The 2025 Gender Census is now open!

The 12th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 30th August 2025.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

Amid the horrifying reality, this is good news.

This is a function of the whole nuclear family that Capitalism & Christian Nationalists have been pushing for years. It serves as a means of breaking down our communities and forcing people into specific roles to maintain control. In functional societies a single person can thrive alone because they often fill niches that married or attached people cannot or would rather not. Like working odd hours, in demanding industries, or in highly traveled jobs. In our capitalist society we've either stigmatized or reduced the importance of these jobs. Often underpaying people or staying they're only temporary or implying that you need a "real job" to "settle down". Using social and economic pressure to reinforce the ideals of the "nuclear family" Christian Nationalists. By keeping single income famlies in poverty it props itself up as a "better way". "Just conform", they say, get a Lavender marriage or a Yellow Rose marriage (yellow roses mean friendship).

You shouldn't feel pressured to cohabitate with anyone as an adult if you don't want to. Financial equity and freedom from wage slavery means that any person working 32hrs/wk can afford to comfortably live alone, without needing government assistance. This is the dream, the goal. That one day, minimum wage will mean that again. That you can have one job, and enough free time and extra money to pursue happiness. Whatever (within reason) happiness looks like to you. Whether that's a yard full of dogs, or kids, or friends, or a tiny patio just for you. Honestly, relationships are personal & others shouldn't be pressing their beliefs upon you.

"Single people are on average less healthy, less financially stable, and overall less satisfied with life than partnered and married people are. This must mean that monogamous relationships and marriage are the solution to society's problems"

Huh, it's almost like society, both socially and financially, is set up to specifically benefit people who have monogamous relationships and get married and punish people who don't partner or get married. It's almost like there are financial benefits that exist specifically to incentivize people to get married and have kids and be a nuclear family. It's almost like it was very culturally normal until very very very recently to just not have any deeper platonic relationships after you get married, meaning that single people past a certain age just get left behind and get treated as spinsters or loser bachelors. It's like life just is not designed for single people to be able to easily participate and survive while still being single. Huh, very weird. I'm sure marriage will fix this.

Trump is creating inflation.

No one is getting a rebate check.

Trump will 'golf' in diapers as US conservatives invent GDP data and sell off the country.

The dumb white guy is mailing it in, clearly abusing all who supported him.

I always thought DJ Conway was a he but I see other people refer to them as she so I'll go with "they" until I know for sure) just pop out of nowhere and start writing Wiccan-ish books of questionable research quality? You know we only ever really "learn" how to bathe in our youth as it is taught to us by our parents and from then on most people kinda just bathe the same way right. And like barring actively deciding to do it the only way most people change their bathing habits is if they bathe with a loved one and get convinced to do somethi g different in the bath bc its cleaner/faster/whatever bc of them. I can understand how "modern person thrown into the past gets by pretending to be a healer/doctor" is as surprisingly common of a trope as it is. I mean I'm fluent enough at bullshitting to be pretty sure I could pull it off to impersonate a doctor in any time pre-1800s. If I have no idea what something is or how to treat it, I could just get the opinion of the other whatever-passes-as-medical-professionals around, but if their suggestions sound like bullshit I'm not doing it. And I'll beat the shit out of anyone suggesting bloodletting or mercury. With my healing stick. I've tied little bells on it, that jingle comically with every smack.

The awesome curative powers of my healing stick come from two separate sources: Placebo, and me using it to beat anyone trying to give my patients mercury.
