Today began with the customer coming into the store and asking for a t-shirt print of typography for a child’s birthday party. The top is to read ‘Brookes pamper party'. He said he wanted only type on the t-shirt and as it was a child, it gave me the opportunity to work on and explore different decorative and fun fonts. As I love girly and crazy fonts, this was fun to complete. Not many children’s birthday tasks have come up for me and therefore this was giving me the chance to design and work with fonts that I hadn't yet had the opportunity to use.
Below shows some children’s t-shirts that i looked to for some design ideas.

Below shows some designs I came up with to find out the direction they wanted to head in.

The client decided they wanted to go with the Disney theme for the t-shirt print and therefore used just a Disney font. I attempted to recommend them to add some sort of icon or Minnie-mouse outline however due to their budget they wanted to include only text.
Today I also continued to create the copyright digital designs. I have decided to create several different approaches to the design of the poster and then let Ciaran and Stephen choose their desired design when complete as they both aren't always in the store together.

Wedensday 29th March 2017
Today i began with my daily duties, ensuring all weeding was complete and sorting out orders and ensuring that the prints were bagged with the correct garmets.
I then sat down with Ciarnan who gave me the feedback from the full works client. The feedback was great and they were beyond happy with the design and layout of the planned embroidery project.
For this project, i observed the setting up of the embroidered logo and how the process went forward. I also learnt of the pricing and as the logo had no been used before on embroidery, the logo would cost £16 just to trasfer it to embroidery format. I was informed of how this is the price for all embroidery set-ups before the price of the embroidery itself. I found this very expensive as did other customers and I have seen their facial expressions whenever this price had been given to them while they were in store asking for their logo to be embroidered. However cairns explained to me the process of design formatting and how he had to basically recreate the design and submit it in the format to the embroidery machine. This takes time and effort and therefore the £16 is basically a charge for setup and time.
Due to the client being pleased with the design, we were told to go ahead with embroidery creation. Cairns went through with this and Jackie the other embroidery trained employee, helped him.
Today  I began the designs of the Nacho and popcorn machine sticker designs that a client asked for a few weeks ago. As these were stickers, I needed the design to be small and long. Ciarnan told me to just design the stickers and he would print them to the size the client desired.
I plan to design several options for each machine and then plan to choose my two favorites from these to be digitally created.
Firstly I have researched and designs some Nacho machine stickers. For these stickers, the theme was ‘hot nachos’. The first thing comes to my head when nachos are mentioned is Mexican and flames. In relation to both these ideas, the correct colour theory would be red, orange, yellow (fire, heat and warmth) and also green as this plus the other colours are those that are related to Mexico and it’s culture, clothing and foods.
Below shows some of the research and then the designs that i have completed

Last night Ciaran contacted Brian from The Full Works and asked him to choose from my sketches as to what design he liked most. Ciaran and I  agreed that the best design was the circle design and thankfully, Brian also agreed he liked this one most. Therefore today my first task is to Design a matching Design for the back of The Full Works garments. I then have to go on to create the logo and back design Digitally.  Below shows my back design for the garments.

Monday 27th March
Today I was given the task of rebranding a logo for the company The Full Works. This is a company that offers various construction and building jobs such as; Bathroom and Kitchen Refurbishments, Fitting Kitchens, Painting and decorating, Decking and Fencing and Home Maintainance.
The client, Brian, gave me a brief description of what he wanted. He wants a design that is informative, masculine, has a purpose but can also be easily printed onto garments, stationary and other company essentials.
He wants a rebrand of colours including Gold and Purple.
This was a very basic brief I have been given but I already have some ideas. I am going to complete some research on other construction logos and see what I can come up with.

All of the above logos revolve around a house and although that is a great idea that gets the company’s purpose round easily and quickly, I want to try something a little different and outside the box. Below shows some designs I have drawn up of my own.
Tumblr media
Figure 48. The Full Works Logo Designs. Rebekah Briers. 2017
This logo above is based on the idea of the third researched logo that includes tools. I think showing tools is a very effective and smart way of getting the purpose of the business around to the client or potential client rapidly. This design has been teamed with a mixture of typography. The ‘Full Works’ is in larger and thicker font and the words ‘The’ and ‘Belfast’ are a thinner font. This makes the main part of the company’s name stand out.
Tumblr media
Figure 49. The Full Works Logo Designs. Rebekah Briers. 2017
These designs are both typography based.
The first design uses a thick and large font with larger capital letters to attract the attention of the customer. It is then centered and teamed with a smaller font that reads ‘Belfast’ to tell of the company’s location. This is then decorated by two screw designs and a separated line to give this design a finished off and even look.
The second logo is soley typography based. This logo is a thick and eye catching font matched with a  fancy font. Personally, I don't like this design and find it boring and not at all informative of the company purpose.
Tumblr media
Figure 50. The Full Works Logo Designs. Rebekah Briers. 2017
This final logo design is my favourite. This design is a circle shape that can easily be added to anything. It is informative by the use of screw shapes on either side. The thick font matched with a fancy font

Other than my usual weeding tasks, today I completed some hen party design ideas for some t-shirts. Having these designs completed saves us time and effort when a customer comes in and asks for a hen top as they are likely to go with a design we have used before. These designs can, therefore, be printed and added to the t-shirt quickly and effectively.
Below shows some of the designs that I completed and then the print on a t-shirt.

Today I was also tasked with designing a Baby grow for a couple. They wanted a typography-based design as this is cheapest. I quickly created a design for them as they waited.
This design tested my knowledge of typography. I planned to match a basic font with a fancy girly font. The designs and the final outcome can be found below

Today began with the ordinary task of weeding. Today I weeded a few hen designs and some dance company logos. The dance logos were printed on to sparkly glitter silver flex. This was my first time weeding this flex as it is thicker than the usual flex that we print on. This took up a lot of my time as I had to be careful not to tear the wrong areas off. I struggled with this but Chloe helped to keep me right.
Today Sandra from Mikayla's came into the shop and decided upon the logo she wanted. She wanted the font of the third logo teamed with the plain font on logo one that says ‘kitchen’. She then wanted the circle of flowers also added to the logo.
I began to create their desired logo in vector form as shown below.
My final design for Mikayla’s is shown below:
Tumblr media
Figure 34. Mikayla’s Final logo
For this logo, I went for a basic vintage look as previously discussed. I had all the elements aligned to the centre as this matched the circle flower design. I then had the ‘Mikayla’s’ in a larger font to gather the customer’s attention and then ‘Kitchen’ in smaller and plainer font.
I decided to colour the fonts using the picker tool on illustrator to choose two contrasting colours from the flower vector in which I have used. I felt these colours worked well especially the purple as it was a colour used least in the flower design and therefore stood out more.
I personally really love this design and I am proud of its final outcome. Ciaran overlooked this project but stayed in the background to let me work on my own. He gave me great feedback and said that he felt it looked professional and met all the requirements it needed to.
Today the Scruffy’s client also came into the store to decide upon a logo. He has decided on the first logo as he believes it would suit his business the most. He liked the slick and neat design of the logo and also the use of house colours and clear font. The alignment of the logo also added to his decision as he said he liked how all was centered. This logo is now in the movement for garment embroidery in the trade center of the company.

Today I continued to digitally design the remaining Scruffy’s logos. These designs can be found below.
Tumblr media
Figure 21. Scruffy’s Logo Design three. Rebekah Briers. 2017
For this logo, I went with a fun and basic theme. This design is a lot plainer compared to the other three.I created the shape of a dog bone and added some font to this. I found that this kept the logo informative and basic.
I used a fun typography and teamed it with a thinner version of the main font. This kept the font consistent but the difference in the hierarchy can be easily seen due to size, positioning and also thickness. I kept the main font larger as done with the other designs as this directs the client's eye to the first word we want them to read. I then positioned the Dog grooming to the right as this would be what we wanted to the client to look at lastly.
Looking back on this design I find that I personally do not like it. I feel that it is too plain, the colours are too basic and also the logo is overall boring. If I was to redo this design I would include more colours.
Tumblr media
Figure 22. Scruffy’s Logo Design four. Rebekah Briers. 2017
for this design I went for the outline of a dog face including some iconic shapes that would highlight the shape of the dog and add to, it’s effect on the mind and eye. These shapes make up a nose and a dog tag.
I then teamed this shape with a large, fun font. I added this font as I felt that dogs are fun and therefore the typography used didn't have to be overly serious.
I positioned all elements to the centre ensuring all alignment was perfect as I felt that this would really influence the look of the design and it also made more sense to do this. hierarchy is used with the different sizing of fonts and also the different positions and thickness of the fonts.
I personally like this design however lack of colour brings the look of this design down and it also looks as though something is missing.
Today I was also given a brief of a local cafe that wanted a logo created for their business. Their current logo was just plain text and they wanted a logo revamp. The business is a small, family run company ran by women. Therefore they wanted a cute, pretty and girly logo created that would clearly illustrate their company and tell what their business is about.
Below shows some ideas I have gathered in my quick research time.

Below shows various designs I came up with today. The client will call back into the store tomorrow to decide upon their logo so that I can begin creating it.
For logo one I have gone for a script font to capture the girly theme of the company, I then teamed this with a plain font so that it doesn't take away from the script font. I have made the script font larger as this is the main text and in terms of hierarchy, this is where we want the customer’s clients eyes to direct to first. I then added a flower icon in the corner to the girly theme and stay away from their plain font design that they used to have.
For the second, I have gone for a small basic logo that is similar to the last logo in terms of mixing fonts and a flower design to create the girly feel to it.
Below shows the first and second logo designs.
Tumblr media
Figure 26. Mikayla's Sketches. Rebekah Briers. 2017.
The third logo is a vintage and girly themed logo. I have found that the font used is very popular in weddings, girls birthdays etc at this present time and therefore I felt that it would suit this business purpose well. I teamed this font with a circle to keep the logo easy to add to garments, signage, menus, business cards etc. I have surrounded this circle with flowers to give a girly and feminine look to the logo.
Below shows the third logo design.
Tumblr media
Figure 27. Mikayla's Sketches. Rebekah Briers. 2017.
The fourth logo consists of a cupcake made from shapes and a basic font. Personally, I'm not a fan of this design as it is too basic and the cupcake would give the indication of a bakery rather than a cafe.
The final logo in which I have designed is a knife with Mikayla's kitchen added below and above it. I personally don't like this design either as there is no indication of a feminine theme in it and therefore it doesn't meet the client's desires and requirements.
Below shows the fourth and final logo design.
Tumblr media
Figure 28. Mikayla's Sketches. Rebekah Briers. 2017.
Today I was also tasked with designing and creating a hoodie for a customer there and then.  The customer asked for a design of Karl Pinkerton and his saying of "worms with teeth” on a green hoodie, I spoke to the customer asking about the background of the joke and after her explanation, I asked if she would trust me to show her some sketches of what I had in mind. I wanted to use a cartoon icon of him with the font above it. I drew up the design in which she liked and therefore, created the digital design and some thick but fun font above it. I had to add the font and the outline of the face in black and the background of the face in white and print them on different coloured paper at different times. I then weaved this when it was finished printing and firstly used the hot press to stick down the white face background. I then added the black outline and font to create the final product. I was very pleased with the outcome of my first hoodie design and the customer was pleased too.
I got to quickly take a photo of the final design which was great as i hadn't been able to before this as the store wasnt busy.
Below shows the sketch designs of the hoodie in question.

Again today began with more weeding of various designs. I then spent the remainder of the day digitising some of the logos I drew up yesterday.
Below these can be found. I have to digitally create all of these designs as Ciaran asked me to show the customer a variety of designs to choose from.

Today I was given the brief of Scruffy’s Dog Groomers. Scruffy’s Dog groomers is a local Dog grooming and Pet services business. This company is owned by Stevens friends Jim Spence. Jim is looking a new logo for his business that he has asked Ciaran to design. He then wants this logo to be added to his new work garments. Ciaran has asked Jim if I could design the logo for him and Jim has agreed.
I was given the theme of dogs due to the main purpose of the business and therefore the logo had to be based upon this. I also have to ensure it has ‘Scruffy’s Dog grooming and Pet Services’ included on the logo and it also must incorporate the company colour of bright blue. I will team this alongside grey, white or black (either all of these of one of these colours depending on the design). This is basic colour theory knowledge to me to use a dark shade of black alongside a bright blue.
Below shows some dog themed logos that i researched to get an idea. When researching these logos, i was also looking at the use of typography and the placement of the icon and text.

Today firstly consisted of weeding and printing St. Patrick’s Day designs for clients that came into the store. Although most of the t-shirts were created beforehand, there were some people who came into the store today to ask for some t-shirts to be created. As these had to be created on the day there was no time to really create any vectors, these designs consisted of just text.
Below shows a design from today.
Tumblr media
Figure 10. Galway Girl Hen Party Design. Rebekah Briers. 2017.
Today I designed a few hen tops for various hen parties.
These were quickly sketched and will just consist of a font as it is quick and easy to print. The second design includes a vector of a lady in a martini glass. This vector is already on the company system so, therefore, will not take too long to print.
Below shows these designs.

I was then asked to weed and print some of the tops today for an order due next week as the store wasn't as busy today.
Today a customer came into the store asking for an Elvis jumper created. He had the image that he wanted to print onto the jumper so therefore no designs were needed for this print.

Thursday 16th March 2017
As St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, today consisted of weeding already printed flex from yesterday after I went home and also designing some prints for t-shirts.
Below the designs that I created today can be found.
The designs consist of the majority of the text, usually paired with a basic icon that relates to Ireland or St. Patrick’s Day.
For the first design, I have teamed a basic font with a script font. The font works in a hierarchy as the ‘Kiss me I’m’ is a smaller and plainer font as I don't want the attention to be on this area first even if it is the first line of the sentence. It is followed by a lips icon with a shamrock in the centre then a larger script font reading ‘Irish’.
The second design is similar, I drew this up for a customer who knew what they wanted. The main text is plain and small then the shamrock filled with a lip icon is the centre and most larger object on the t-shirt. Personally, I do not like this design as the hierarchy doesn't work at all however when I told the customer that I thought the font would be better larger and the vector smaller, they said they wanted it to look like this sketch.
Tumblr media
Figure 6. St. Patrick’s Day Design sketch one. Rebekah Briers. 2017
The below design was created for a customer who’s child was born on St. Patrick’s Day and she wanted something to symbolise her complicated pregnancy and the miracle birth of her son. I, therefore, came up with this design. I felt that an Irish font was best suited due to the t-shirt theme. I then felt a shamrock told added to the Irish theme but then added small footprints in the shamrock to add the point of the baby.a
Tumblr media
Figure 7. St. Patrick’s Day Design sketch two. Rebekah Briers. 2017
Below’s design was created for a client who was heading to the states for a girly weekend trip. She wanted something printed quickly and on the spot so I drew out basic Irish font for her which was printed in minutes.
Tumblr media
Figure 8. St. Patrick’s Day Design sketch three. Rebekah Briers. 2017
This design was another quick design that was created for a customer who came into the shop and wanted something done there and then. I simply teamed a thick font with a leprechaun vector from the company files as it didn't need to be created just printed. I added the Drunk in Irish tagline as the girl liked Beyonce. This, therefore, is a play on the words of the song Drunk in Love.
