Sideblog for rotationalsymmetry's animorphs read-through and other animorphs related posting. I am an adult and there is swearing. Spoilers are not reliably tagged. Profile pic is one of the covers of book 1: Jake is shown half morphed into a lizard, and it is very green and disturbing.

I guess you could say I kind of like Cassie.
Yep, essence of middle schooler has been achieved.
Sometimes we sit together on the bus, even though I never know what to say to her.
The delightful not-really-dating-ness of sometimes sitting together on the bus and wanting to have a conversation but having no idea how.
I do actually kind of appreciate that we don't really have dating drama in the sense of not really having love triangles or "these two characters were dating for a while and then they broke up and now this one's dating this other person". We have two "couples" within the Animorphs, the attraction is mutual, and it doesn't change over the series. (As far as I'm aware.) I'm not sure whether that is realistic for middle schoolers, but eh, don't care.

Marco and I had run out of quarters for the games
Hmm. Given Marco's home situation, how much do you want to bet that's Jake running out of quarters and generously pretending that they've both been contributing?

I'm writing this all down so that more people will learn the truth. Maybe then, somehow, the human race can survive until the Andalites return and rescue us, as they promised they would.
Damn, I forgot the series flat out started this way. The Andalites are coming back to save us. Right? Right???

Cassie passing out after all that seems a lot more plausible than if she hadn't. That was a LOT of morphing in a short period of time.

Suspension of disbelief suspension of disbelief -- a human dies falling and hitting water from high enough surely a much bigger whale would also die from hitting the water from a height big enough to demorph and remorph -- suspension of disbelief suspension of disbelief.

Or perhaps not! Cassie didn't kill the buffa-human for all the wrong reasons. But it did work out for her.
Oh wow.
So, one thing I think about sometimes, going through this series, is which stories are load-bearing, essential to the overall story, and which ones aren't. I think this one is. Because however the end game goes down, this is going to be part of it, Cassie having a moment of not being able to do the tough, ruthless thing. And immediately after she gets fucking attacked by an ant-Cassie hybrid.
Because, I mean. Wouldn't you be a lot more willing to do the tough, ruthless thing after something like that?

Cassie hid the morphing cube *in the barn*. Surely this can't be the first time some bug has walked across it.
Oh well. Suspension of disbelief.

Welp, Cassie, that's the wrong answer. I can't blame you though.

One of the interesting things is, likely Cassie has euthanized animals too wounded to survive with a good quality of life. If she hasn't, her parents definitely have, routinely. The issue isn't killing an animal. The issue is it being...human-ish.

The damn buffa-human is naked, isn't it? The kids now know what their vice principal looks like naked.
(Or not. Earlier it was described as still being covered with thick black hair. Yeah. Let's just assume that's the case.)

I do love the smooth transition from the main source of tension being oh no we're finally going to get caught it's all over, to the moral tension of "ok this thing can't live, but it seems wrong to kill it."
Honestly not sure where the story is going to go with this one. Something/one else killing it would remove the moral dilemma. But would that be satisfying? What is Cassie going to do if the choice isn't removed for her?

I don't get it, why is Cassie jumping into a ravine to escape Hork Bajir controllers? Hork Bajor come from a giant, forested ravine. That's home to them.
