I agree what OP said about Annabeth. She has always been that terrible and narcissistic.
unpopular opinion (tw opinion !!!!!!!!!!)
warning that this is a rant post that goes off topic a lot.
DNI on this post if you like these characters and don’t want my opinion on them : leo, annabeth, piper
DNI if you’re a diehard fan of those characters or just PJO as well, because im basically dissing it lol.
maybe im just weird or something but if the PJO characters were real i would probably hate all of them. like i have a specific friend group (whom are all also neurodivergent) and we obviously do get bullied a lot (it stopped after oomf chased them around with a plastic knife) but it’s mostly by people who behave very similarly to leo , annabeth or piper and have similar comebacks.
like actually, im very (not) sorry to say that i am a girly person who likes to do girly things and wear pink and frills and bows and things. i get regularly bullied for this (being alt and “childish”). piper did make fun of her own cabin for… being… too… girly. wow such a great role model. i get that this was made in the years where there was a big spike in tomboys and pick mes but like cmon now Rick Riordan. did you really have to make a younger me feel bad about just liking pink and “girly” things? (opinion) this also led me to believe that only girls could like pink things and girly things, because it was largely the girls who were overly feminine she liked to make fun of in her inner monologue.
next to annabeth … satan. wow, she just kinda always annoyed me. im not sure how percy even could stand her. im friends with a slightly rude person who has ADHD. but guess what ?? they don’t regularly insult the people they like! i get that not every neurodivergent person is the same and everyone is different, and that annabeths personality is being smart, but does she have to be rude and snarky in every sentence she makes? truly unbearable to be around, imo. but once again this is just my opinion. im a sensitive person so if you can handle that then good for you.
(side rant, skip if you don’t wanna hear) also, what’s the deal with every character being sarcastic? is there a single just friendly main character? will solace (who i still really don’t count as a main character since he came out of left field) is supposed to be nice, but he sort of comes off as passive aggressive to me. the fandom didn’t help with that, trying to make him some cowboy with a gun and an extreme temper. smh. (second side rant) im aware almost all characters are neurodivergent, but they don’t seem very neurodivergent to me. it gets brought up a few times verbally, but almost never actually shown. i can’t listen to things a lot because they’re too loud and have to wear headphones (occasionally). can’t wear certain materials in clothing, can’t detect jokes well. this is common autism things. my friend with adhd can’t make eye contact, can’t start conversations, etc. also common things. what do we get for either of these in the books? nada ! i also think that rr did no research, seeing as he said that leo became more hyperactive when given caffeine/sugar. no. that isn’t how it works. caffeine is usually put in meds for adhd to make people with adhd calmer. my friend takes this sort of medicine. it makes them sleepy and more subdued then normal.
last but not least, leo. where do i start. he’s very similar to a lot of the boys in my classes. he likes to make jokes that are usually harmful or rude to the target, then give a half-assed apology because someone made them realize they were being a jerk. usually they don’t apologize, though. leo is brought up as “being ADHD” a few times. that’s not grammatically correct, for one. it’s “that person has ADHD”. you can’t BE a disorder (besides autism, but that has actual other words like autistic that are grammatically correct). two, this is only shown in him cracking jokes and basically being comedic relief. i get this is a common stereotype for people with ADHD, but like… come on. he (rr) knows there are more variations of ADHD, right?
(off topic but i want to talk about this) also. octavian. implied schizo or person with NPD/ASPD/etc. as a villain. wth. he (rr) does know that people with these disorders aren’t inherently evil, right? you’re not a villain or bad person for having these disorders. it just definitely makes life harder for you (understatement of the year, but i don’t want this post to be too long).
so, yeah. my opinion on all of these. sorry for this post being so long. if you made it here, congratulations.

On the other hand, Annabeth wouldn't hate you if you bash on Percy. She does it all the time and even let or encourage other people to do it.
Yes, I said it. Stop kissing her ass
Some stans: Percy would hate you for bashing Annabeth Me: You know what Percy also hates? Abuse apologists. People who bash Rachael, Nico, Jason, Tyson, and many others. So, take your own advice.

Annabeth and Percy/Annabeth Content (Critical)
DO NOT INTERACT if you like Annabeth, or if you like Percy/Annabeth.
If some of the things Annabeth says or does to Percy makes you uncomfortable, or if you're just questioning some of it (unsure about following mainstream Percabeth shipping) then this is for you.
This is part thirteen of my masterpost (that had too many links so I had to break it up lol).
Anyways, this section is all criticisms about the Percy/Annabeth ship, and some of Annabeth's behavior in the book series. Beware; this is not Annabeth friendly. I'm constantly editing and adding new links and content so please check out the original post on my blog for the updated version.
Enjoy!
Percy/Annabeth in PJO:
Double standards for Percy/Annabeth with paying respect to the other's immortal parent
Percabeth was only possible because Rachel and Luke took themselves out of the competition
Many of Percabeth’s scenes feel so much like foreshadowing for a realization from Percy that he’s in an abusive relationship (someone else's post but I agree 100%)
Percy is Annabeth’s rebound because her first love turned into an evil overlord and died.
Every time Annabeth is mean to Percy in PJO + Staff of Hermes (not mine, idk if I agree with all of these but it's an interesting list).
Annabeth is Percy's rebound from Rachel; and Percy is Annabeth's rebound from Luke.
Ask/discussion about whether Annabeth really had a crush on Percy and whether she cared about him/his life.
Percy/Annabeth in HoO+:
Trust and Vulnerability in Percy/Annabeth's Relationship + Someone else's thoughts why Percy rarely opens up
Tartarus made Percy and Annabeth into the worst version of themselves
The judo flip + Percy's mortal spot: A Murder Attempt?!
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the flip, and how/if that affected their shipping of Percabeth
Commentary on the Judo Flip by Piper Mcclean
Commentary on how well Percy and Annabeth know each other's backstories by Piper Mcclean
Comparison: Annabeth seeing Percy at his most powerful vs. Nico seeing Percy at his most powerful.
Percy/Annabeth fans claim everything Percy does is about Annabeth - Disproved
A poll I conducted to see what Percabeth fans thought of the "some things [poison] aren't meant to be controlled" scene
Discussions on Percy being scared of Annabeth, fans romantizing that and the effects of Rick's shitty, shitty writing
Commentary: Percy commenting on Annabeth's victim blaming tendencies
General: Percy deserves better (not mine but I agree)
Moment in the KC crossover where Percy admits he fears Annabeth
Percy's unaddressed trauma + Annabeth's tendency to get mad at/make fun of/insult Percy (not mine but I agree)
The judo-flip was done out of anger and as a (unrightful) punishment (not mine but I agree)
Percabeth stans are Annabeth stans and anti-Percabeth ppl are Percy stans: a theory
Analysis: Percy can't say no to Annabeth becayse he fears no one would love him if Annabeth doesn't. (not mine, but I agree).
Percy and Annabeth are incompatible romantically. Most of the time they 'bond' is when they are forced together for quests/wars. Analysis. (not mine but I agree).
Chaoticcerise's comment on the bottom: a disturbing trend of Percy normalizing Annabeth's abuse throughout HoO & PJO. (not mine but I agree)
Annabeth's response to Percy going through Tartarus to keep her alive was downright ungrateful.
Ask answered: what made me dislike Percabeth.
Ask answered: Percy/Annabeth's relationship is just a bit circle of Annabeth watching while Percy does the heavy lifting.
Ask answered: Annabeth's reaction to the Akhlys scene shows that she doesn't truly love him
Percy/Annabeth in CoTG & beyond:
An Analysis of Percy/Annabeth's life together as adults
Criticism of Percy and Annabeth's relationship "Perc@beth is the gold standard and no-one is doing it like them."
Top tier analysis of what Percy/Annabeth's relationship outside of trauma bonding and wartime (and a few other topics like emotional vulnerability and jealously/insecurities). (not mine but I agree with it)
Annabeth's fear of Percy & Percy's fear of hurting Annabeth goes completely unaddressed in HoO, BoO and Cotg.
Annabeth has not changed one bit in how she treats Percy from tlt to cotg: setting him up as bait and kicking him off a cliff.
My response (long analysis with quotes) to a Percy/Annabeth fan dismissing the abuse and red flags in their relationship.
The "House Husband Percy" is a disservice to Percy's characterization, intelligence and provides the right conditions to make Annabeth's controlling/abusive tendencies much worse.
Annabeth (Critical) Content:
In depth analysis of Annabeth's character: entitled, unhealthy manipulative and given far more leniency than any other character in the books. (not mine but I agree 100% and heavily relate).
Fans give Annabeth credit for things she didn't do
Is Annabeth as badass, formidable in battle strategy and leadership as her fans claims she is? Evidence from the books.
Annabeth views Percy as a replacement for Luke (not mine, but I agree)
Annabeth stalks Percy with her invisibility cap while he's changing his clothes (pre-relationship).
Poll: What type of Annabeth Chase fan are you?
Anon ask: Annabeth's pattern of turning Percy's female friends against him (in the sense that they're still friends but they insult him jokingly to appease Annabeth)
Annabeth called Percy the coward when in reality she was the coward for never communicating (not mine but I agree).
Annabeth stans like to distract everyone from Annabeth's embarrassing crush on Luke & her Luke apologism by pointing at Luke and unjustly saying pedo.
A short spiel about general redemption arcs that I think would apply to Annabeth - no actual analysis relating it to PJO tho.
Annabeth stans really be out there saying that she has the most tragic backstory in PJO like no other character exists
Annabeth is incredibly aggressive to anyone who challenges her or doesn't fit into her perfect worldview/plan.
Annabeth stans may like her because they see themselves in her? (the aggression, entitlement, jealously etc.)
Poll: Does Annabeth acknowledge that Percy is smart?
Annabeth's worst crime is how she treated Tyson
Annabeth never matures or grows out of her toxic behavior.
Rick is not good at writing female characters: case - Annabeth. (not mine but they bring up good points)
Double standards: Annabeth is given a lot of leniency (in her treatment of Rachel and Tyson) that no other character gets - despite going through worse.

Of course most of them are Annabeth worshippers. They wouldn't want to be Percy because they know he gets the short end of the stick.
One thing is a fact. The fans of Percabeth are 99% Annabeth and 1% Percy. Because, i'm sorry if you say you don't see any problem with the canon version of the couple and love Percy, but you are wrong.
And let me tell you something....my most liked stories are the ones where the two break up. I got really surprised at that.

I love this so much. They deserve to be a family
Thank you for replying to my last ask I loved it 🥰
I gotta ask do Wanda & Cosmo have collection of photos of baby peri and when Timmy was first turned into a fairy? (( was it as a big deal Timmy turning into a fairy as it was when Peri was born? Oh and did nega/anti fairy Timmy appeared as soon as Timmy turned fairy or did that take some time like with Irep/foop did?;;; also love your artwork and au I’ll definitely draw some fanart for you when I can find the time))
They do have photos! Timmy was the first child to be taken into Fairyworld in over 1,000 years; there was a massive week-long celebration for it!!! It had been the biggest party to sweep up Fairyworld since Peri's Babyshower.
Since Timmy's a converted fairy, he doesn't have an Anti-Fairy (sorry Irep). Maybe for the better, given how chaotic Timmy was when he was still a human.

I honestly think that Percabeth is not a healthy relationship since neither of them feels safe with each other. The presence of fear only destroys trust and intimacy and neither of them are working on it since this is centered around a children's book and everything just works out in the end. I just want to talk about reality for a second here. Trauma bonding is trauma bonding. Love is love. Trauma bonding is not love. Even though they care for each other, relationships need more than love to survive.
A good relationship is based on mutual respect and trust. Percabeth does not have mutual respect. Annabeth looks down on Percy and most of the time, Percy thinks too highly of Annabeth. They don't have trust. Many would say they work well together as a team but that is not trust, that is bias. It is not just knowing what the other is capable of, Trust is about connecting and reaching out. And that is something both of them are not doing.

Taking credit is having someone give you recognition for someone else's work. Percy would not bring down Grover to prop himself up. In fact, it has always been the other way around. Percy is downplaying himself too much but he does take credit. For example, he always thinks the prophecy depends on him but in end it depended on Luke. That was just the big picture.
Remember the fleece quest? Percy went off to save Grover but really Clarisse already got the quest. Percy takes credit for being a great best friend who would save Grover. But seriously, Did Percy really think that just because the quest was for the fleece, Clarisse wouldn't save Grover at all?
I also hate the poison thing. Like for me, it only happened to give Percy trauma. It also made me hate Annabeth so much more. The Nyx thing also frustrates me a little because Rick keeps writing that many immortals are dumb that everyone fell for their trick so easily.
I also like criticising books. You have nothing to worry about that aspects because even English majors in my college would write essays and thesis about children books. Even my friend is working on essays on Steven Universe and Star vs the Forces of Evil. I know they are cartoons but i hope they still count. Also many people back then would write essays about Alice in Wonderland, Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and other children's book.
Percabeth/Annabeth antis need to hold Percy accountable
I have seen the posts about Annabeth taking credit for other people's accomplishments. Which I agree with. However Percy is guilty of the same thing!!!
The Last Olympian
I couldn't keep up a storm like this forever, though. I could feel my powers weakening. With one last effort, I propelled Hyperion across the field, straight to where Grover was waiting. "I will not be toyed with!" Hyperion bellowed. He managed to get to his feet again, but Grover put his reed pipes to his lips and began to play. Leneus joined him. Around the grove, every satyr took up the song—an eerie melody, like a creek flowing over stones. The ground erupted at Hyperion's feet. Gnarled roots wrapped around his legs. "What's this?" he protested. He tried to shake off the roots, but he was still weak. The roots thickened until he looked like he was wearing wooden boots. "Stop this!" he shouted. "Your woodland magic is no match for a Titan!" But the more he struggled, the faster the roots grew. They curled about his body, thickening and hardening into bark. His golden armor melted into the wood, becoming part of a large trunk. The music continued. Hyperion's forces backed up in astonishment as their leader was absorbed. He stretched out his arms and they became branches, from which smaller branches shot out and grew leaves. The tree grew taller and thicker, until only the Titan's face was visible in the middle of the trunk. "You cannot imprison me!" he bellowed. "I am Hyperion! I am—" The bark closed over his face. Grover took his pipes from his mouth. "You are a very nice maple tree."
House of Hades
Annabeth had decided to take the side Hyperion was guarding, on the theory that Hyperion was more likely to sense Percy. After all, Percy was the last one to have killed him in the mortal world. That was fine with Percy. After being in Tartarus for so long, he could barely look at Hyperion’s burning golden armour without getting spots in his eyes.
What makes it even worse is that, earlier in an Annabeth POV chapter, Percy gives Grover credit for defeating Hyperion. Ironically, Annabeth's POV is a fairer assessment of Percy's contribution to the fight than humble Percy himself.
‘Hyperion ,’ Percy said. ‘I hate that guy.’ Annabeth’s shoulder suddenly ached from an old wound. During the Battle of Manhattan, Percy had fought this Titan at the Reservoir – water against fire. It had been the first time Percy had summoned a hurricane – which wasn’t something Annabeth would ever forget. ‘I thought Grover turned this guy into a maple tree.’ ‘Yeah,’ Percy agreed. ‘Maybe the maple tree died, and he wound up back here?’ Annabeth remembered how Hyperion had summoned fiery explosions and how many satyrs and nymphs he’d destroyed before Percy and Grover stopped him.
This also applies to Kronos. Percy NEVER beat Kronos. It doesn't matter that Percy foiled Kronos' plans in the past! The fact is that Rick had to use his antagonist to make the sacrifice to beat Kronos so Percy would live. It wasn't even Percy's idea to give Luke the knife. This part of the pjo fandom is perpetuating the same crimes they accuse Annabeth of committing by saying Percy beat Kronos. Percy had no chance of beating Kronos. The demigods failed to secure Olympus. Luke is literally the only reason why Olympus was not destroyed.
The only titan you could say Percy beat was Iapetus and only because Percy erased his memories.
I am in this strange spot where I don't hate Percy, but I am so over his character and Rick's bad writing. And with the way his fans talk about him, he might as well be the Greek version of Jesus Christ. Hmm, if Rick decided to bring Christianity into his trash series, he would probably declare Percy as the greater son of god for giggles. I'm still hoping his tv series crashes and burns. Percy's character in HOO, especially in the Akylis scene, is so overpowered I can't stand it. And I had to stop reading after that scene with Nyx. As I said, it may be a kid's book but kids deserve better. Kids are not dumb.
And if anyone wants to criticise me for reading a kid's books series, I am not. I am only reading these snippets for fanfiction purposes and to understand characters I enjoy.

I hate how it could have something to do with Percy's self esteem at that time. Even if people were being kind to him, how could he call them a friend because maybe they were just being nice? Just thinking of Percy being isolated just because he fought a minotaur and many people were jealous of him. Percy couldn't be there for anyone. But Luke was there for Percy. He trained him and everything. Luke was impressed by Percy.
Still on the side note, I love how he plays it safe and agreed to take Annabeth with him on the quest. He knows she wouldn't call him a friend because of her actions. If Annabeth wasn't already there to volunteer, he would have taken someone who was hostile to him for prophecy's sake.
No but I think we all moved on too quickly from the "You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend" line in Percy's OG prophecy. Because- like, what do you mean "by one who calls you a friend"??? Not who you call a friend, but who calls you a friend.
Litteraly, the prophecy states that Luke specifically called Percy a friend. They were friends. By Lukes own (indirect prophetic) admission he was Percy as a friend. He wasn't some evil mastermind bidding his time and secretly hating him, Luke liked Percy. They had a connection, a relationship. And it specifically also stemmed from Luke.
It would have been so easy for Ricck to write "by one who you call a friend" but he didn't. It was very specifically a person who considered Percy a friend and it is so tragic. The boy whose fatal flaw is loyalty is betrayed by someone who considered him a friend. And I am going insane over this.
Luke was genuine when he was nice and kind and there for Percy. He saw a scared young boy and he took him under his wing not planning anything. And only if Kronos hadn't been because they would have kept that relationship up.
They were friends and they could have continued to be.

“We all knew that he was obviously quite ill, and it was pretty clear that this was going to be the last role he would play in a movie. And the fact that it was one of the Final Destination movies made it that much more poignant. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, our directors, they made a very shrewd decision to take the last couple of lines that were scripted and say, ‘Tony, just say what you would want to say to the fans. What would you like to impart to them in this moment?' So, everything that makes that scene so emotional is authentic because that was just Tony talking through the camera to the very fans who supported him for so many years. So, it was a very magical moment on set."
Craig Perry, producer for FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES (2025)

I feel for Percy so much. The only reason why I wanted to hear more of him is to see if he has a happy ending but no.....more books that means more fighting. I wish Percy gets a break especially with someone who loves and cherishes him. He deserves it.
I never understood why Grover suddenly became irrelevant after the og series, and it makes me kind of sad. But honestly, I wish more of the og characters would have just faded into obscurity like Grover, rather than being retconned and butchered.

I would have loved Jason with a keen sense of smell or hearing or maybe he just survives so well in the cold. Anything other than being just a compliant son of Jupiter.
Imagine being raised by literal wolves and still being the most boring person in your friend group.
