Annabeth haters claims Percy always puts Annabeth first but she never does the same. It would be nice if these people took the Annabeth hate googles off when reading the books because not only is that not true, it's many times the exact opoosite.

Annabeth:

Stepped in front of Percy to protect him when a monster attacked camp post capture the flag game (TLT)

Was his guide and tutor when he first got to CHB *hate that the show changed this to Grover and Luke (TLT)

Was willing to trade places with Sally so that Percy could save his mother (TLT)

Played catch with a three headed monster dog so Percy and Grover could pass safely leaving herself open to attack by going last (TLT)

Was willing to fight against her own mother, who she idolizes, if it came down to a war where she knew Percy would be on the opposite side (TLT)

Punched Matt Sloan in the face because he bullied Percy (SOM)

Rejected Circe's offer to learn magic and be immortal because she chose to save Percy instead (SOM)

Despite her own trauma about Cyclops she tried to comfort Percy when people were making fun of him for being related to Tyson (SOM)

Fell off a cliff protecting Percy and Thalia and never blamed Percy for it even though all of the torture she went through in TTC was canonically Percys fault because his jealousy and ego made him rush off on his own when the plan was to get back up (TTC)

Defended Percy against her mother, Zeus and several other gods when they wanted to kill him (TTC)

Saved Percys life when Kelly tried to kill him (BOTL)

Offered to stay and fight beside Percy right before they parted ways (BOTL)

Immediately gathered the entire camp and showed up when Percy called even though they had just been fighting (TLO)

Offered to go with Percy into the water to negotiate with the water nymphs because she didn't want him to face them alone (TLO)

Offered to go with Percy to face the Minotaur so he wouldn't have to face it alone (TLO)

Was one of the last people to stay back to back fighting with Percy on the bridge even after he got told to fall back and he didn't (TLO)

Took a poisoned knife for Percy which again was the result of Percys hubris because he didn't fall back when he was told to (TLO)

Risked her own life to save Rachels life at a time when Rachel was Percys friend, not her friend (TLO)

Stayed back to fight a drakon with Percy because he was scared to do it on his own. Never mind that he had the curse of Achille's and Annabeth was in significantly more danger fighting the drakon than Percy was. She stayed by his side because he was scared to do it alone and he asked her to stay with him (TLO)

Was willing to walk away on two separate occasions to give him time to talk to Rachel. Even dragged Grover with her. So many people over look these two moments that clearly show she was willing to get her heart broken let Percy go if that was what he ultimately wanted (TLO)

Spent months looking for Percy when he was missing (TLH, SON)

Spent months finding the time to comfort Sally when Percy was missing (TLH)

Went against her own mother once again to prioritize finding Percy (MoA)

Was clearly nervous about leaving CHB behind but still showed Percy that she was optimistic about his plan for New Rome and showed him that she was happy that he made up this plan for the both of them to be safe and live happily with each other (MoA)

Thinks so highly of Percy that she was putting herself and her own abilities down in the spiders cave to put Percy on a pedestal. (MoA)

Told Percy that it was ok to let her go and was willing to die alone if that meant Percy could pull himself up and save himself (MoA)

Struggled with Percys body weight to pull them out of the river when it seemed like Percy was fading (HoH)

Encourage Percy by offering up potential career ideas for him and chose Marine Biology and Oceonagraphy. Both things that are in Percys wield house but also requires a lot of hard work showing that she's confident that Percy would be smart enough to accomplish either of these as a career (HoH)

Told Bob to take Percy and run while she was planning to die fighting a drakon on her own in the hopes that it would buy Bob enough time to get Percy to safety so he could be healed (HoH)

Was willing to stay in Tartarus to fight and die alongside Percy even though she was presented with the option to go up and save herself (HoH)

Left her safety net of CHB to go to college across the country in New Rome because Percy had an entire vision of them going to school and being safe there (BoO)

Clearly is having problems at school but puts that aside and immediately offers to help Percy on his quest to get his recommendation letters. (Chalice)

Once they find out that Sally is pregnant she immediately tells Percy TWICE that she would understand if he wanted to upheave all of their plans for California and college in order to stay in NYC. This is a girl who is canonically terrified of abandonment but she prioritizes how Percy feels above her own feelings and her own trauma and gives him multiple chances to back out of plans that they had for the next steps of their life.

This isn't even all of it. Just the moments that came to mind without having to reach for the books. How inaccurate of anyone to say Annabeth never puts Percy first. In fact, I would strongly argue there are way more instances in their friendship and relationship where Percy and his problems gets prioritized over Annabeth. It happens in both the writing and the fandom. Even Percabeth fans prioritize Percy. They're willing to point out Annabeth's flaws but sweep Percys under a rug. And they're never willing to admit that sometimes Percys behavior and actions hurts Annabeth even though they're willing to call it out when it goes in the opposite direction.

Percy himself notices this and unfortunately doesn't always do anything about it. In Chalice of the Gods he notices something is wrong with her relating to school and he's about to ask about it when Sally calls them to help with dinner. The sad part that has always stood out to me is the fact that Percy recognized something was wrong with her and yet he never circles back to asking her what was wrong and if she's ok. His problems just become the priority for the rest of the book. And that's kind of a predominant part of their relationship. It's comical to me when people act like Percy prioritizes Annabeth but she doesn't do the same for him because it's actually the exact opposite IMO. As a consequence of Percy being the main character and some very biased writing that he receives he is always prioritized over Annabeth in their friendship and their eventual relationship and it isn't always fair to her.

That he’s in love with her and stuff? Cuz I’m actually not sure she heard it or not. Not like it would have convinced her to stay, but idk it might have caused her to hesitate a bit or something

one pattern i am starting to notice when it comes to anti-percabeth and specifically anti-annabeth stuff is that a lot of the scenes that are getting used and labeled as abusive e.g. the infamous judo flip or the one where annabeths mentions rachel in a conversation to “keep him on his toes” are just like normal things that you might find in a friendship ESPECIALLY when it’s between people who are very close but put in the context of a relationship they might come across as questionable to people

because if you put the judo flip in a context of “oh they’re friends who have been fighting/training with each other for years” that shifts the narrative of how that scene comes across in a whole different level

the scene of annabeth keeping percy on his toes is the same. you put it in a context of friendship as in “oh we have been friends for so long ha ha remember when this happened” and it comes across way differently

and i have already talked about this but percabeth as a hole has spent a lot more time being friends than being in a relationship and that immensely affects how they act around and with each other

also wanna add (and this is not an accusation and more so a phenomenon i have been seeing happening a lot) that if annabeth was a guy i think these scenes wouldn’t even be questioned because just think about it the hole play fighting, smacking each other around, “keeping each other on the toes” and etc. in what friendship do you find these aspects in a lot of different media ? between two guys

actually i’m gonna be a little mean. how can you say that you hate katherine because she’s underdeveloped, her story is conflicting, she’s a bad love interest, etc., and yet your favorite character has 2 lines and no backstory and somehow their fleeting glance at another white boy rivals the tragedy of romeo and juliet. you don’t hate her because she’s underdeveloped. you hate her because she gets in the way of javid and because she isn’t bryan denton.
