My favorite thing to draw is faces/portraits, specifically of my own characters.

Many years ago I was into oil pastels and at the time I was unmedicated for my ADHD so each portrait took forever (if I finished at all 😅) but I loved doing it until I sort of fell out of love with art shortly before getting my ADHD diagnosis.

A little while after that I got a tablet with a pen and quickly fell in love with the portability and mess-free-ness of digital drawing, and I’ve pretty much stuck to that ever since.

But recently I’ve gotten into some physical media again because of my mom getting me addicted to coloring (in coloring books/digital coloring pages) and I’ve also recently become part of a program where I receive discounted products in exchange for reviewing them and a lot of the products so far have been art supplies for me. So recently I’ve tried doing quick portraits (a sketch in color just of a random face from my brain) when I’m testing products, and then because I was inspired, I tried out my old oil pastels again.

I admit, I’m a little rusty, but they’re just sketches that took less than 30min from start to finish, but I thought I’d post them alongside some of my digital faces from recent years and then two of my portraits from before 2019 when I got diagnosed ADHD (I apologize for the quality of the last two photos they’re screen caps of screen caps of my old Instagram account from when I cleaned it out). I decided to watermark everything because you never know if someone is passing off your art as their own, even if it’s not the most fantastic art ever. If I ever post the full digital portraits I’ll find a less annoying way to mark them.

More pics of Mona now that she’s properly dressed. Her new wig should be here tomorrow I think? This one is a cheap loner from another doll of mine that I should take pictures of at some point 😅 who is now wearing Spirit’s original wig from her fullset. I worked hard on that doll’s look so I should really take some pics to post her, but she’s a bit blocked in to one of my cabinets right now…

Anyway… I LOVE the Zhen head sculpt so much that it’s the only sculpt I’ve ever thought of buying a duplicate in with a different resin color. I haven’t done it yet, but I think about it a lot.

Mona’s faceup isn’t my best work, BUT it IS the very first full faceup I’ve ever done on a doll and it’s like 4 years old now. Comparatively, I had no idea what I was doing at the time and the materials/applications were not great, but I love her face so much, I just don’t have the heart to wipe it and try to do it better. I’m TERRIBLE at recreating things I’ve already made and I’m just so worried that she won’t look like herself anymore if I redo it. I know one day I’ll have to, but for now I don’t mind the unrefined quality of her makeup because she just makes me happy.

It’s funny because every doll I own (I think? I own a lot of different kinds of dolls that I’ve painted) has been repainted a minimum of 2 times, but most have definitely been painted like 4 times or more, but Mona always stays the same.

Idk, maybe now that she has the correct body (which is color matched, and it’s not perfect, but I don’t care because ANYTHING is better than the damned dragon body) I might get itchy to repaint her like I get whenever I want to give a doll a new life. I’ll wait until she’s got her new wig, but odds are her face will stay. She does need her nails painted though (so do Phantom and Spirit) but I haven’t decided on a color. I’m just glad to have her in a proper outfit and SHOES!!! A doll is not complete without shoes!!!

I never post pictures of my dolls anywhere, but I’m getting to a place with my collection that I’m really happy with, so I thought I’d post some of my favorite dolls.

In the first picture from left to right are Phantom (Doll Leaves Pearl), Spirit (Doll Leaves Lan), and Mona (Resin Soul/Bobobie Zhen on the new RS Lina/Ran body). Spirit and Mona are my first two dolls that I got back in 2020 and I finally just got Mona a new body with HUMAN FEET! I HATED the dragon body she came on, it was probably my only regret of doll buying and it took way too long to get her a better body, but I LOVE this body and I can’t wait to get her proper clothes to wear!

In the other two pictures is my favorite doll Matthew. He is a Resin Soul Gang who I bought for a specific OC a long time ago, but in the last two years or so has become this blonde darling that I’ve just fallen head over heels for 😍 He got a new wig yesterday (pictured) which looks stunning, though in these pictures it miiiight have slipped back a bit. Either way, he’s gorgeous and I love him.

In the cabinet underneath Matthew is Thistle and Chrysanthemum which I’ll take pictures of at some point. All my dolls are “girls” (whether by gender or attitude) because no matter how much I love a male sculpt and want to have a boy doll character, I’m never happy until every doll in my collection is fully feminized. I find this funny because I’m definitely not a woman and am as attracted to women as I am to men, so I don’t know why it happens, but I’ve tried having male doll characters several times and it just doesn’t work out lol

Also, Resin Soul is my favorite doll company, partly because of their being relatively inexpensive, but more so because ordering from them is a dream and I love their sculpts. Some people say that their engineering is bad, but personally I’ve loved how they pose, all except for Mona’s original body, but now that is remedied and her new body poses beautifully!

As much as Doll Leaves Lan (and Doll Leaves in general) was the very first doll/company I ever fell in love with, I’ve since found that I’m brought more joy by the stronger features of Resin Soul’s sculpts. The Zhen face sculpt (Resin Soul/Bobobie) and the Gang face sculpt are my favorite faces I’ve owned and painted (I paint all my dolls myself). I also love Resin Soul Qian which is the sculpt for my darling Thistle (whose current outfit is not quite fit for pictures at the moment).

I hope to have more pictures of my collection to post at some point, but I’m not really the kind of person who takes pictures of my collections and I don’t really have places to take nice pictures anyway, but I’d like to share some more pictures of my darlings eventually.

Meet my cats: Pem (left) and Tita (right)

Tita (pronounced Thee-tah or Dee-tah, kind of with a Spanish sound) is an old lady now, she’ll be 10 this year in September and Pem turns 1 at the end of June.

These guys don’t get along at all and they have to be kept separate, but we’re hoping that once Pem has calmed down a bit, he’ll learn to stop hassling the old lady and they’ll be able to coexist. I love them both very dearly even though they’re both total handfuls 😅
