A hell of a lot of stuff has happened in 8 years.

Splinter was murdered by the Shredder, Mikey lost an arm trying to avenge him, Raph had a quick romance ending in being dumped with a kid, Donnie made a kid in his lab, Leo is in dating age (OH NO LEO IS IN DATING AGE) but the most tragic of events was that due to his species of turtle, Mikey is now the smallest big brother.

Also they're all traumatized.
