honestly everything i've read about fs lately nearly gave me a stroke: first zagit*va at FoI (with c/fb), then they're choreographed by lambiel, then c/fb's horrible interview, then shibs come back, then nina broke her leg, then probably no pirihara at the olympics, then the isu is allowing AI generated music into comp, then nika hit by rusfed (as if defending s*rgei wasn't enough) and now grimmsav messy split.

Scores and Program Layouts

As promised, here are the details about the programs in the newest chapter! I always pour a lot of energy into making sure it's as acurate as possible and to provide a little insight into the details that I didn't get to mention.

Spoilers ahead!

First we have Viktor's free skate, which gave me a MAJOR headache honestly. Because I wanted to push the scores down a little bit to leave a little bit room for growth in the next season.

Yuuri's canon free skate record he sets at the GPF in Barcelona is 221.58. In my first version of the story i went with something around the 218 mark, which i think is about what it could've actually been in the show. However, this time around I went with something different.

Viktor scored 214.69 in this chapter.

I took the layout from a magazine translation that had the planned technical content (which I annoyingly can't find anymore...) so it should be cannon. However, I decided to give it a little twist.

Because if there is something I think makes a character interesting it's little flaws. Even in someone as accomplished and respected as Viktor is.

I decided to give Viktor edge warnings on both his Lutzes. Quick explaination for those not really familiar with skating: A Lutz takes off from (when jumping counter clockwise) a left backwards outside edge. The only thing making it different from the Flip is that edge, because a Flip jump takes off from a left backwards inside edge.

Viktor's signature jump is the flip. It's likely his best jump and also the one that has the most meaning to him. He probably feels most comfortable with that jump and might even slightly prioritise it in his training.

Now, it is a common thing that skaters who are good with one tend to get edge warnings or even calls on the other. A warning means they don't stay on the required edge until take off and instead slip on a flat edge or slightly on the other. You'd get an edge call if you completly went on the other edge during take off.

This is often also refered to as a Flutz.

I think it gives Viktor a little twist as a competitive skater to not have him be completely flawless. It might have gotten swallowed by the stories POV, but it's reflecting in his score. And it will become more relevant later on.

Another thing about Viktor's free skate that gave me a massive headache was the monstrosity that is the 3A+3Lo+3Lo in the second half. What a fucking maniac honestly. Also a reason why I had to find a reason to deduct him elsewhere bc that monster ALONE is worth 20.57 points in base value are you kidding me Viktor??? I went in depth on why I think this is rediculous in another post lol.

Also finding this out kinda kills my vibe of the loop being Viktor's weakest jump but oh well I am rewriting this anyway am I not...

As for Yuuri, I don't think I need to go into much detail because most of this reflects in the chapter.

He lost points because he fell on the loop and also landed it on the quarter, as well as underrotated the Salchow. Everything else was pretty solid.

One thing you can tell for both of their scores is that I don't ever give out perfect +3 GOE. I needed to give both a bit of room to grow.

I gave them both equal scores in skating skills and Interpretation. Though in retrospect, I probably should've put Yuuri under 9 for Interpretation as well...

One thing I wanted to make clear here too with that PCS is...Yuuri really wasn't overscored. And fans might even argue he was actually underscored if you take Viktor as comparison. Just like Viktor admitted himself, Yuuri's skating skills might even be better than his own...yet Yuuri receives the same marks for them and less for his transitions.

Well, I think this is enough of me geeking over scoring things lol.

Summary:

As the World Championships come to a close, Yuuri is confronted with how his life might have to change now...and while Yuuri looks towards the future, Viktor is still caught up in the past and trying to numb his pain.

Preview:

After the press conference, Yuuri quickly slipped out of the room and into a quiet hallway before anyone could get a hold of him. He didn’t want to talk to anyone else really…especially not any officials who would probe him about what his next steps would be. There had been enough reporters asking that question, rephrasing it in ways Yuuri hadn’t thought possible every time he deflected. He had had media training, but none of it had prepared him for how relentless they could be when they really wanted you to crack.

After the first two avoidant answers Yuuri had started to stutter, stumbling over his words, openly fidgeting with the hem of his jacket and nervously chugging water. Starting with the fourth question he had been sure that they had caught on to how absolutely unprepared he was for what was to come now that the bar of what the public defined as success for him had been raised so incredibly high all of the sudden.

There were no next steps. There was no plan. There was just want. But there wasn’t much to achieve with want alone. He couldn’t want a gold medal into existence, that sure as hell hadn’t worked out his entire career so far.

And while Yuuri had tried and failed to sound at least confident that there would be a plan soon, Viktor Nikiforov had seemed very certain of what would come next.

He had outlined it very well. First he’d return to St. Petersburg for a short vacation, spending the quality time with his dog she deserved, which had of course made the press pool swoon…but Yuuri’s heart cramp.

Then he would star in multiple ice shows across Europe and the States. All while choreographing his new programs. And after that he said, he would consult with his coaching team about how to further increase his technical content to “Keep up with the ever changing field and new challengers” as he had said while shooting a quick, daring side eye to him that Yuuri had pretended not to notice.

It all felt weirdly damning again. There was no dog to go home to. There were invitations to shows in his E-mail inbox he had never responded to and by now those offers had probably long expired. There was no coaching team he really trusted anymore or maybe he never had…

Well hello again! Look at me being productive and publishing another chapter after not even a month has passed! I am totally not procratinating my big assignment! Haha :D

Anyway... Those who read the first version of this fic may notice what drastic changes are to come and I really hope I won't regret this...but I really don't think Yuuri could thrive under Celestino without major changes. So we will be going down a different road. I hope you'll like my approach to this in future chapters!

As for Viktor...I really want to continue with trying to make him seem less one dimensional...it was something that really bothered me in the first version of this fic. Yes he is still a jealous ass in this chapter like he was before as well...but I hope I let the underlying cause for that jealously and possesiveness shine through at least a little bit.

All in all, nothing much for me to geek out over in this chapter lol. I hope you like it <3

Had to make the decision to restrict access to my works to only registered users on ao3 in the hopes of protecting my work from being scraped for training AI...and it's pissing me the fuck off.

Because those losers are out here bitching about how art isn't accessible and here we are...I am forced to make my writing inaccessible to many to protect it.

So far I think only 1 of my works was affected. I checked the ID numbers and it should only be "Maybe my Soulmate died...". And when I say only...it's not really only. It's still one too many. And it's honestly shaking me that it was that work exactly.

I never consented to this. To someone to take my piece of writing that I poured my own heartache into to train an AI to fake those very emotions.

I often use writing as an emotional outlet. To deal with what is happening in my life, to sort my thoughts and identify emotions...visit themes that keep me awake at night.

I don't know if I would be less pissed of it wasn't such an emotional piece to me...but the thought of AI taking those very real feelings I had at the time and swallowing them to spit out a distorted, unreal version of it is sickening to me.

I so wish people would understand the impact of AI on the arts. That it isn't "just" a putting creative people out of jobs fear, but also a fear of how human emotion is preserved and passed on. I keep thinking about how stories have been passed down for generations, oraly or in writing, keeping traditions alive and also telling us so much about what moved people at the time.

And I am not saying that fanfiction should be seen on the same level as a classical novel. But still. There's heart and soul in it. And it's filling me with sadness that part of our legacy, of what will be passed on might be a soulless sludge of other people's hearts.

Figure skating fans I am so curious about this. I've always been more impressed by height until I watched Alyssa Liu at worlds this year and the speed that she rotates just blew me away.
