourself and grow into the person you want to be. There’s still plenty of time for all of that. I promise.

one of my personal favourite legends about joan of arc is the claim by rené de ceriziers that “whenever anyone looked upon her with impurity or thought dirty thoughts about her, he was immediately struck impotent forever” (emphasis cerizier’s own)

You should have been aborted
I’ve been reading that phrase a lot today.
I’ve been reading that phrase directed at a lot of people: disabled people, people born from rape, people whose mothers died or nearly died during their birth.
This phrase was said in response to my statement that every human being is valuable and worthy of life.
Because I said that you were valuable and worthy of life.
