Read my review of the Kings’ first fight in EU LCS!

The EU LCS has a lot of strong teams coming into 2017 to make up for the lack luster performance demonstrated last year where a rookie team becomes Spring and Summer champions in their first year, completely overthrowing EU’s Kings, Fnatic. Origen, EU’s powerhouse and IEM San Jose’s champions were thrown into relegations after the Summer split and a team where they started from the bottom all the way to the top! Making a Worlds appearance, Splyce.
2017 is a new year, and after the off season, a lot of teams are looking stronger than ever.
While teams are separated into two groups, we will review the teams in total.
#10 ROCCAT
ROCCAT’s team roster is of the typical, we all know much of these players and their talent, though it may be enough for them if they want to stay in the LCS but it won’t be enough to bring them to the quarterfinals.
#9 GIANTS! Gaming
Gathering up players who barely made a name for themselves, this team has a lot to go through before they can make another quarterfinals performance. Although it could be tough, NighT is one powerful player and can turn tables around just by being himself so it could be hard to tell. For me, the only reason Giants isn’t at #10 is because of NighT who we know at 2016 brought the team to quarterfinals.
#8 Misfits
The rookie team of the EU LCS. We all learned to never underestimate the rookies, and this is no exception with Misfits. A powerful overall roster and an aggressive playstyle, every challenger team that has ever gone against Misfits faced a 0-3 defeat. Misfits is on a level higher than its Challenger competitors and even possibly LCS caliber. And with Kakao who came back from retirement, may give Misfits a run for their money
#7 Origen
I’m not doubting Origen to win however this is their first year with a clean sweep of their roster. No matter what Origen fan says about Xpeke knowing what to do and being team captain, we can honestly not really tell the output and where this team will end up in 2017. Having rookie midlaner, NaeHyun along with Challenger players, Satorius and Hiiva with an up in talent with previous Koo Tigers and Misfits Jungler, Wisdom. We can already tell that Wisdom will be the one making plays here, with the entire teamplay being centered around Wisdom and the jungle, and perhaps the best jungle matchup against Kakao, jungler of Misfits.
#6 Splyce
A terrible play at Worlds and a lack of achievement to show in the EU, they’re faith in each other will start lacking as the teams start gathering more and more talent to the EU scene. Teams stepping up in their player talent, adding stars from across the regions, will quickly overshadow these players. Yet, these players know what it feels like to play internationally, they could still make a finals appearance but it will be unlikely.
#5 Vitality
To be honest, Steelback is all they need to bring this team higher. Having to switch players in the ADC role for the entirety of the 2016 Summer split, was a bit confusing and it lost to whatever team dynamic Vitality had compared to the Spring split. Steelback along a well-known LCK support plus with core members Cabochard and Nukeduck with the addition of Djoko, who placed second in against Misfits in CS Summer playoffs will set themselves as a respectable team in the LCS.
#4 Unicorns of Love
With their most recent success at IEM Oakland, taking down NA champions, TSM and Worlds team Flash Wolves. The team has finally gathered experience with international playing, placing them a step higher than most teams. Returning to the EU LCS, alongside their success in the Summer split of 2016, the team can bring up some numbers to the board, they won’t go down easy.
#3 H2K
A consistent mid laner, a powerful jungler, and an adaptable top laner, right now H2K has a steel core which will keep the team on the higher spot. With the addition of Nuclear, former SBENU Sonicboom player, and Chei, former Jin Air Green support, H2k is looking to dominate the bot lane in their own way. Somehow, this bot lane duo could be H2k’s weakness, with their low KDA ratio and having little success in the LCK, they could easily be out played by European bot lane duos and ruin the chance of having another Worlds appearance.
#2 Fnatic
When an organization who once reigned Europe for 3 years promises to come back, you can expect them to, losing their Champion title in 2016 to rookie team, G2 Esports, they dedicated themselves to getting it back. All the Fnatic fans can hope that they will come back. Fnatic gathered up the most experienced of players who has a ton of experience and knowledge on the game, all who has their own set of skills that brought themselves to higher glory, with one of the players being a former coach and he ranked Challenger in Korea in his first week. The team looks to take down the champions and return as Kings.
#1 G2 eSports
Last year, rookie team G2 esports, won both split finals becoming the reigning champions for one whole year and with their players still playing together, you can tell that there won’t be much change amongst the team as they play once more together for another year. After failing to represent Europe properly in Worlds 2016, they again felt the humiliation from the EU fans. This year, the players who dominantly won Summer split will play with each other once again, this is a similar tactic to remain on top as Fnatic did the same thing for 2 and a half years and it played perfectly fine. With young and talented Perkz, bot lane duo Sven and Mithy, player of both splits of 2016, Trick, and rising talent Expect, the team will be defending their spot for another year.
