Mikey Way's never beating the gay allegations: a brief guide

Includes women too

Preface: I will not be covering everyone he has had a relationship with. Sarah em will not be included out of respect to her and her family. Kristen will not be covered because she is his wife and not really a public figure, and there isn't really much info about her in general other than what she mosts on instagram. Ultragrrrl was with mikey around bullets era I believe, but I don't have enough information on that to cover it. If anyone does, feel more than free to add it on to this post. In general if there's anything that i missed, feel more than free to add on to this post.

Let's start with:

Gabe Saporta

Mikey and Gabe met while Gabe was still in Midtown, the pop-punky band he sang and played bass for before he formed Cobra Starship. While I don't know the exact moment that they met, I believe it was sometime around 2001-03. Gabe was(is) also friends with Gerard. Gabe has been pictured grinding with Mikey (Gabe has a aknowledged this picture multiple times) and it is generally speculated that they fucked. Gabe has also been involved with the whole decaydance scene and there are pictures of him kissing Pete Wentz and generally being close to other men. Gabe is aware of the speculation that he and mikey were gay together and has made that infamous "I wouldn't call that GRINDING" tiktok in response to that photo (captioning it "it was more like a slow dance"). Last night (the 21st of September, 2022) Midtown opened for My Chemical Romance in NJ, and Gabe dedicated their cover of "When You Were Young" by The Killers to Mikey Way. Pretty gay.

Pete Wentz

The rumor of Pete Wentz and Mikey Way being together during Warped 05 has been prevalent in bandom spaces for literally 17 years. There is a lot to it.

While some believe that Mikey and Pete first met in 05, they actually had first met in 2003 when MCR played a show in Chicago. In 2004, both MCR and FOB played in Warped 04. It isn't known whether or not they were friends at this point. In spring of 05, Mikey was spotted wearing Pete's white denim jacket at a FOB show in Florida. Shortly after, Pete posted about having a crush on someone he talked to near daily and white denim jackets. Gayboy. Mikey and Pete formed the Sweet Little Dudes, the gang that they were the only members of. It only became widely speculated that they were more than friends when summer (AKA Summer of Like) came around and Warped 05 started. Pete posted that amazing new mexico sunset thing ("Amazing new mexico sunset. I'm hanging on a bridge with my friend mikey from my chem. Its all orange and pink above us. We went to another water park again. I love high fives again. Totally back in love. Saw the most amazing movie.. i think it's called spirited away. Watch it") and the gay rumors really started. Pete kept on posting stuff about being in love, and on the 17th of july, he posted Summer of Like, aka the original bang the doldrums. It was literally bang the doldrums but more personal and also "the waists of pants feel better at the ankles". One thing really worth pointing out is that, while in the bang the doldrums lyrics, the line is "i wrote a goodbye note in lipstick on your arm when you passed out", but in the summer of like lyrics are "I wrote a goodbye note (you just wrote me off) on your arm when you passed out", meaning the lipstick part was only added on later. This is meaningful because there are pictures of Mikey playing onstage with "EASY" and "FUCKED" written with sharpie on his arm. Interesting...

The gay allegations were not helped by the fact that they were seen together OFTEN. Mikey would fill in for Pete onstage, Pete would watch Mikey play from the side of the stage, they would walk around together (refusing pictures, of course). They were seen holding hands and hanging out in the same buses. Mikey was also seen wearing Clandestine Industries clothes a lot. Pete continued the gayposting on livejournal, talking about kissing and waking up next to someone, love and lust, fingertips on zippers, staying up late, being in love. And then it was about heartbreak around the end of July, when he made a post (SPECIFICALLY about a boy) expressing horrible heartbreak and calling (speculated) Mikey a boy with no heart. Damn. And how love is suicide, just really, really sad shit that was just pure heartbreak.

Mikey and pete remained friends into 2006, even when the Heychris thing happened (will explain more later) and chris and Mikey took weird homoerotic pics together and chris captioned it "found a new love" or whatever. This made pete super angry, but him and mikey remained friends. Mikey even made some "joke" or whatever you want to call it, "me and pete arent dating. We are heterosexual males.... sorta... maybe.. uhhm.. next!".

Okay so a lot of people have a lot of different things to say about which FOB songs are about Mikey. While there are tons of different theories, I will only cover a few.

Bang the doldrums. The infamous petekey song (also, did you know that the chorus isn't just patrick saying "yo ho ho ohhh yo ho ho"? He's saying "You're wrong, Are we all wrong?" But he drags the all out like "ah ha hal" so it kind of sounds like yo ho ho. Just a fun little fact). The lyrics are based on Summer of Like, with some lyrics changed and some not. Like I mentioned before, there were some lyric changes, and I believe the lipstick one was to make it seem like it was written about a girl. "Happily ever after below the waist" is also interesting. It kind of parallels pete's "gay above the waist" thing. There isn't much to analyze about this song that hasn't already been analyzed already. But i love it. I think "And I cast a spell upon the west to make you think of me the same way i think of you" is one of the most romantic things ever. Anyways. Best friends ex friends till the end better off as lovers not the other way around.

Fourth of july this one is widely speculated to be about mikey. On the fourth of july in 2005, pete made some post saying "hot and miserable but totally in love" fourth of july contains such classic lyrics as "I'm starting to forget just what summer ever meant to you, what did it ever mean to you?", "I miss your early morning company, if you get me", "You are my favorite 'what if', you are my best 'I'll never know'", "It was the fourth of July, You and I were, you and I were fire, fire, fireworks. I said I'd never miss you, but I guess you never know", and the classic, "I wish I'd known how much you loved me, I wish I cared enough to know. I'm sorry every song's about you, the torture of small talk with someone you used to love." How interesting. It's obvious this song is about the summer of like, and how things moved too fast and now pete misses it (that's how I interpret it at least).

There are more songs that are speculated to be about mikey in some way (not saying they are for sure, I'm saying people theorize that they are): I've got all of this ringing in my ears and none on my fingers, Thnks fr th mmrs, I'm like a lawyer with the way I'm always trying to get you off, the carpal tunnel of love (okay thats more of a personal theory but still), okay thats all i can think of right now but still.

Anyways, Pete and Mikey are still friends, still talk to eachother, still hang out sometimes. There's even a picture of them from from semi recently hanging out. I think pete is going to continue writing songs about him though tbh.

Heychris

This one will be more brief. Heychris (Chris Gutierrez) was one of the members of Arma Angelus (a hardcore band pete was also a part of before fall out boy). The song "Grenade Jumper" by fall out boy is about him. In 2006, Pete and Chris got into a fight (Chris said Pete was trying to steal his girlfriend) and Chris posted pictures of him and Mikey together, hugging, and basically cuddling in bed together, captioning it saying he'd "found a new love". This hurt pete a lot and i think him and Chris made up but I have no idea how their friendship is now. Chris and mikey are still friends, and Chris drove out to Detroit to see MCR and mikey when they played there. Chris loves to joke about the gay mikey way stuff. On that note Chris is really funny. Anyways realistically I don't know if they fucked but I'm putting him on the list anyways.

Alicia Way

Alicia Way, formerly known as Alicia Simmons, is a (former) guitar tech, who toured with many bands, such as Fall Out Boy, 30STM, Slipknot, Evanescence, and more bands, as well as being the temporary bass player for From First to Last in the 05-06 period. Alicia and Mikey met sometime in the 04-05 timespan. I believe they were friends for a little bit before they started dating. I don't know the exact moment they started dating, but there's pictures of Alicia and Mikey kissing during the time she filled in for bass for fftl. I believe that Alicia said they weren't together during the summer, so they must have gotten together some time after that. They got engaged in late 2005, in December. Alicia is also part of wmhc (World's most hated crew). Funnily enough, Heychris was also part of wmhc. Alicia actually got a ton of internet hate (hence the title worlds most hated crew) when she and mikey got together. Basically for just existing. There were hate groups dedicated to her. Literally nothing to warrant any of it , I think some people were just jealous , and others wanted to find anything they could to nitpick. Anyways, Mikey and Alicia got married in March of 2007. They had a few pets (my fave of which being their cat, Bunny marie Way) and I believe they had a house (or apartment, don't know) together. It's unclear when they broke up, I couldn't find an actual date or clear time frame, so i am going to say for sure it had to be some time from 2011-2013. Very wide timeframe i know but I don't know much about their actual divorce and frankly, it isn't really anyone elses business but theirs. But they had a messy divorce situation, it's unknown the exact cause for their divorce. I am not going to get into that situation here but basically, they aren't together anymore. It's not known if they have any type of contact anymore, either. I think demonizing alicia is stupid and unwarranted. She's awesome and I believe she is doing good right now, and is in a good relationship.
