sends her a very nice arrangement of very pretty flowers, a bottle of GREAT wine, and a gift card to the weapons shop in town.
It didnât bother her. Really, it didnât bother her. The Trepies were the only ones to send her valentines again this year, and that was completely fine. Absolutely. No problem.  Quistis repeated the sentiment to herself under her breath in an unbroken stream of muttering that grew a fraction louder whenever she passed another pair of heavy handed adolescents - but still not loud enough for anyone to hear.   It wasnât that she was jealous of the relationships she saw as she passed on her way to her room (another date with Pennyâs recommendations list), it was that she worried that perhaps she ought to be jealous. Was she getting a bit old to have no part in this⌠dating thing? Would she wake up one day and suddenly regret all the time she spent studying and working instead of⌠well, what is it people do to find that kind of partner?   With a heavy sigh, she unlocked her door and closed it behind her without switching the lights on. She could see well enough by the half-light coming from the window - or so she thought, until she tossed her ID badge onto the table and heard a distinctly glassy sound, then a clatter as it bounced off something and onto the floor. Quistis felt for the light switch, and when she saw what it was her badge had hit, her head tilted and she blinked in confusion. She hadnât left any wine bottles out (certainly not any full onesâ ah, that isâ I meanâ); and flowers? She approached the table with an instinctive caution and a pre-emptive annoyance, half expecting that one of the Trepies had finally crossed her final boundary. But it was Xuâs handwriting on the card, she recognised it clearly - and no one else would know her taste in flowers or in wine that well. Or in gift cards, in fact.   Quistis stood with the card in her hand, reading it over repeatedly, as if she couldnât fully comprehend what it said. She wasnât really taking it in past the first time, though; she was only distracting herself from the odd feeling that had begun to rise through her, giving her butterflies in her stomach, making her heart falter and finally making her head feel fuzzy, somehow. Something in her mind demanded attention, and she ignored it without really knowing what it was. Putting the card back down on the table, Quistis smiled. The clock above the table said eleven - that was really too late to go over and thank Xu, wasnât it? Yes. Yes, it was too late for that sort of thing. Xu would be asleep, she had a busy schedule tomorrow. Quistis knew she ought to sleep too, she had a full day of first years to teach.  So why was she grabbing her ID badge and heading out?

The URL of my new personal is a weapon from Bloodborne (+ an extra "i" because someone already took rosemarinus). So, naturally, my brain is floating around making offhand Bloodborne verses for all my muses. Quistis would be Church. High ranking, at that. Completely on-side with the Choir until she realises they're corrupt. It seems like a good equivalent to her instructor status in VIII; she's sacked from that and ends up roaming around with a load of MCR fans, so in Bloodborne, it makes sense to me that she'd either quit or be fired when she finds out they're not really that interested in the wellbeing of Yharnam. She'd carry on as a Church Hunter. So, slight divergence from summonerspath's Bloodborne verse, though he was Church Healer, so it's unlikely they crossed paths unless he did something wrong.

I made a new personal, so if any of you have @rosemariinus follow you, it me. Itâs an attempt to a) move away from my old one because it pigeonholes me a bit though I donât really wanna delete it because my ouiabeux joke has like 10k and b) itâs game related so Iâll be marinating in source material and should lose the ability to write less often.

âW-what--?!â   How did she get here? Where was that voice coming from?   Quistis remembered... leaving her office, coming back to her room... she ate, tidied up, sat down to read something... what happened after that? Why couldnât she remember anything else?   The scenery around her was muddled. Here was the blue front of the Balamb Hotel, beside the half-melted image of the Centra lighthouse. The ground under her feet was paved somehow... she recognised the pattern. Something about it brought memories of long grass and chocobos. But this place was not welcoming, nor as sunny as that place she couldnât quite remember.    âWhoâs there?â

âAhh. Would you?â   She makes a short trip back to the desk sheâs been using to fetch the coffee that sheâs quickly beginning to think of as mud water, then places it on Pennyâs counter, the ceramic making only a quiet tap on the wood.    âThatâs a good idea.â she sighs, âIf only theyâd actually listen to it. The heating goes out for a few hours, you turn your back for a minute and when you turn back, theyâve all junctioned Firaga and are threatening to burn Dinchtâs shorts for warmth. Or is that just Almasy?â   Another sigh.    âMaybe I should have been a librarian. Itâs not as if you see that much less field work, but you donât have the privilege of teaching.â
âInstructor,â Penny returns the greeting with a slight smile. âI wish we did, Iâd have a copy or three in every classroom. Unfortunately for all of us, I donât think anyoneâs written it yet,â she adds with an irritated twist to her lips.
âWhat I can do is tell you Iâve got a little hot plate I keep back here for my tea, which can make that coffee slightly more palatable, which may make the idiotic things the cadets do slightly easier to handle.â
âOr we can just start telling the kids that if theyâre not in the Training Center or in Practical Paramagic class, they canât be junctioned? Thatâll stop them from casting spells and frying sections of the wiring, at least.â
#ontheflyleaves#it is now canon that the librarians are as field active as most seeds#i reject all other conclusions#penny is not just a book shelfer

â Â @summoners-pathÂ
cont. from:Â â
âOh, I canât keep this.â she sighed.   This was a conversation sheâd had a few times - it seemed very few people ever thought of the implications of this kind of thing, and who could blame them? Anyone else would see a pile of sweets in this room - she saw an occupational hazard.   âI have to report it. Usually, I leave it to the end of the week and report all the instances at once, but this... âYou see, if my students achieve high exam grades - and they do, they are my students, after all - then this could used against me. It could be considered a bribe. Then my job and their place at Garden could be in trouble.â   Quistis sighed heavily again.    âWell... at least the Faculty staff room will be well-stocked for a while...â
