Saving Kelshara Ch2 Pt1
Chapter 2
Kori slowly turns around and out of the kitchen comes the last person she expected to see. “NANA!” Kori yells and runs over to hug her grandma. “Oh my goodness, you’re here!” Nana lives in another state, so they rarely get to see each other. But each time Nana visits, it is like no time has passed. “Kori! How is my girl doing?” Nana asks as she gives Kori a big hug. “I’m perfect now Nana. You are the best gift I could get on my birthday! How long are you in town?” Kori asks, her words gushing out in her excitement. “I leave tomorrow night, but we have all of tomorrow to hang out together.” “Why such a short visit? You usually stay longer than that,” Kori asks, disappointment dripping off every word. “I know it is short, but we will still enjoy our time together,” Nana tells Kori. Kori notices Nana didn’t answer her question but decides to leave it alone for now. “Now go back to your party, we will catch up tomorrow. I need to get some sleep, the trip here wore me out,” Nana says while trying to stifle a yawn. “Night Nana, I’ll see you in the morning.” Kori walks back to her friends. She looks at Nick and sees he has a look of anger on his face, but the next moment it is gone. Maybe I just imagined it. I don’t see why he would be angry right now. Pushing the thoughts out of her head, Kori went back to her friends and Nick and dances until the party is over. Sam and Courtney, after a quick call to their parent, decide to stay the night. Usually, when the girls have a sleepover, they talk until at least 3 am. But this time, after all the running around and dancing, they all fall asleep instantly.  The next morning, the girls sleepily walk downstairs. It’s 9 am but they are still exhausted. They enter the kitchen to the smell of bacon cooking and see Nana has already made chocolate chip pancakes and eggs. “Good morning girls, please help yourself, the bacon will be done any minute now,” Nana says over her shoulder. The girls sit down and fill their plates with food “Thank you Nana for the food,” says Kori. Nana was the best cook, in Kori’s opinion. “No problem, dear,” Nana says while taking the hot, crispy bacon off of the stove. She puts the bacon on the table with the rest of the food, and the girls dig in. After they are done eating, the three girls do the dishes, making quick work of it.

Saving Kelshara Ch1 Pt4 “Well, I wanted to keep it a surprise. It’s your 16th birthday. Of course, we were going to have a party!” Just then Nick walks up to Korri wearing a suit with a green tie that was an almost perfect match to Kori’s dress. “Happy birthday sweetie!” Nick whispers in her ear. “Were you in on this too?” Kori accusingly asks Nick. “Guilty. I was supposed to see if you had any idea of what was going on, and if you suspected anything, to let your mom know.” Nick admits. “Well thank you, everyone, I am truly surprised. This is the best gift ever!” Just then, music starts playing as Sam puts on a playlist on her phone, which is connected to a Bluetooth speaker. Nick drags Kori to the middle of the living room, where her friends are dancing. Soon Kori loses all sense of time. After a while, Kori’s mom walks up to her.
“There is one last surprise that no one else was in on,” says Kori’s mom. “Turn around.”
This is the end of Chapter 1. I am having a blast writing again. Thank you to those who have read this Chapter. Feel free to comment on what you like and don't like. -rberg.

Saving Kelshara Ch 1 Pt 3
“Woohoo!” Kori exclaimed. “What are we waiting for? Let’s go!” “Well we are waiting for our ride,” said Sam. As soon as she finishes saying this, the three girls hear a honk from the driveway. “Nick is here,” calls Kori’s mom. “I put some money in your purse, have fun.” “Thanks, Mom! We will.” The girls ran out the door to Nick’s truck. “Thanks for the ride, Nick. This wouldn’t have been possible without you,” Kori said, giving Nick a quick kiss before climbing into the passenger seat. After a short drive to the next town over, Nick pulls up to the mall’s main entrance. “I’ll be back in two hours to pick you, girls, up. Text if you will need more time, ok,” Nick tells the girls. The three girls filed out of the truck with giddy expressions on their faces. They walk through the mall stopping at their favorite stores. Sam and Courtney keep trying to get Kori to buy a fancy dress. “Come on Kori, this one looks great on you, you should buy it. It’s even on clearance,” says Sam. “But why do you want me to buy something so nice? School is out so it isn’t like we have a party or dance to go to.” Kori complains. “Let’s just say it is for another surprise,” Courtney explains. She didn’t want to give away anything but needed Kori to buy a dress. This seems like a good compromise. “Oh, well I guess I will get it then,” Kori said. Her friends were surprised at how easily she gave in, but happy they had completed their mission at the same time. After Kori paid for the dress the girls realize that Nick was probably already waiting for them outside, as it had been over 2 hours already. Kori sends him a quick text: Hey sorry we are running late. Where are you parked, we will meet you at your truck. I am right by where I dropped you off, see you soon, comes his reply. The girls hurry to the main entrance and notice Nick’s truck right away. They all climb in, relieved to feel the air conditioning blowing on them, after being outside in the 89-degree weather; even if it was for a short time. As Nick starts driving, Kori notices he wasn’t going towards her house. “Um, where are we going? This isn’t the way home.” “Another surprise!” Courtney says excitedly. Within 5 minutes Nick pulls up to Kori’s favorite nail salon. “First a dress, now I get to have my nails done? What is going on guys?” Kori asks. Her question is met with nothing but knowing smiles from her friends to Nick. “Just enjoy your day, love, don’t worry about anything else,” Nick says to her as he kisses the top of her head. Once again the girls pile out of the truck. They spend the next hour getting pampered with manicures and pedicures. Kori picked emerald green for her nails, Samantha picked ruby red, and Courtney picked sapphire blue for hers. As Courtney gets in Nick’s truck she asks, “Hey, we still have time to kill, can you drop us off at my house? We can then walk over to the next surprise later.” “Yeah, no problem.” The ride to Courtney’s house was short and before Kori could ask much about why everyone was being so secretive, they were there.

Saving Kelshara Ch 1 Pt 2
“Ok, but text me when you get home so I know you are ok,” Nick says with concern in his voice The warm June air slides over Kori’s face as she starts for home. The moon is full and bright tonight, making it easy for Kori to see on her walk home. As she walks, her thoughts turn to Nick. He is so good and caring to me, he is always there for me. I feel like I have known him my whole life, not just the two years we have known each other. He is the perfect boyfriend. At times I feel he doesn’t need to be bothered by a girl like me. Sometimes I joke that he only stays because I am so cute, but I don’t mean it, I know he loves me. It is odd to have found love while still in high school though. Some people wait their whole lives for true love, and here I found it before age 16.She got home right before curfew. Opening the door at 10:59 pm on the dot.
“Cutting it close aren’t you?” comes a voice from the kitchen. Kori’s mom walked into the room, pushing her red hair out of her face. Even at 5’2”, she is a force to be reckoned with. “I made it home on time,” Korri responds defensively “Why didn’t you get a ride with Nick?” “I wanted to walk, it was so nice out,” Kori says “Well, next time I don’t want you walking home by yourself, ok?” “Fine, it’s not like anything bad happens in this town Mom. It’s perfectly safe. But if you want I’ll make sure I come home with Nick. Can I go to bed now, I am a little tired?” Korri asked. “Yes, but I need you to wake up at 8 am.” “Why?” “You will find out in the morning. Now go to sleep love.” After sending Nick a quick text saying she is home, Kori gets ready for bed. It doesn’t take long for her to fall asleep. By the time Kori gets up the next morning, she has 5 minutes to get ready. What’s wrong with me? I am never late! Kori thinks to herself. She loves watching the sunrise, so she is usually up before then. Kori doesn’t have time to dwell on being late, so she quickly gets dressed in a black knee-length skirt and a light blue tank top. She runs downstairs, only to be greeted by her two best friends, who are waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. Samantha is built like an athlete. She has straight, dark brown hair that is always in a ponytail or messy bun. Today she is wearing it in a ponytail. Courtney is taller than Sam and Kori, with wavy blond hair and blue eyes. She isn’t athletic but is skinny. “Happy Birthday!” The two girls and Kori’s mom shout in unison. “Thank you! But what are you guys doing here, I thought you all had plans today so we were going to celebrate tomorrow?” Kori asks her friends. “Well, we had to say something to keep you surprised,” Courtney responds. “Today is full of surprises, first of all, a trip to the mall!” says Samantha.

Saving Kelshara Chapter 1 Part 1
Lights flash to the beat of the music as Kori Roberts walks into The Neon Glow, the local teen club. It is packed tonight, especially on the dance floor where hot bodies are pressed up against each other. She scans the crowd looking for Nick, her boyfriend. It will be impossible to find him in this crowd. Taking out her phone she texts him: Going to get a drink, meet me there.
She heads over to what is referred to as “the bar,” even though no alcohol is served there. Sitting at the last barstool that is available, Kori orders a Coke and waits for Nick to meet her. Suddenly her vision goes black as someone covers her eyes with their hands.
“Hello there beautiful,” comes the silky voice of Nick from behind her. Kori takes Nick’s hands away from her eyes and turns around to face him.
“Hey, have you been waiting long?” Kori asks Nick.
“No, I had just gotten here when I got your text. The traffic getting here was bad. Let’s see if we can grab a table until you finish your Coke, then we can dance. Sound like a plan?’ Nick asks.
“Sure, it will be good to catch up. I feel like we haven’t had a chance to talk for a while.” Though Nick and Kori have seen each other multiple times this week at school, studying and taking their final exams had taken up all of their time. “I am so happy school is over!” Kori said.
“Me too.” They walk over to the tables and found one that fits two people.
“So, are you excited for tomorrow?” asks Nick.
“Are you kidding me? Of course, I am! I will finally be 16! I can take my driving test and not have to walk everywhere.” Kori couldn’t hide the excitement she was feeling even if she tried.
Nick chuckled, “Are you sure you are excited? I couldn’t tell,” he jokes.
“Haha,” Kori said as she finishes the last of her drink. “I only turn 16 once in my life, let me have my fun,” she says with a smirk on her face. “I am a little upset that my mom said no to having a party this year. I mean it is my 16th birthday, if there was ever a year for a party it would be this one.”
Kori and Nick get up from their table and walk to the dance floor. Kori starts singing along to the music while she dances. She loves to sing and does every chance she gets. She loves coming to The Neon Glow. She can easily lose herself in the music. It is like all her worries melt away here. Before she is ready to leave, the last song is played. As the lights came on and people collect their stuff to leave, Nick turns to Kori. “Can I give you a ride home?” Nick asks her.
“I only live two blocks away. It’s safe, I’ll be fine. But thanks for the offer,” Kori answers.
