Why I go through my saved pictures every other day.
We all know someone who loves to collect something. Whether it be stamps, train models or legos. These people have been here since forever and their behaviour is lindy certified. Even though it might seem like a sign of autism. Collecting things is a very human thing. These days you can collect anything but I think most people collect pictures in their gallery or camera. And so do I.
Do you collect these pictures for other people or for yourself? It can be very alluring to get really pretty pictures and show them to others. Pictures of places where you have been. Where half of the picture is your face and in the background there is one of the 7 wonders of the world. These kinds of pictures I would say are for social media. For personal growth I would advise pictures which are less of pictures and more of text with some strong visual. Kind of like a meme.
Developing your taste and personality Taste just like any other skill. Has to be developed and practised. What many don't know. Is that personality and character also have to be practiced. How can you achieve this? Will you read a list of attributes you wish you had every day? Maybe you will keep a book under your pillow which you will read every night before sleep. The book might be about a story which embodies exactly who you want to be. Just like Alexander the Great slept with a copy of the Illiad next to his bed. You can too can sleep with a collection of thousands of images and matras that visualise your journey. Journey of your life. Friends you have met. But also personality characteristics you wish you could embody. The main thing is to actually go through the pictures.
When do you stop? As your collection grows bigger it will take longer and longer to get through all of it. I usually stop when I feel like it. There isn't much you can do. The human attention only lasts so long. However I would advise that you pick a good time to do this exercise. For example at night after 9pm. It's when you are most in your element.
Tendecies You might get a tendency that you want these images more organized. Maybe some images would better fit into a personal gallery and others into a mantra gallery which you would review every day. This I think is a mistake. We are shaped by our experiences way more than by text or theory. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that is true. Not only are pictures quicker to read. They also tell us much more. Especially if the person has already seen the image. In the days before written language was invented. People used to have paintings. Which they would study. The painting would give you advice, give a lesson or tell a story. All in one single image. Which would be hanging somewhere. And just like everything else. Life really is the same. Images do tell us a lot and way quicker than text ever could. That's why I advise that you keep all your relevant diary images in one folder. Don't try to organise it into multiple ones.
Conlusion:
If you want to feel like you are making progress and actually be making progress you should go through things you have done in the past so that you can get an image of who you used to be. It's almost like a math equation. You have yourself and to figure out who you are you substract who you are not and then you take who you wish to be and add what you did to become that. And it becomes obvious that even though your days might feel like circles you are actually making progress and moving somewhere.
