Despite my family having had dogs my entire life I had never seen a dog make that face before I got Marie so I had to look it up.

She always does it when she meets people she likes, and it turns out it’s a face dogs make when they want to seem non-threatening. You’ll often see scared dogs do it, but if they do it when they’re happy it means “I love you so much and I’m really excited right now but I’d never dream of hurting you!”

Now show her a baby and she takes this face to the max. She loves babies so she’ll wag her tail, crawl over to them and jump excitedly around while looking like a scrunched up raisin in the face. People always comment on it because it looks so weird yet I’ve never met anyone who got worried she might hurt their baby because her body language is clearly happy. She’s just saying “I love you teeny tiny puppy human! Please don’t be afraid of me!”

That’s the thing about dogs. You always have to look at both the face and body language to really understand what’s going on in their heads.

Today is pit bull awareness day and while oscar isn't a Pit Bull, his breed, the american staffordshire terrier, and others are often lumped into the category. The negative pit bull reputation couldn't be further from the truth. Oscar is an amazing dog--from alerting me to an impending migraine to munching on dirt, I love everything about this dork. He's an ambassador for all the blocky headed goofballs who aren't allowed to live and love as they were bred to do

Aww Oscar is adorable. Wish he were my pup. We have 6 rescue dogs and 3 are Pitbulls. Love the breed. Love all animals, mainly dogs.
