When I first started my #HandyBunny project, I never thought that it would lead me to many great learnings and experiences. I can’t thank enough to those who have shown their tremendous supports and appreciations to what HandyBunny stands for. It really means a lot to me. Thank you.

Thousands of hands to perfect every single journey.
The collaboration of Mullen Lowe Jakarta and the national airline Garuda Indonesia, featuring Garuda Indonesia’s crews, 3 Indonesia’s well-known artists; Dimas Djayadiningrat (Director), Davy Linggar (Director of Photography) and Eko Supriyanto (Choreographer), inspired by Indonesian hospitality, synergy and teamwork. A tribute, to all Indonesians.
For three consecutive years, Garuda Indonesia has been named “The World’s Best Airline Cabin Crew” by SKYTRAX. This strongest asset is what sets them apart from any budget carriers that have emerged as their strongest competitors in less than a decade.
“Hands” portrays the intricacy behind Garuda Indonesia’s excellent service and hospitality. It features Garuda Indonesia crew members working hand in hand to create a harmonious choreography that symbolises the airline’s impeccable service.

There are no superheroes. Just us.
We often hear people say, “If I were that person, I would have done this.”
I personally, don’t want to be that person.
I once watched a TED-Talks video that was truly inspiring, not only because of its content (about Malala, a teenage girl that has had a shot in the head for wanting to be at school), but because one of her statements was undeniably true. She said “There are no superheroes, just us.” That hard-but-true statement, has moved my ground.
It connects strongly to me, as I immediately referred back to 2013 when I saw piles of tree branches laid there at my backyard. They just died. It happened for a purpose of exposing our backyard with more sunlight. But I was thinking, was that it? These beautiful branches should go to dumpster and turned into waste just because we decided that we need other things?
As someone who didn’t know much about eco-environment and recycling process, I was romantically thinking of how beautiful it would be, if those dead tree branches can be given a 2nd or 3rd life. So then I did. With my own hands, I painted them, cut them into shapes, and gave them new lives. Some became clothes hanger, and some other became photo frames. That day has changed my life entirely, as well as many dead trees I found along the way.
HandyBunny project -how-I-call-it, is the project whose mission is to give new life after life to ‘dead’ things, or-in-less-emotional-term, an upcycle project. It was born from a simple ambition that I might not be able to change the world, but at least I can recycle.
Also from that simple ambition, I started to study more how to recycle many “used and useless” things and gave them new lives in my home. From baby milk cans into a baby shoe rack. From wooden pallets into a walking closet. From rocks into hot pot trays. Anything (and I meant it when I said anything) can be transformed into new things that are really useful, if you are willing to try.
During trials and errors in the project, I’m lucky to have been able to absorb even more and bigger lessons; how to appreciate things even more, how to be more resourceful, how to do-instead of wanting, and how to make-instead of buying. And most importantly, the process of learning and doing in this project has taught me a valuable lesson on how to live up a simple ambition and let it grow bigger and bigger.
As time passed by, my experience in product designing and amateur carpentry got a little better, thanks to helps from Google and Youtube. A year later, responding to the market demand, I finally got my HandyBunny workshop opened for public to absorb. But actually, the main objective of the project never went shifted. It remains the same and it will stay that way.
HandyBunny project was not born to sell furniture, but to spark an idea to people that; even if we cannot change the world, we can at least start to recycle. And from there, something bigger can grow.
I’m aware that, if I alone, can give more lives to couple of useless dead trees, imagine if 100 other people start to do the same. We can obviously reduce more waste, and together, we will more possibly be able to change the world.
This is also why I never hesitate to share my upcycling knowledge through public workshops, hoping that what I’ve shared can help to inspire as many people as possible to start to recycle / upcycle things from their own households.
From there I also learn the fact that a positive impact of a hope that turned into real would allow another good hope to breathe. My next long term plan is to someday be able to open a school that will focus on teaching kids how to be resourceful in their life. School that will allow them to create ideas, and to eventually make it happen. A place that will nurture children to have ‘DIY’ spirit, so they won’t just ‘want and wait’ for things to change for them. A school that encourages children to make efforts in living up their dreams. A school that I wish had been there when I was just a child, and now is more possible for me to create, if I’m willing to put a lot of efforts to it.
I remember in an interview a TV journalist asked me a good question; “What is your biggest achievement in HandyBunny?” My answer was, “Not much I believe, as I also want to let myself keep thinking that way forever. Because by looking at things from that point of view, a person will see many more things still need to be done.”
I can’t be more agree with what Malala, the brilliant and courageous young woman, has said in her TED-Talks presentation; "There are no superheroes. Just us." If we want things to change for our own betterment, why not try to become our own hero. And make that change to happen.

In 2014, I initiated JWT Disco, the 1st and only annual award show for college students that can empower those who are eager to dance their way into the professional advertising world and be part of JWT Jakarta's family. Yearly, the winner is going to be rewarded a full-time employment and a great opportunity to be overseen by the whole industry.
Together with my team we have succeeded to set this pilot project as the new benchmark in recruiting fresh stars of advertising. The game changing event has gained acknowledgement and supports from nation-wide, even from our JWT regional & global network. The number of submission entries has broken the record of Indonesia's student award entries ever gained by other award organizers. The students’ enthusiasm toward this was overwhelming.
The winner? Meet our 1st JWT Disco Star, Natya Sekar Arum. Not long after the winning, she had also proven that she deserved the crown fairly. Even before graduated from Desain Komunikasi Visual ITB Bandung she has been involved in JWT's big pitches, she has also become a team player and produced her first TV commercial(s). Not stopping there, she has also submitted works for international awards. She finally graduated from university 4 months after joined in, with outstanding achievements in her track record and academic scores.
She continued to surprise us by also getting chosen as an Indonesian delegation to Busan AdStar 2014 in South Korea, as the Finalist in Young Star. That, follows the list of many other young ads competitions she had previously conquered.
And just in months after joining JWT, she has also proven that her young blood is the one that should be most anticipated in the industry with her 1st finalist in Adfest 2015.
Looking forward to the bright future of advertising with Natya and the upcoming stars of JWT Disco on board.

Indonesian youth today is more interested with what modernity has to offer than they do with history. History is considered as topic of the elders and interest in history is slowly dying out both in schools & society at large. Gramedia as the oldest & the biggest bookstore in Indonesia wanted to spark a conversation that can bring people back reading history again. The act involved a massive 27,000 history books used to restore an Indonesian significant historical-ruin overnight. This let thousand of eyes who witnessed the monument to remember how powerful reading can be in studying history. The idea got the nation talking. History has become more & more common topic among Indonesian youth. More than a hundred thousand of impression & response in social medias, emails & positive notes were received by Gramedia. Gramedia has dedicated the biggest section in their stores for Indonesian history books & sales for history books increase 26% ever since. Most importantly, Indonesian youth finally sees the forgotten subject no longer a history.
