Damn that Kevin Martin! he deserved to win!
Unpopular opinion, I know.
And this in no way takes away from the fact that Ika and Demetres are the best BB Canada duo ever (possible best BB duo period?). But do I really think that INDIVIDUALLY they would’ve made it to F2? Nope.
Ika was an amazing strategist this season. She latched onto the strongest comp beast in the house. She was able to manipulate people at the right time to get herself further in the game. I disagree with some who say she was a social player; she’s more of an ANTI-SOCIAL, ANTAGONISTIC player. She pretty much shit on anyone she didn’t like, was rude and abrasive at sometimes for no reason which was great for entertainment but didn’t earn her any allies and actually her personality pushed one of her allies (Dre) away. As a solo player Ika would’ve been evicted early one because of her attitude alone.
Demetres was a competition KING this season. There’s no denying this. But let’s be honest…he had NO gameplay. Ika controlled his game. And since the 2 played as a duo from almost week 2 we will never know if Dem is a strategist because his whole game was overshadowed by Ika. I like Ika, but she killed his chances to win. He could have made it to the end and I think the jury would have chosen him if he wasn’t linked to Ika. But I have nothing but love for this kid.
Karen was just lucky. She was a social player. She worked her angles when she needed to. When Dre dropped the ball and turned on Demika Karen used that opportunity to bond with them and move further in the game. THAT’S HOW A SOCIAL PLAYER WORKS! They build relationships, make others feel comfortable around them and let the bigger threats take each other out.
And finally, Kevin played a well rounded game. His social game with William got him off the block. His competition abilities helped him save himself. And although he failed to evict Ika/Dem on both his HOHs, it didn’t matter because as long as he made it to F2 he had the votes regardless of who sat next to him apparently. Viewers can call this a “bitter jury”, but Kevin had no blood on his hands, he did not play a role in evicting the jurors and everyone liked him. He understood jury management and that’s what it all comes down to.

I will never understand why people lose their shit with these reality shows.
It’s not real life, folks.
These contestants or participants are shown as 1 dimensional “characters” that you fall in love with, but the viewers forget that these real people are multifaceted. They are flawed human beings who are probably better than us on our worse day, but we grasp on to the one characteristic that makes us love or hate them.
And what happens when they fail to live up to our expectations? Or the outcome is less than expected?
What happens when TV reality looks more like real life?
We, the viewers, lose our shit!
Because we get so lost in TV reality, we forget that in the REAL world, sometimes the best person doesn’t end up on top.
Sometimes the prince has some frog tendencies.
Sometimes the villain is really the victim in disguise.
Sometimes the bitchy girl is misunderstood.
Sometimes the loud mouth is hiding a great deal of pain.
And sometimes we build someone or something up so much that we are disappointed when we realize they are….human.
So go ahead, lose your shit. Rant, rave, vent, cheer, cry. I definitely will with a lot of shade on the side. But keep everything in perspective. Support your fave character, but let’s not get so lost in “reality” that we lose ourselves.
